Look! Up In The Sky Superman documentary June 12 on A&E

A&E is showing this in advance of the new Superman movie. Looks like something to DVR, although I hear the DVD that's coming out at the end of the month will be 30 minutes longer!

Looking forward to this, but I'll be holding out for the Netflix rental for that extra half-hour.

Will check in for a bit, but was counting on getting the DVD, so I'll probably just sample it on TV.

Anybody catch this last night?

I thought it was really good, very comprehensive and informative, I think I know more about superman now, than I ever did before.

Also, looks like best buy will have a 2 disc SE of this with a different cover and slipcase.

I caught this as well and enjoyed every minute of it.

I may hold off on buying the DVD since I am pretty sure it will be the 14th disc of the box set coming out this fall.

I saw it. Wasn't bad, although I thought it should have spent more time on the origins of the character and Siegel and Shuster's lawsuits against DC than they did. Of course, this was marketing for The Return of Superman, so obviously that wouldn't be in there...

Keep in mind that all of this DVD content (the A&E documentary and the video journals that are on the bonus DVD) are supposed to be included in the 14-disc uber-set that is coming in November:

Some completists may want this for the limited slipcover, frameable prints, etc... but others may just want to hold out for a few months.

It was ok. I was hoping for more discussion on the Salkinds vs. Donner problem and the jockeying in the 90s over the movie ideas.

That was hilarious.

Also, I couldn't believe after the show, did anybody see that A&E was showing a rock, paper, scissors tournament

I mean how can there actually be a tournament for that, isn't it just luck and chance. I mean the only skill it might take is someone working the probablities of what the other person is going to show. Anyways, just thought it was hilarious, there is a tournament for everything now I guess.

Wasn't some of this found in the original Superman DVD?

(I'd look, but my copy is packed up in moving boxes.)

I thought it was pretty good, I already knew a lot of the material they covered, but still found it interesting and captivating, especially the stuff about the production of Superman 1 and 2. Clearly it could have gone deeper, but why dredge up 30 year old anger when you're trying to sell the new movie.

It was weird that they interviewed all the (living) men who played Superman, except Tom Welling, (they even had Gerard Christopher). I'm not saying its a slight, just weird.

I enjoyed that they showed that Jon Peters guy. I could just envision him speaking with Kevin Smith - "You know why we get Superman? Because we're both from the streets." "There's gotta be a big spider"

He just had that crazy look to him...hard to believe that he gets paid to come up with some of that crap. I thought it was pretty cool of him though to fess up that he had it all wrong from the beginning.

The documentary can be seen online (along with other Superman stuff) at AOL's In2TV website (requires highspeed connection and Windows XP).

Technically, and what make him an oddball of the group, Tom has never played a character named Superman/Superboy..... his only character is Clark kent

I thought they should have dug in the archives and aired some EPK footage of Chris Reeve. Even though he's now deceased, I would have liked to have heard some of his thoughts on playing Superman.

As for Tom Welling, I definitely would have liked to have heard some interview footage from him. Maybe he was too busy filming Cheaper by the Dozen 2? I did think it was weird they only managed to get Annette O'Toole from the Smallville cast.

Is anyone actually going to buy the 2 hour DVD? I really thought it was an excellent documentary, but I don't know what they could have covered in the bonus 30 minutes.

Does that A&E doc end when Lois says "He's Superman, everyone was in love with him?"

The stupid AOL site isn't working too well for me

They certainly were mum on George Reeves suicide.I thought all along that Jack Larson said that he was murdered but he did a complete 180 turn on the documentary.

I thought this was very well done. I would have liked to see more on the pop culture phenomenon (like uber collectors), but overall, good job.
