drama as the only one sweating + the towel was hilarious

SonOfAStu 06-19-06 10:12 AM

I was howling when Drama and the host kid were about to fight. What a fantastic party.

Then Vince was talking the kids up to the chicks as his cousins and got their names switched around. rotfl

Does anyone know if they got Cameron to actually direct that Aquaman sequence?

Chrisedge 06-19-06 10:29 AM

Great Episode, but Ari's wife making a "emergency session" on opening day of the movie? I'm surprised he even showed up.

Comic book fans fixate on the most insignificant things (and I say that as someone who is a comic book fan).* Who the hell cares whether Aquaman is a blond or a brunet? If they were really making an Aquaman movie, I wouldn't care what the actor who played him looked like -- I'd want them to make an exciting movie that's faithful to the over-arching story and theme of the Aquaman book (although Aquaman's been through so many permutations at the hands of so many different writers, the question then becomes "which Aquaman book?")

* And here's where I prove what a comic book nerd I am: Technically, Aquaman's blond hair is something of a plot point, since some versions of the Aquaman story say that there is a prophecy about a fair-haired Atlantean, and that Aquaman is the only blond in Atlantis and is the fulfillment of thta prophecy. That said, if Vincent Chase were otherwise perfect for the part, and the prophecy didn't figure into the film, I'd be perfectly fine with casting him for the part.

Speaking of being a nerd, here I am debating over the casting of a fictional actor to play a superhero in a movie that will never be made. Am I a huge nerd or what?

I was thinking the same thing. It definitely had high production value, and was well put together.

"I better hydrate."

"Sit. Down."

awesome.

Wow nerd alert in this thread.

Great episode, one of the best ever. The whole bit about the Valley being 100+ in certain months was gold (and true). Ari was awesome as usual.

They haven't mentioned how Queens Blvd. faired have they? I know it was set to debut at the end of last season.

It was an indie film, so box was irrelavent I assume.

I was thinking more about awards and "buzz."

We saw the movie at Sundance, but didn't hear when it was coming out. My guess that with Aquaman a huge hit, that it'll be released quickly to capitalize on VC's superstardom.

Once again, KD shows why Drama is my favorite of the bunch. His staredown of Pissy Customer had me howling.

I loved the Almost Famous homage. I was expecting Vince to jump into the pool and yell out "I'm a golden god." after Ari told him about Aquaman being projected to beat Spiderman. In RL, Pirates 2 is expected to beat Spidey's record. "Take that, Tobey." indeed.

I thought Ari was going to smack Lloyd with the coffee pot instead of the statue he got him.

I really enjoyed that one. Very fun episode, though there's no way that rolling blackouts all along the west coast don't hurt the box office opening of a major film.
"In life there are no asterisks, only scoreboards."
"It's not the Cubs fault that that douchebag went for that foul ball. They still don't have World Series rings"
"Tomorrow you won't be walking right"

Someone please give Piven an Emmy!

Here's an image relating to the Aquaman opening weekend gross. I guess it could be considered a spoiler if you don't want to know how much it made. So I'll just post a link.

Spoiler:
This ad was in yesterday's Variety. $116,844,114...so it beat Spider-Man.

So whats going to be Vince's big downfall? Having the biggest opeing film in history has to be a setup for something.

Sorta the same thing I was thinking. He's been on a gradual upward trend the entire series and you have to expect a downward trend too. Granted, that'll likely be in a pre-announced final season.

Cusm 06-20-06 10:53 AM

So did Vince have points on the movie, is that why he was spending so much cash?

Patman 06-20-06 11:01 AM

He's spending his next paycheck (from the next movie deal).

He has a deal for $11 mil for Aquaman2 and $20mil for III...a big opening both gurantees the sequels PLUS gives him a bigger asking price for his next project.

B.A. 06-20-06 07:31 PM

Drama sweating like no one has since Ewing retired. And then telling the guy to go back to his seat while wearing the towel in the theater. rotfl

I was wondering how Ari was going to destroy Lloyd's figurine.

and Turtle's creepy turn. :D

I believe that II was meant to be filmed at the same time as I (LOTR style according to Ari when he was selling Vince on it)

Just think of what happened to Dicaprio after Titanic. Ellin was quoted in the LA Times about how he's really basing Vince on him rather than Mark.
