Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - 9/25/06
"The Cold Open"
Spoiler:
Cast: Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, Bradley Whitford, Steven Weber, D. L. Hughley, Nathan Corddry, Timothy Busfield, Sarah Paulson. Producer(s): Aaron Sorkin. Original Airdate: September 25, 2006. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip |
Hey now, you're a veteran of starting these threads! No date in the title?? -ohbfrank-
;) |
I loved this episode
Spoiler:
We just need more of "Jeanie with the light brown hair" to appear more often along with the Asian cutie, instead of Sarah Paulson and this show will be perfect. |

So how long before NBC drops "from the sunset strip" from the title? It's too long and cumbersome and everyone already calls it Studio 60. I just have a feeling they will.
|
I want them to call it "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, California"
|
Are they going to show the formerly-removed Christian opening in this episode (since Peet's character told them to open with it)? I actually want to see it.
|
I'm not sure anything they could show would live up to the internal "hype".
|
Crazy Christians is mentioned but never shown...because they couldn't live up to the 'hype' for sure. A great episode and actually builds on the promise of the pilot. What we do see of the 'show' is very good and I really like Amanda Peet on this show. Her character is funny, charming and ballsy.
Spoiler:
Great ep. MATT |

The brunette chick (who supposedly was banging the Matthew Perry character) is hot.
|
The musical number was great.
As for the show, I'm feeling it a little more than the pilot. |
this show just reaffirms that i will watch anything with aaron sorkin's name on it. that and i guess we have the new casey/dana.

Hard to believe she was introducing "Redneck Backyards" on Blue Collar TV just a couple of years ago. |
I was sitting at work today, and I realized that I was anxiously anticipating tonight's episode. It's been a while, and it feels good.

Decided to give this show a try tonight. Its was pretty good. |
Great episode.
While they didn't show the Crazy Christians like I had hoped, the intro was just as good. About next week: Spoiler:
|
I think "on the Sunset Strip" is already being faded out. The 'on now' thing NBC does just said Studio 60
good 2nd show though. Was a bit dissapointed they skipped from just figuring out the opening to having the complete show written. But i'm sure that kind of stuff will be covered more in later episodes. |
Some of part of me thinks this show would work better as a half hour show.
The opening act (at the end of the episode) was good, but I'm not sure if it was worth sitting for 55 minutes for it. The character moments are okay, but nothing is quite growing on me yet. |

Ever heard of Sports Night?
|
Damn you, Sorkin! I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all night :brickwl2:
"I'm on hold with Clay Aiken's people" |
I liked it.
The press conference, Jordan's rant about the affliates, and the p[eming musical were all great. |
decent. nothing special.
|
They could definitely pull off a version of this show in a half hour, but it would not be the sort of spectacle that this show will hopefully turn into. You wouldn't have time for real guest hosts and musical guests and their stuff. You wouldn't have time for Sorkin to write one killer SNL-style sketch each episode and pretty much show it to us. You'd have Sports Night if you tried to cram it all into a half hour.
|
Maybe I'm just saying I didn't like the pacing for the 2nd episode.
|
I'm glad we were able to see a little more of the cast tonight.
|
I'm not a fan of Harriet, just don't think she is a good actress so far. Otherwise, decent episode.
|
So, Danny and Matt were going to make a movie about Nikola Tesla? Two people with backgronds in comedy? You reckon it would have been Tesla's zany adventures with electricity? Think they dodged a bullet there. And SNL exists in this universe? That's kind of odd since it essentially is SNL. Wonder if MAD TV exists too.
|
I don't want to draw to many connections between this and anything else. But the whole Peet vs the Network had almost the same exact vibe as Isaac/Sam vs JJ/Networks.
Great episode. After getting everyone introduced in the 1st episode, I'm glad they could delve more into their backgrounds. I'm really liking DL's. |

I liked it and am sticking to the show for now.
I like most of the characters, a few are a little over the top and cliche' I do not care for the Harriet character, B-O-R-I-N-G Spoiler:
I love Amanda Peet though. |
You know, I think I could actually like the Hariet character if she was played by another actress. A-n-y other actress. Other than that I'm on board with this show as long as NBC keeps it on. Which I hate to say, my guess is it will be more in the ballpark of SportsNight's time on the air as opposed to the great run West Wing was given.

Good episode. This is definitely staying on my watch list. Harriet/Paulson is definitely the weak point of the show. Not a very good actress. |
Spoiler:
Good episode, though I wasn't as impressed with the musical number as some- it wasn't very funny. Amusing, but not funny. What was up with the group prayer before the show? |
I'm impressed with Matthew Perry in his role. Maybe there will be no "Friends" curse after all. Bradford Whitley also does a great job~ There is a touch of restraint that makes it feel real when they could have gone the overacting route.
|
I'm still waiting for the Ratings Post.
But I love this show. Never watched a Sorkin show before, mind you. I don't mind Harriet at all, she seems fine to me. And I don't hear a lisp, either. Spoiler:
