I called yesterday and ordered it, simple no problems.

Basically it went in the system as an upgrade to my existing HD DVR.
Paid $99 for it, with a $99 credit to the account.
19.95 shipping.
6 Months of the HD Pack for Free, and 6 months $5 off HBO.
Install date for Oct 7th.

I have the hr10-250, i'm keeping it, this new one will go in the kitchen so I can decide if I like it or not, for that price why the heck not.

My big issue with the hr10 is OTA NBC for me is spotty at best. and considering the shows I watch on NBC are the sorkin shows. last year west wing, this year sunset strip and they are very dialogue driven, little breakups suckass.

My friend called up the same day, he has the regular DTivo, 1st person told him
$299.

2nd came up with $111 and 19.99 shipping, no idea where the 111 came from.
3rd found a way to get it for him at 199, with 200 credit to account, she said it was special friends and family deal.

That happens all the time on my OTA NBC channel. I thought it was just me.

I said I couldn't find a good reason for changing earlier in the thread? I guess this would have to be a big one.

For me the reason is UHF vs VHF..
My antenna picks up all the UHF stuff real easy, but NBC broadcast's on VHF.
And it's so picky, I actually have the antenna lying on the ground facing into the earth, which you would think can't find the signal, but it still has lots of breakup.

Well, my appointment for installation was supposed to be today between 1-5 p.m. I took a half day of vacation time, and I waited. At 3:30 the guy called and said they were "overbooked." He gave me the next available day of 10/24--nearly a MONTH from now. I asked for someone in charge, and got another guy. I said, "I don't care if you're late or how late you are, but it needs to be today."

After some hemming and hawing, he finally admitted they had NO HD-DVRs in inventory, which was the real reason he couldn't come. "I've been making these calls all day," he said.

He swore he'd call me Monday to update on the "new shipment's" arrival, and he swore he'd get me in ASAP after that, not 10/24, but we'll see about that. I am not optimistic.

Called DirecTV next, and they gave me--gasp--$20 credit. I said, "Twenty bucks for missing half a day of work?" but that was it.

Nice, huh?

Do you need the new dish too? If so, I don't know why they wouldn't go out and get all those setup for people so all they have to do when they get the new DVRs is swap out the old ones.

Yes. You need the new AT-9 dish. It's heavier, and requires much more fine tuning to get a proper signals. That's also causing issues, because w/ the old 3 LNB dishes, they could set it up in 10 minutes or so. Some installers are taking over an hour to get the new AT-9 dish to get the right signals.

I got mine installed a week and a half ago.... I like it so far... it is a LOT different from my two tivo units... some of the button layouts on the remote are awkward... but... I LOVE the "meter" that tells me how much of the diskspace is used... very cool...

DirecTv installed the new dish, ran 6 new lines (I have 2 Tivo's and the HR20-250) and installed a switch on the outside of the house... all for free! (mover's connection)... took 'em about 5 hours with 2 guys... very nice... I was impressed!

HD rulez!
