That has to be the worst re-title since whatever they were going to use instead of Snakes on a Plane.

Was thinking exactly the same thing.

dstrauss 07-18-06 06:53 PM

Wow. There is exactly one show, LOST, that I even remotely care about on ABC.

LorenzoL 07-18-06 07:08 PM

I'm only interested in Lost, The Nine and Six Degrees on ABC.

No kidding. Wow...total crap. Lost is it for me. Guess I'll have more time to watch HD-DVD's than I thought this fall.

Achtung 07-18-06 07:42 PM

That lineup reminds me of the time Lionel Hutz was reviewing the Fox fall lineup and the only shows listed were "The Simpsons", "The X-Files", and "Melrose Place"...

Hopefully, ABC will go back to cancelling shows after one episode.

aktick 07-18-06 09:55 PM

I thought "Traveler" was on ABC?

I heard this was pretty much the one ABC show with promise. Hopefully they'll go back to the old title before it hits the air.

A lot of people are saying Ugly Betty is the best pilot they've seen so far from all the networks.

So with that late start date for Lost, does this mean we're only getting 7 or 8 episodes before it goes on that 13 week hiatus?

Edit: Looks like we're only getting it for six weeks before the break.

"We've just really…listened to the audience about the repeats, and it felt like this was really the best way to run the show," McPherson said Tuesday during ABC's presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. "It's a very, very difficult show to produce. You know, if we could run 22 straight in the fall, we probably would. But we just can't get the shows done in that amount of time.
Then just start it in January? :hscratch:

This 13-week break after 6 new episodes seems like it might be more aggravating than their previous scheduling.

If Salma makes an appearance, I'll definitely watch this show.

That's strange. I have heard quite the opposite. In fact, the guy from thefutoncritic.com wondered how the hell the pilot even got made.

I think the truth is that short of producing 44 episodes a year, there's no way to satisfy LOST's audience. People are going to complain if they hold it until January. People are going to complain if they break it up to show us 6 and 16. People are going to complain if they show 2 and then show 2 repeats (except during sweeps).

As long as they plan for 6/16 and leave us at a good place after the first 6, that's fine with me.

dstrauss 07-19-06 06:25 PM

Actually, I'd be fine with Lost if they did the 24 thing -- held back until January and then went straight through.

There is certainly credence in this philosophy. NBC did that with Scrubs last year, basically planning that some of their shows would be cancelled by January. Judging by the above line-up, I doubt ABC would have a hard time putting LOST back in its normal slot.

What??!! Freaking hell... hadn't heard this myself. Thanks for the precedent, Prison Break.

Dunno, IMO the 24-style season works out much better. In fact I was hoping that we'd see fewer and fewer "traditional" seasons in general with the way things are.

'Ugly Betty' Gets Scheduling Makeover
ABC moves new series to Thursday nights
August 9 2006

LOS ANGELES -- ABC has given a big vote of confidence to its new series "Ugly Betty," moving the show away from the relative quiet of Friday night and into the competitive fray on Thursdays.

"Betty," an adaptation of the telenovela "Betty La Fea," is now scheduled to premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 28, where it will lead off a lineup that also includes the hit hospital drama "Grey's Anatomy" and another new series, "Six Degrees." ABC will move utility player "America's Funniest Home Videos" into the 8 p.m. Friday spot that was "Betty's" original home.

The move comes after the show received a wave of positive reaction from critics at last month's Television Critics Association press tour. "Ugly Betty," executive produced by Salma Hayek (who also has a cameo in the pilot), follows a bright but plain-looking young woman (America Ferrera) trying to make her mark at a glossy fashion magazine.

The scheduling change displaces two other new shows, the comedies "Big Day" and "Notes from the Underbelly." ABC hasn't given them new homes yet, but they could end up on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights after "Dancing with the Stars" finishes its run later in the fall. Returning sitcoms "According to Jim" and "George Lopez" are also likely to fill one of the "Dancing" hours.

More people watch television on Thursday than on Friday, giving "Ugly Betty" a bigger pond in which to swim. But the show will also face some heavy competition in CBS' "Survivor" and NBC's "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office." FOX is also going with new shows in the timeslot -- sitcoms "'Til Death" and "Happy Hour" -- while The CW will return one of its top shows, "Smallville."

In more immediate scheduling news, ABC has yanked the unscripted show "One Ocean View" from its Monday schedule, effective next week after two episodes drew weak ratings. It will be replaced by repeats of "Supernanny."

the novela on Univision was an extreme hit.... but this schedule change might doom it.... sucks

Quake1028 08-09-06 12:49 PM

13 week break . You've got to be kidding me. I for one am EXTREMELY glad that I watch this show on DVD exclusively now.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I was enjoying this. A Real World clone but a little more grounded and with much better looking people. Plus I liked the fact that it was the first reality show (that I can think of, and I don't count a show like Idol as reality) broadcast in HD (or at least 480p).

FinkPish 08-09-06 01:16 PM

I guess ABC thinks they have something special in Day Break? I can't think of why Lost would need a 13 week hiatus unless their shooting schedule were completely messed up.

MrX 08-09-06 01:34 PM

Becasue of everybody bitching about the schedule last year.
