Which is better?
Which of these two Comedy Central giants do you prefer? Myself, I lean slightly towards The Colbert Report, but they are both fantastic shows.

Today? The Colbert Report. The Daily Show's great and deserves incredible respect for what it's done over the years, especially with Stewart, but The Colbert Report is fresh, is often more clever, and Colbert is absolutely brilliant in his interviews. I don't know if it's creative editing, incredible preparation, or simply a wealth of knowledge coupled with quick recall, but his responses to guests and BKAD reps are frequently very impressive. And I love all the side-promotion and running jokes: Alpha Squad Seven - Lady Nocturne: A Tek Jansen Adventure, The Spendiferous Zeppelin Escapades of Filliam H. Muffan, Colbert's Formula 401, The Road to World War III, etc.
Also, for reasons I'm not sure I can describe, I think I enjoy the parody style of comedy more than the satire. The Daily Show is great, but there's an undercurrent of smugness (the one-sided audience doesn't help) that slices a little funny off the top. The Report's doing the exact same thing, just with a different style, and yet somehow it retains 100% of the funny. I'll watch The Daily Show and sometimes think, "That's funny, but it's based on a faulty premise (misquote, generalization, whatever)". The Report can base a parody segment on the same faulty premise, and for whatever reason, it doesn't bother me. It's just straight-up funny. I don't really know why that is, but I've noticed it since the two shows are back-to-back.
Btw, my absolute favorite moment of every television day (Mon-Thu) is the transition exchange between the two of them. That shit's gold every single night. It's almost better than the penguin dance.

I prefer The Colbert Report.
During his first acceptance speech at the Emmys this year, Jon Stewart made a comment something like "thank you but I think you've made a terrible mistake this year". I took that to mean that he thought the award should have gone to 'The Colbert Report', but maybe I was reading too much of my own wishes into that comment.
