Yeah - I'll grant you that the Springs is a big military target.

We don't know that Atlanta is gone.

The mother may have been in Atlanta, but she seems like the kind of person who goes where the wind takes her - so she may have left Atlanta the prior night and landed in Denver and decided to stay in the "City" overnight.

People around here must really like Atlanta to resort to these twists of logic.

No matter what city got "tha bomb" there is no way you are seeing any kind of mountains from Kansas. And if it was Denver you aren't going to see a mushroom cloud from Kansas either. Denver is 180 miles from the Kansas border. Details like that are unexcusable. All the writers would have had to do is look at a map.

But you did hear "explosion noises" before the phone went dead.

When he first came onscreen, I thought about something else: the scene when Jake first got to town, and he stopped at the town store, the store clerk lady was telling him about some mysterious guy who'd just moved to town and bought someone else's place and "he paid ALL IN CASH, can you believe it?", etc. When I saw him, I figured that was the mysterious newcomer to town. Kind of made me laugh, because don't all small town mysteries HAVE to have some "mysterious newcomer"?

Yeah, but he actually has two secret: where he's been for five years (especially given his mom's comment that he "would have come home if you could" for his grandpa's death), and why he needs the money (his comment to his mom about "no one can ever know"). My guesses: first mystery was, he was either in prison or some super-secret-military OPs (please, please, NOT that cliche), and second mystery: he either has a kid somewhere or he's sick. Either way, I imagine the results of the "mysteries" will be a disappointment.

Yeah, I kept thinking of "The Day After", too. I knew something bogey-man was coming after the stranger said something about "you don't want the wrong people to know Jericho is still here" (to the Sheriff, in reference to painting the police cars), and sure enough, it's the Sheriff who discovers those "bogey-men". I'm sure they'll be the bad guys shortly, as the "terrorists" are too abstract and far away to "fight if we have to", as the Mayor said.

Still liked the show, though. Wonder how far the blond chick will get towards Wichita, before she decides to turn back?

I just can't wait for the Jake Plummer cameo.

Oh, and I was mildly interested until the bus-emergency-procedure thing... it is quickly reaching the 'delete from season pass' level.

The whole "I've been mysteriously absent for five years" deal reminded me of Grosse Pointe Blank. I was waiting for him to go home, find out his house was turned into a 7-11, and then have it blow up. In retrospect I might have to watch this next week as it really has provided me with much entertainment albeit not the kind the creators were hoping for.

Seem like everyone is in unison:
  • The premise for the show has much promise.
  • The premier didn't really show much of the promise.
  • No one knows where the show will go, or how they can maintain seasons of this.

I'm with ya'll. I tuned in because I thought it sounded very intriguing. Watching the premier I felt like they wasted it. With a show about nuclear attacks they should have gone straight into the action - a la Lost; not some very minor character development before getting to the action. Granted, the action wasn't really enticing, so they should have made it better then made it more of the focus. At least for this first episode.

I think he'll do well, but with the way Deadwood ended, I'm going to keep looking at him like Hearst for a while. Talk about no closure.

The premise looks interesting but.... How far can they be from any other town. They still have cars with gasoline and could drive to nearby towns to see if there were other survivors, or get information, etc. Wouldn't someone in the town have a non-electric powered computer that could be linked to the the internet via DSL or some other satilite service?

How much can we assume from the phonecall? I didnt pay too much attention to that part but I don't recall her mention a nuclear bomb or a mushroom cloud. You hear her talking and then then something happens and you hear her scream and a crash or loud noise. Doesn't really mean Atlanta was nuked. It could have just been an unrelated traffic accident .

The father said come look at this cloud, or something like that.

Need to catch the repeat of this Saturday night, as I'm now sort of interested.

Having grown up in Kansas, it was actually a pretty major target for nuclear strike during the Cold War, up with NORAD and Washington DC. Wichita is the "Air Capital" with lots of major aircraft manufacturers and defense contractors like Boeing and a major Air Force Base. (Since the end of the Cold War the air craft industry there has been slowly dying away, though.)

As for western Kansas, it does tend to be pretty desolate with a lot counties only having a couple of towns. Even if you've lost all electricity, it's not inconceivable that someone could bicycle to somewhere like Garden City or Dodge City.

Wichita is the big red dot in the south-central region. Garden City and Dodge City are the yellow dots in the soutwest area. The red areas in the northeast are Lawrence (home of KU), Topeka, and Kansas City, KS.

And you ain't seeing any fucking mountains anywhere.

I don't know, I'm willing to give them that one. The Enola Gay pilots said they could see the Hiroshima mushroom cloud until they were 400 miles away. Of course, they were airborne and over water. Presumably, modern nukes would make a much bigger blast. Given the flatness of Western KS and the elevation of Denver, it seems theoretically possible.

Yeah but on the show the showed the mountians with a red glowing mushroom cloud towering over them. If the Enola Gay pilots saw the could from 400 miles away it's because the cloud had had time to get into the upper atmosphere. Kinda like a volcano. Not just after the blast. Anyway it's just a minor knitpick.

Finally caught up with this last night. Not nearly as edgy as it should be. Plus what's with all the schmaltzy pop songs? Give me this show with a little more edge and a regular score instead of the pop song crap, and I might like it. But as of right now I'm only checking out one more to solidify my opinion.

Finally watched this last night. I liked it enough to continue watching it next week. Next week's previews look promising. I will give it a few shows and decide whether or not I will continue with the show or not. For me, it definitely has promise.

Just watched this. Like everyone else, I think it has promise but the pilot fell flat.

And can we please retire the whole "Oh no, I must perform a tracheotomy with nothing more than a pocket knife and a straw" schtick? It's so cliche.

Couldn't Jerico be on the border of Kansas so most of what they were looking out at was Colorado.
