David Lee Roth on The Tonight Show 6/6/06

Please tell me somone saw this.

I saw that he was going to be on and watched because I thought "he might do something wierd." I never expected this. It was David Lee's "southern side of Van Halen" -- a bluegrass band performing "Jump" with a fiddle as the synth lead and David Lee one-uping any parody band. Pat Boone doing Metallica has nothing on David Lee doing...well, Van Halen.

I was busy watching an excellent Elvis Costello performance on Letterman.

Hopefully they will rerun it next week during their overnight block.

When I first heard Jay announcing him I was like WTF? Then the music started(JUMP) and it was really weird. But after a while I got into it. I like Bluegrass and the backing musicians were really good. The Banjo and the Steel/slide guitar players handled Eddie's guitar and Synth solos and it sounded really cool. Dave was Dave and that's all you need.

I'm sure i'll be in the minority but I give the performance a

The music was good and it was an interesting twist to do a bluegrass version of "Jump" but David Lee Roth himself gave me the creeps. He was really bizarre.

I saw that one too. I guess I'm lucky because in my broadcast area, Letterman starts about a minute after Leno and the commercials are spaced so that you can usually catch both musical guests with little or no overlap.

Yep, I caught it. Roth is still Roth (huge grin and all).

For the curious, you can hear a sampling of the album here:

If you want to see it, it is on YouTube. Just do a search for "david lee roth jay leno." On a related note, "Jamie's Cryin'" done bluegrass-style isn't too bad.

If I didn't know better I'd swear that was Steve Martin. The grin...the mannerisms. Freaky.

Because I'm such a great guy I'll give you all a heads up that he'll be on the Late Late Show w/Craig Ferguson Thursday night.
