Ugly Betty

Great show. Liked the cast and writing. Hope it can hold up. Thoughts?

gxshiem 09-28-06 09:54 PM

I also liked it. Lots of classic scenes. I also hope it can hold up. Looking forward to next week's expisode.

boredsilly 09-28-06 09:57 PM

I wanted to watch this, but they are in a terrible timeslot for my purposes.

Heat 09-28-06 10:21 PM

Arrgh, I thought it started at 8pm CDT. It was 7pm. Oh well, hopefully they re-air the premier at some point.

I used to watch portions of "Betty la Fea", it really was a great show, glad to see it make the jump to English.

You all know that this Ugly Betty is based on a Spanish soap Opera called "Betty de la Fea" right? :D

Formerly known as missflores 09-28-06 11:49 PM

I am looking forward to next week's episode!

J-Dubya 09-29-06 12:12 AM

cancellation mid-october me thinks

Patman 09-29-06 12:30 AM

It was okay, a little too formulaic, but it's hard to resist that big goofy smile loaded with a mouthful of braces. There are lot more ugly betties than pretty veronica's out there who'll tune in, so I suspect it'll stick around this season.

JamesBrian 09-29-06 01:23 AM

Pilot will be repeated Friday night at 7PM on the ABC Family Channel.
I'll be interested in seeing the ratings and expect it to take some of the
Survivor audience.

Man, I wish you didn't point that out. I'm going to have to watch it out of morbid curiousity now. I have seen the glowing mainstream reviews and the scathing reviews from sources that more accurately reflect my taste in TV. For whatever reason, I have this vision that the people who will love this show are the same people who kept Good Morning Miami or Veronica's Closet going as long as they did.

mphtrilogy 09-29-06 07:59 AM

I liked it a lot and America is terrific. it reminded me of Early Desperate Housewives before it went off the rails. Has the same dramedy thing going on.

PixyJunket 09-29-06 08:39 AM

Ugly according to Hollywood:

Pretty Girl + Glasses = OH MY GOD THE HORROR!

-rolleyes-

Patman 09-29-06 08:50 AM

You have to admit, Betty in the red pleather in that layout shoot was pretty horrific!

superdeluxe 09-29-06 09:36 AM

Was pretty good for a pilot. its devil wears prada on the tv.

Class. And the dual tuner likes its Survivor, Office, and Earl.

MrX 09-29-06 11:08 AM

I liked it. America Ferrera was great

Looks like ABC may have another hit on their hands

The premiere of the critically hailed "Ugly Betty" scored a 10.7/17 for ABC at 8 p.m. "Survivor: Cook Islands," 9.6/15, was second in households for CBS but won the hour in viewers and adults 18-49. "My Name Is Earl," 5.2/8, and "The Office," 4.8/7, were a distant third for NBC. FOX came in fourth with two episodes of "'Til Death." The sixth-season premiere of "Smallville" delivered a 2.9/5 for The CW.

Same here. I am not home at that time so I tivo My Name is Earl and The Office and Smallville.
Saw part of it at the gym but that had no sound.
Sad that more people are watching Suvivor than NBC.

MrE 09-29-06 01:12 PM

Not bad. I hope they keep the edginess and lose the sappy tendencies ... Unfortunately most shows go the other way.

guywall 09-29-06 01:52 PM

Liked it. Felt like I was watching a movie. I just wonder how long they can keep the show going...

The ABC Family channel will be showing it tonight at 7.

Red Dog 09-29-06 10:01 PM

Not bad, but given the reviews of the pilot, I was expecting the greatest thing since Aaron Sorkin slicing bread.

LorenzoL 09-29-06 10:53 PM

I didn't know what to expect based on all of the "rave" reviews by critics beforehand. I have never watched the original Colombian telenovela "Betty La Fea" but I have seen episodes of the Mexican version called "La Fea Mas Bella".

All I have to say is that I liked the pilot a lot and I set the season pass for it. America Ferrara is great as Betty and Vanessa Williams is wonderful as the "bitch". Now, just hoping that Salma will be able to make more appearances in this show.

Original Desmond 09-29-06 11:24 PM

Not a bad show at all, will give it a go

Jimmy James 09-29-06 11:27 PM

I think most of the glowing reviews were from print media. Wonder why they loved it.

I watched the ABC Family replay to satisfy my morbid curiosity. I'm glad I did. I now know it is most definitely not a show for me.

dpz301 09-30-06 08:51 PM

i thought it was good. if i remember, i will probably try to keep watching, although it does overlap with the office.

riley_dude 09-30-06 11:42 PM

I saw part of this on Soap channel. Not bad.

Ayre 10-01-06 06:19 AM

I would watch a show about Betty and her family, but the fashion stuff just pushes me away. Anyway, it conflicts with Smallville and the Office.

theedge 10-01-06 07:39 AM

Not too bad...we watched last night...recorded Smallville too! :)

Next weeks episode looks kinda cliche though...
Spoiler:
the lost big book?

darkside 10-02-06 06:02 AM

Watched this with my wife since she recorded it and though its really not my cup of tea (couldn't care less about the fashion and magazine world) it really wasn't a bad show at all. However, considering the competition its facing I doubt it will make it through the season.

While first week ratings don't tell the whole story, things look pretty promising for this show based on that measure. I do believe it either won the time slot or finished a close second to Survivor.

Snowmaker 10-02-06 07:22 PM

Finally watched this today. It was decent, but not as funny as I was led to believe.

andicus 10-03-06 12:37 AM

I thought it was pretty good, and will watch next week. I thought America did a great job, and it was nice to see Ashley Jensen in it (Maggie, from Extras).

Guess I shouldn't have misunderestimated it. My wife definitely liked it and will probably be watching it all season. I'll check out the second episode at least. I won't argue its the most original show on TV, but it was entertaining and better than most of the new shows I have seen so far.

I guess, next time you will estimate it.

Rogue588 10-04-06 01:04 AM

Saw this last night. Thought it was pretty good. I liked America, but I thought there could've been a wee bit more Salma and Gina..

Together.

 :eyebrow:

garmonbozia 10-05-06 08:42 PM

I just finally watched this last night. I was really hoping I would hate it so I didn't have yet another show to keep track of, but I actually liked it. I really hate the time slot as I already watch Survivor, Smallville, and The Office. I wish they had kept it on Friday nights as originally planned.
