I loved it . I've been listening to is cd's for a few years now and still think he's as funny as ever. Huge fan of him... but not of his fans (obsessing and constantly quoting  ).

DRG 09-05-06 09:11 AM

The Salon article nails my opinion of him. He's safe comedy that's wrapped up in profanity, slang, etc. to make it seem edgy. Instead of saying something old school like "And what is the deal with drive-thru windows messing up your order?" it's something like "Bro, the drive-thru windows **** up my order every time. Doesn't that totally suck?"

Which isn't to say I find him completely unfunny, but he's just okay IMO. I probably laugh more in one minute of a Jim Norton routine than I do in Dane Cook's entire act.

I'm a 20 something and I don't find him funny. Just saying. He's just a little too vanilla for me, but good for him finding success.

I have no doubt in my mind that many find him funny, you don't sell out an 18,000 seat anything if people don't want what you're selling, but I also think his pop status is rising so there will be plenty of drones that will be their to support him until it's not cool.

No, not funny at all

Well, he did steal material off Louis CK.

Anyway, I think he's very popular because of myspace and he's good looking. Every time they cut to the audience it was a girl giggling over him. I'm in my twenties and don't find him funny. I rather listen to the comedians that were on HBO's One Night Stand last year.

Charlie Goose 09-05-06 10:36 AM

I think he's very funny, even though you couldn't tell from the dreadful Tourgasm.

whitetigeress 09-05-06 10:51 AM

No, he is not funny. Give me Keith Malley any day.

Not sure why haters are emerging.

Because he's exploding in popularity.

I thought Cook was very funny when I first saw him some 7-8 years ago, and around the circuit, he was among the top under-the-radar comedians. In recent years, he's been reusing a lot of material, and his new stuff isn't really that great, so I'm not that high on him now, but I certainly don't have anything against the guy, and I can see why he has so many fans. His marketing strategy has been incredibly effective, and he is passionate about what he does and embraces fandom, so more power to him.

Yes. I enjoy his acts, and liked him on SNL.

Billy Ray Cyrus drew crowds that big as well...for a while.

Hadn't heard any of his material before watching last night's special. I came away unimpressed.

Yeah, mmconhea is apparantly a believer in Worthington's Law.

Caught him for the first time on the Insomniac Tour special on Comedy Central - though he was pretty funny then- from what I've seen since, I'm beginning to think he just had a good set that night.

Pretty much everything I've heard from him I've enjoyed. I bought his CD based on the "Every guy wants to be involved in a heist" bit, and I really enjoyed the bits about the nothing fight, watching someone be hit by a car, and several others.

He also seems like a genuinely nice guy, which goes a long way with me.

grem458 09-05-06 03:49 PM

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!

iggystar 09-05-06 05:18 PM

My friend, who just saw him on Leno last night hadn't really heard anything from him. She said the way he tells a story reminds her of me and the way I recall events. So I figure that's why I like him so much.

But, I'm no comic...

DeanoBKN 09-05-06 06:12 PM

I don't like his material, but the only reason his hatred is popping up is because he is growing in popularity.

I'm more of a George Carlin type of guy ;)

Zombie67 09-05-06 06:15 PM

I think he's one of the least funny comics I've ever seen!

I mean, I've been fair and gave him a few chances. That so called comedy special on HBO last evening was so boring and forced.
I didn't smile or smirk once.
As far as I'm concerned it was a complete waste of an hour and forty-five minutes of my life that I won't get back.

He's just simply not funny at all.

You mean because people who aren't on his friends list on MySpace finally know who the hell the guy is?

And yep, I'm a Carlin guy, too, and I really enjoy Eddie Izzard as well.

GradVT06 09-05-06 07:51 PM

no.

dick_grayson 09-05-06 08:02 PM

nope. it's that whole running around doing crazy arm motions thing that wasn't funny when Robin Williams did it either......but, of course, that's just me.

I think I like him because his goofiness reminds me of Brian Regan, but Regan is one of my all time favorites, Dane Cook isn't even close.

Agreed 100%; Brian Regan is an underappreciated master-in-the-making.

iggystar 09-05-06 10:52 PM

Well I love Cook and Regan. Not one laugh, not one smile, c'mon. What are some of you people missing funny bones?

Someone must tell me why Reagan isn't super-famous by now.
