Actually Ramsay called Regis Philbin that last week on Regis & Kelly. I really hate Heather she is sooo using oooh am a poor girl card, but it looks really bad for the blue team.

Giantrobo 06-19-06 11:31 PM

This is my first look at this show and for the most part I watched both eps. WILD....

sracer 06-20-06 12:19 AM

The show is already getting boring. The yelling, name calling, teasing, and profanity were titillating for oh... the first 30 minutes of the first episode. Watching these "chefs" try to cook is as painful as watching a mangled baby duck try to walk.

Select the "cream of the crop" of the flotsam and jetsam of humanity and set them up to be humiliated. What's next? A reality show where they pick 10 people in full leg casts and put them through marine bootcamp and have the drill sargeant bark insults at their inability to climb the rope?

At least they're not making afterbirth on toast.

I find Sara attractive, only because she reminds me of a chubbier Eva Angelina.

The first three episodes have been entertaining, but nobody is likeable unlike last season which could sadly turn out for the worst. Hopefully this show doesn't take a nosedive similar to this past season of The Apprentice where the show was nearly unwatchable due to the fact that there were no likeable contestants. Let's hope the cheese factor continues to remain in first gear and the F-bombs continue to drop every eight seconds.

I think the only reason he's saved the stockbrocker's ass twice now is because the tension between the two and the "I hate this guy" factor is so high for everyone watching. It's the only really interesting part of the show.

The chefs may in fact be worse than last seasons crop, they're progressing much slower.

Not a Sara fan but I think Virginia looks better and got the nicest set of boobs.

I've gotten comfortable with Ramsey and the contestants' profanity but I think it should stop there. When Ramsey's staff, Mary Ann and Scott, start dropping the F word and calling contestants stupid, I think that is crossing the line a bit. :whofart:

Timber 06-20-06 08:40 AM

What's with Heather? She always looks like she's about to cry when she talks. She a Sous chef for crying out loud, yet she thinks she's better then everyone there (well she might be but still)

Noonan 06-20-06 08:49 AM

I really liked this show last season, but after watching Top Chef it seems like a joke. I get the feeling that they picked the most useless people on purpose just so Ramsey would be able to crap all over them. I would have rather seen people who know what they're doing instead of this mess...still going to watch it though.

Superman07 06-20-06 08:55 AM

Couple of things.

1) I don't watch much reality tv, but the main gripe I had with last season and this season is the complete lack of personalities these contestants have. Bleh. Get some real people in there who don't have a chip on their shoulder.

2) I truely wish they would concentrate more on the lessons they learn. WTF do we need to see 10 minutes worth of recaps (combined) after all of the commercials, and interviews where these people bitch.

3) I've seen some of his other stuff on BBC America and he tends to be a much more down to earth person. Case in point, I don't recall the name of the show, but he spent a week in a lady's restaurant yelling at her chef(s) and helping her refine her menu. But then he returned 2-3 months later and it was all chummy. He's a hardass in order to get his point across, but I think all-in-all he is a nice guy to know. At least that's my take.

I really was hoping they would have fixed items 1 and 2 between the seasons. This show really is a joke compared to the British version that he runs. It's much more interactive/live similar to A.I. where you call in and vote. Plus the voice-over announcer for the US sucks beyond belief.

That would be Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. BBC America is running the new season on Wednesday nights at 9.:)

Not only that, last season's contestants consisted of a lot of people who weren't actual chefs or never had professional food industry jobs. A majority of the blue team this season have all been involved with the food industry except the one weak link (Tom) who has managed to still be in the game.

DRG 06-20-06 03:15 PM

I'm sure not all the chefs aren't as bad as they are made out to be here... for starters we only see twenty minutes or so of the kitchen action, and they back there for over an hour (over two if you consider the men and women are concurrently working and we only see clips from one team at a time). So there's probably *some* good cooking going on as well, it just doesn't get shown because it doesn't make good tv.

Plus thanks to Ramsey's "all dishes must be perfect or we throw them all out and start over" policy, all it takes is one bad link to screw up the service. And I'm sure they do throw in a couple of poor candidates into the mix just for that purpose.

YEAH YEAH YEAH!!! When the assistant started jumping on that stupid ass and calling him names for not having the oven on it seemed a bit much to me. Just keep your mouth shut and let the Star do the punishing.

I think you're right. When he was on the boat with the girls he seemed really cool and laid back. Obviously the girls got a "cool nice guy with some words of wisdom" kinda vibe too. I mean sure, they were kissing his ass. But you could tell he had some sort of positive effect on them even after he left.

Buford T Pusser 06-20-06 10:44 PM

He always seems much nicer on the outside trips yes?

I added the "yes?" since he uses that at the end of his sentences all the time.

I think he's an intense perfectionist that demands the best from himself and employees so it's tough to be a weak link in the kitchen. But the few good win out.

That's why he's a highly-rated chef/owner with a show vs. the guy that owns the neighborhood eatery that would get one or two stars.

I know a nice guy that was on a chef competition show but I'm not sure if it was Top Chef or something else. He was against a Japanese chef IIRC.

Anyway, his name is Michael Simon and he's always laughing, not a hard-ass so that just shows different people use different methods to get the best out of their workers.

Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Buford T Pusser 06-20-06 11:26 PM

Did anyone see Ramsay on Conan the other night? He made something w/Conan and it was very funny.

Fok 06-21-06 01:17 PM

Great show, can't get enough of it

It's a much worse roster than last year, when there were a few sympathetic people who could cook. Tom is a conniving, greasy schlub, and the fat homeboy white guy is pretty stupid. On the men's side that leaves (I think his name is) Garrett, who is OK.
On the women's side, Heather, whom I liked at first, has become a pompous, overbearing wheedler. Sara seems like a ruthless cow, as does that butch, used-up-looking fake blonde. Maribel seems like the nicest of the ladies.

Pretty sad when you're rooting for a jailbird to take the prize.

Norm de Plume 06-22-06 08:38 PM

Oh yes, I forgot; he's the ex-con. I find it much sadder to discover myself (however marginally) invested in a "reality" show to the point I would waste my time discussing any of this dreck. I normally avoid these programs like the plague.
