Thanks...saw the Tholian Web comparison earlier on in the thread, but didn't realize they had more.

Plenty of cool new shots in "Immunity Syndrome" this week, I especially liked the shot of the Enterprise after it entered the void. They really didn't change much about the virus (or whatever it is).

"And the Children Shall Lead": completely fast-forwarded through this one just to see the new shots.

That one is pretty awful, but almost worth watching again just to then re-read The Agony Booth's review.

It was good to see the actual Klingon vessels in Errand of Mercy.

The opening battle had a lot more dramatic punch to it with the new FX, it was a big improvement.

To this day it boggles my mind that the first time they actually showed a Klingon ship was in the THIRD season. And even then they were being piloted by Romulans, not Klingons!

"Patterns of Force"

I don't understand how the FX can look rather "not so good" in the opening planet fly-by scene, but look great later in orbit?

Was the laser replaced for the jailcell? It looked better/cleaner than I remember.

Missed most of it because baseball ran over 45 minutes and cut into yesterday. I didn't figure that there would be much difference in this one since it was basically all a 20th Century-type setting.

"Bread & Circuses", I didn't even notice the two moons in this shot until I went to startrek.com this morning.

Next week, "Spock's Brain". -shudder-

Next week, comedy gold.

Were the 2 moons the only difference?

Other than the standard ship shots (approach planet, orbit, leave), yes.

Ah, "Brain and brain, what is brain?" is always good for a laugh.

Not as funny as Kirk ordering McCoy to give connecting Spock's vocal cords priority.

"Omega Glory". Just about everything new was in the opening minutes. The only thing I didn't like about the update was when Kirk called for a magnification of the ship in orbit, there wasn't very much of one.

Hey, give Spock's Brain a break! Despite all the cheese, it's a fast moving episode with a lot of great Kirk/Spock/McCoy interplay. I'll take it anyday over And the Children Shall Lead or The Way to Eden (which was later remade, even worse, as ST V).

Oh, you misunderstand me! I love "Spock's Brain". It's full of "great" bad dialogue and I'm never bored with it. I'm just saying the line "brain and brain" and the way the actress delivers it cracks me up.

And I completely agree both "Children" and "Eden" are much much worse. I couldn't even finish "Children" when it was on a few weeks ago (as I stated in post #230)

I pretty much ignore all the children episodes: Children, Miri, Charlie X.

Mmmmm, Charlie X. When I first saw this back in 69 I got all hot and bothered over Grace Lee Whitney in her negligee'. That was pretty good exposure for the time.

Hey now! How can you NOT love "Way to Eden?" Spock jamming with space hippies on his Vulcan harp? Dr. Severin, who gives new meaning to the term "cauliflower ear?" Chekov's space hippy ex-girlfriend playing what looks like a bicycle wheel? How can you go wrong with cheese like that?

The highlight of this episode is seeing man's man actor Charles Napier (gravely-voiced actor known mostly for playing tough, no-nonsense army generals) wearing hot pants & thigh-high gogo boots and prancing around the rec room while singing a horrific "groovy" song. I bet he doesn't list this gig on his resume!

Sorry. I'm just a little sensitive to the Star Trek cliche that "Spock's Brain" is TOS's worst episode. That's simply untrue! (Heck, even The Agony Booth's Worst of Trek review says it's definitely not the worst episode.)
