Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Chew 09-25-06 08:56 AM

Hey now, you're a veteran of starting these threads! No date in the title?? -ohbfrank-

;)

LorenzoL 09-25-06 09:06 AM

I loved this episode
Spoiler:
especially the press conference.

We just need more of "Jeanie with the light brown hair" to appear more often along with the Asian cutie, instead of Sarah Paulson and this show will be perfect.

Michael Corvin 09-25-06 10:22 AM

So how long before NBC drops "from the sunset strip" from the title? It's too long and cumbersome and everyone already calls it Studio 60. I just have a feeling they will.

Groucho 09-25-06 10:40 AM

I want them to call it "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, California"

lordwow 09-25-06 10:53 AM

Are they going to show the formerly-removed Christian opening in this episode (since Peet's character told them to open with it)? I actually want to see it.

Chew 09-25-06 10:54 AM

I'm not sure anything they could show would live up to the internal "hype".

mdc3000 09-25-06 12:07 PM

Crazy Christians is mentioned but never shown...because they couldn't live up to the 'hype' for sure. A great episode and actually builds on the promise of the pilot. What we do see of the 'show' is very good and I really like Amanda Peet on this show. Her character is funny, charming and ballsy.

Spoiler:
I loved the writers room scene. Perry was great in it and all the suggestions being about the president and the most obvious lame choices was great...shows us what kind of show Ricky & Ron were producing.

Also liked the references to Lorne Michaels and SNL. Nice!

Great ep.

As soon as 30Rock gets canned......?

That would be my guess as well. There is no way they could have 30 Rock and Studio 60 on the schedule at the same time. The longer Studio 60 title distinguishes them at least a little better.

Great ep.
MATT

Wow. New spoiler tags. Sweet.

Red Dog 09-25-06 09:53 PM

The brunette chick (who supposedly was banging the Matthew Perry character) is hot.

Red Dog 09-25-06 09:56 PM

The musical number was great.

As for the show, I'm feeling it a little more than the pilot.

kevin75 09-25-06 10:00 PM

this show just reaffirms that i will watch anything with aaron sorkin's name on it. that and i guess we have the new casey/dana.

Ayda Field.

Hard to believe she was introducing "Redneck Backyards" on Blue Collar TV just a couple of years ago.

das Monkey 09-25-06 10:09 PM

I was sitting at work today, and I realized that I was anxiously anticipating tonight's episode. It's been a while, and it feels good.

They'd have to change it from "on the Sunset Strip" first.

Decided to give this show a try tonight. Its was pretty good.

lordwow 09-25-06 10:15 PM

Great episode.

While they didn't show the Crazy Christians like I had hoped, the intro was just as good.

About next week:
Spoiler:
Anyone else think the DUI is "too soon"?

Brian Gentz 09-25-06 10:16 PM

I think "on the Sunset Strip" is already being faded out. The 'on now' thing NBC does just said Studio 60

good 2nd show though. Was a bit dissapointed they skipped from just figuring out the opening to having the complete show written. But i'm sure that kind of stuff will be covered more in later episodes.

Patman 09-25-06 10:20 PM

Some of part of me thinks this show would work better as a half hour show.

The opening act (at the end of the episode) was good, but I'm not sure if it was worth sitting for 55 minutes for it.

The character moments are okay, but nothing is quite growing on me yet.

There is no way they could fit everything in to a 30 minute show. This is a drama/comedy with a ton of characters, any shorter than it is right now and they would not be able to develop a single storyline.

Patman 09-25-06 10:30 PM

Ever heard of Sports Night?

MadMark 09-25-06 10:36 PM

Damn you, Sorkin! I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all night :brickwl2:

"I'm on hold with Clay Aiken's people"

MrX 09-25-06 10:51 PM

I liked it.

The press conference, Jordan's rant about the affliates, and the p[eming musical were all great.

vegasbaby 09-25-06 10:53 PM

decent. nothing special.

Jimmy James 09-25-06 11:18 PM

They could definitely pull off a version of this show in a half hour, but it would not be the sort of spectacle that this show will hopefully turn into. You wouldn't have time for real guest hosts and musical guests and their stuff. You wouldn't have time for Sorkin to write one killer SNL-style sketch each episode and pretty much show it to us. You'd have Sports Night if you tried to cram it all into a half hour.

Patman 09-25-06 11:27 PM

Maybe I'm just saying I didn't like the pacing for the 2nd episode.

B.A. 09-25-06 11:56 PM

I'm glad we were able to see a little more of the cast tonight.

Chaza 09-26-06 12:12 AM

I'm not a fan of Harriet, just don't think she is a good actress so far. Otherwise, decent episode.

Son_Of_Zod 09-26-06 12:18 AM

So, Danny and Matt were going to make a movie about Nikola Tesla? Two people with backgronds in comedy? You reckon it would have been Tesla's zany adventures with electricity? Think they dodged a bullet there. And SNL exists in this universe? That's kind of odd since it essentially is SNL. Wonder if MAD TV exists too.

Daniel-A 09-26-06 01:21 AM

I don't want to draw to many connections between this and anything else. But the whole Peet vs the Network had almost the same exact vibe as Isaac/Sam vs JJ/Networks.

Great episode. After getting everyone introduced in the 1st episode, I'm glad they could delve more into their backgrounds. I'm really liking DL's.

I loved Sports Night and all but I just hope this show doesn't get all special cause of the week like that show did.

CSC was always third in the ratings behind ESPN and Fox Sports Network. I guess CNNSI was fourth.

Mercury&Solace 09-26-06 01:47 AM

I liked it and am sticking to the show for now.

I like most of the characters, a few are a little over the top and cliche'
I do not care for the Harriet character, B-O-R-I-N-G

Spoiler:
next weeks DUI thing looks too tiring and too soon, I hope the show doesn't head in this direction too soon.

I love Amanda Peet though.

JsphOfArimethia 09-26-06 06:16 AM

You know, I think I could actually like the Hariet character if she was played by another actress. A-n-y other actress. Other than that I'm on board with this show as long as NBC keeps it on. Which I hate to say, my guess is it will be more in the ballpark of SportsNight's time on the air as opposed to the great run West Wing was given.

I liked that as well. "we will welcome them back at 120% of their old rate."

Good episode. This is definitely staying on my watch list. Harriet/Paulson is definitely the weak point of the show. Not a very good actress.

Tracer Bullet 09-26-06 08:19 AM

Spoiler:
I can't believe people still fall for the previews. I can't think of one show in the past 10 years where the preview for the episode in any way resembled the actual episode.

Good episode, though I wasn't as impressed with the musical number as some- it wasn't very funny. Amusing, but not funny.

What was up with the group prayer before the show?

magiccmom 09-26-06 08:30 AM

I'm impressed with Matthew Perry in his role. Maybe there will be no "Friends" curse after all. Bradford Whitley also does a great job~ There is a touch of restraint that makes it feel real when they could have gone the overacting route.

cornflakeguy 09-26-06 08:38 AM

I'm still waiting for the Ratings Post.

But I love this show. Never watched a Sorkin show before, mind you.

I don't mind Harriet at all, she seems fine to me. And I don't hear a lisp, either.

Spoiler:
I think the DUI thing was something from her past that was drug up, not something that happened after her hiring at the network. Might be wrong, tho.
