Rescue Me
By Ray Richmond 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 30 FX What began as a wry and poignant post-Sept. 11 examination of the New York firefighter soul has upped its game to stand as true art. "Rescue Me" opens its third season with a trio of episodes that establish the seriocomic FX hour as quite possibly the finest drama on television and on a par with "The Sopranos" as the best written. The threesome is by turns sardonic, wrenching, mocking, brutal, lighthearted and powerful, with Denis Leary evolving before our eyes from a comic-turned-actor into an earnest, fearless performer. It's as if the guy has somehow channeled his inner James Dean the way he embodies such raw, animal passion and hostility. Moreover, Leary and co-creator/exec producer Peter Tolan pull off the trick of moving between tones and genres with utter seamlessness in their co-written scripts, rendering categorization itself essentially obsolete. Spoiler:
If Emmy voters ignore this show and/or Leary's scintillating performance, it could only mean they've lapsed into a collective coma. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr..._id=1002576778 |
 I've been looking forward to this for some time now.

Edit: It's nice to finally see Dean Winters get his name in the main titles. |
Dayum! Paige Turco (Mrs. Turbity) is still looking fine these days. Loving how flustered Tommy got in her presence, and now he's scheming to hit it and put a wedge between her and his godson. Good stuff.

Guys, if you haven't seen this Rescue Me short, go to the website and see it NOW - it is freaking hilarious! |
As much as I enjoyed the episode, the teaser for The Shield had me salivating.
|
Well, looks like it's going to be another fantastic season!
|
Yah, F-in Fantastic, for sure!
Just wait until Tommy finds out who's now schtuppin' Janet. |
"I didn't know he was a Pink Floyd fan."
"That's Green Day asshole" Great start to the season. Tommy's going to go apeshit when he finds out his brother is banging Janet. |
The smoking scene when the Chief instituted the kitty was hysterical.
And I second (or third, lost count) the short at either www.fxnetwork.com or www.aol.com - it was a riot, and it better be on the third season DVD. I finally figured out why more people aren't watching this show - it can be difficult to go from depression and tears to laughing your ass off in a minute. Those of us who are wiser and more ambi-emotional are surely blessed to have a show that appeals to our abilities. (/snark) But seriously, the way the show goes from one extreme to the other is pretty jarring but worth it. And now I can't wait for The Shield. |

"It's the wolf"rotfl |
I love how Uncle Teddy is trying to get off the hook for the murder by blaming it on his food allergies amogst other things. rotfl

Whenever Janet is confronted about having sex with Tommy's brother, couldn't she just whisper "Shelia" and snap her fingers?
|
Personally I think brother is a million times worse than cousin's widow.
Anyone find the link for the first 4 minutes of next week's episode that they advertised? I was at the site but could not find it. |
Jesus this show hits hard.
|
btw: what's with the excitment about the shield "coming soon"? Isn't it supposed to be back in jan 2007? That's not "soon."

I actually enjoyed the teasers for It's Always Sunny in Philly - "Are you banging your sister?" & "I'm gay for God." |

Great episode. The Sunny promos had me laughing as well. |
Paige Turco... :hump:
They they ever bother to explain the absense of the "other cop brother," or are they trying to forget he ever existed? |
Excellent start to the season!
So did Tommy stary drinking again when he drank right before the dream house fire? Or was his drinking also part of the dream? If I recall he had not had a drink since the middle of season 2. My heart sank when I saw him chugging that bottle. It's really amazing when you can feel for a character so much you just want to reach into the screen and talk them out of it. It's like watching a close family member drink themselves to death. |
did he save the girl at the end? i couldnt tell if he did or if he was trying so hard that it was just some involuntary motion from pushing on her so hard for so long?
|
Great stuff.
Paige Turco is so fucking hot. I so miss The Agency. :( |
Am I the only one who is missing Diane Farr?
I would say they are off to a great start. Can't wait to see where it goes. And for those who haven't seen the AOL short, RUN, don't walk, to see it. Man, that was funny! |

I loved Tommy's reaction when he walks into the older Mrs. Turbity's classroom, "Oh no..." Solid start to - what looks to be - another great season. |
They should have covered up his brothers tattoo in bed. I saw his arm and was thinking OZ.
