Now - are all of you onto Buffy Season 8 in the comic books? Issue #4 comes out next week. If I were you, get them but don't read them. The are such quick reads, you'll need a year's worth of issues to come close to an episode. ;)

Issue 4? When the fuck did issue 3 come out?

Xander 04-25-07 09:26 AM

I'm pretty sure he means issue #3. :)

Ok back to the show real quick here...

I've just finished Buffy Season 4 and Angel Season 1. Do the rest of the seasons cross-over? Or can I just finish off one and then the other. Thanks!

critterdvd 08-11-07 05:02 PM

The rest of the season's cross-over, but not nearly as much. Some Angel Characters show up in Buffy season 5, vice versa for Angel Season 2 but nothing that overly effects the plot. BTVS S6/Angel S3 - no crossovers... But Buffy S7/Angel S4 has a fairly large crossover towards the end of both seasons...

starseed1981 08-11-07 09:16 PM

Thanks alot for the heads up. I'm really liking these shows so far; it's great because every character is interesting...whereas there is usually dead weight on both shows.
Thanks again!

The wife and I finally finished Buffy a couple of weeks ago and just started on the last season of Angel (we've been Netflixing the whole time).

Impressions with no spoilers: Boy...we were both glad to be rid of Buffy (the show, not the character). After season 4 the show just seemed to go steadily downhill. Sure there were some enjoyable episodes along the way but nothing like Seasons 2, 3 & 4. If it hadn't been for Spike in the last 2 seasons and Andrew's comic relief in the last season, I don't know if we could have made it.

One very noticeable fact that we both agreed on...Angel is a far superior show. Even with the "whiny Conner" storyline, Angel was always compelling and we would groan a little when we knew we had to switch back to an Buffy disc in the later years. That has not happened once with Angel.

I am looking forward to ending Angel though. I think 5 seasons is about right and could not see it going much further. Buffy way overstayed it welcome and it showed in every aspect of the show.

While I probably enjoyed the latter seasons of buffy more than you did (probably came with waiting weeks between episodes) I whole heartedly agree with you about Angel. From the beginning it is a much superior show, all the characters click and there really isn't a dull storyline. Season 5 was probably the second best season of the series, despite the fact the show was missing its biggest asset (IMO): Cordelia. I really would have been interested in a Season 6 though, especially if the rumors were true about Oz coming to L.A....

Season 6 and 7 of Buffy were nowhere near the quality of it's previous seasons and though the last season of Angel started out quite bad (because of interference from the network) it turned out to be a great season about midway through.

IDW will have Angel "season 6" comics, co-written by Joss, so we'll find out what happened after the last stand in the alley.

riley_dude 08-17-07 10:47 PM

Now that I want to see. I am enjoying Buffy season 8 comics.

Here's more info that I got out of the latest Comics Shop News...

- Writer Brian Lynch has been tapped by creator Joss Whedon to write Angel: After The Fall, the at-least-twelve-part series that will basically serve as "season six" of the five-season Buffy spinoff. Lynch said that, after his Spike: Asylum series premiered, IDW recieved "A very complimentary, somewhat life-changing e-mail from Mr. Whedon saying that he enjoyed Spike: Asylum and thinks that maybe the time is right to officially continue the Angel story and that I would be the guy to write it. We traded e-mails back and forth for awhile and eventually met up for breakfast and he told me all his ideas and I told him the one I had ('Angel should fight monsters!') and then I put some of the ideas to paper, slowly the story's spine started to form, I'd send him an e-mail with more ideas, he'd send send an e-mail back with even better ideas, it slowly but surely became the greatest story of all time and he was all 'this is neat' and here we are." Angel After The Fall will be illustrated by Franco Urru.

Ugh. No thanks. Angel ended perfectly.

I don't think the ending was perfect, but I'd rather them leave it be than continue the story with comics.

I actually agree. Initially I loved the idea of Buffy continuing in the form of comics... but once I read the first three issues or so it just didn't feel right. It felt like I was reading fanfiction, even if it had Joss Whedon's name in the credits.

I'll admit that the opening teaser gave me goosebumps and thoroughly excited me, but its just not the same. I'd much rather have a TV movie or something, than the comics... and I might get attacked for saying it - I REALLY don't want Angel continued in comic form. I think it would not only cheapen the amazing ending, but anything will pail in comparison.

Alright, I've made it through and am ready to start Buffy Season 7 And Angel Season 4. Does anybody have a recommended episode viewing order?

Here's another version in table form. :)

Buffy/Angel Watch Order

Josh-da-man 09-15-07 12:00 AM

It doesn't really matter as long as long as you realize that...

Buffy "Lies My Parents Told Me" leads into the Angel episode "Orpheus," which in turn leads back into the Buffy episode "Dirty Girls."

And the Angel season finale "Home" leads into the Buffy episode "End of Days."

Just SO many spoilers there. Read with caution, m'kay? Also, it suggests watching Orpheus before Lies, and that just ain't right.

starseed1981 09-15-07 08:43 AM

Thanks guys.

starseed1981 09-23-07 05:08 PM

So I'm about 3/4ths through Buffys Sixth season. What the heck happened here? The drop in quality is huge (I'm talking 24 Season 6 huge). Man, if I wasn't so close to the end I don't know if I could get through this.

Probably has something to do with Joss Whedon juggling three different series: Buffy, Angel, and pre-production on Firefly. As such, he more or less left the current series, Angel and Buffy, in the hands of his underlings. Marti Noxon generally gets the blame for the loss of quality seen in the later seasons of Buffy. (Whereas season three of Angel, which ran concurrently with BTVS season six, is quite strong.)

starseed1981 09-23-07 06:57 PM

Yeah, I finished Angel Season 3 and that has gotten better with every year. But this sixth season of Buffy is just a mess. There really isn't a coherent storyline or any character development (aside from Willow going through Magic withdrawl). Maybe I'm being to harsh, but Angel Season 3 just set the bar so high for me (I'm watching the shows in tandem). Oh well.

It also depends on your age about buffy season 6. But yes, many consider it the worst season in the series, eventhough it contains the musical episode. Personally I thought it was okay, but not nearly as good as the series was in past year. And the final 4 episodes still piss me off. But don't worry, season seven is ALOT better. Its not the buffy of years past, but its a huge improvement over seasons 6 and 4.

And I do find it ironic that Angel was at its best in season 3, the same television year that Buffy was at its worst.

But I believe the best year of the buffyverse was Buffy Season 5/ Angel Season 2 - eventhough season 2 of buffy is the best :p
