Everwood on the CW Website

OK, what about this: If 7th Heaven got itself another season just because the "series finale" drew in a ton of viewers.... what would happen if the Everwood series finale drew in a ton of viewers too?
Anyone want to help out?

I'm all for getting a bunch of people to watch to the everwood finale, but there are plus/minuses of having the everwod finale so late in the game is that the rating probably won't matter a ton (unless it pushes 8 million viewers), and even then it might not matter that much... but since it is so late in the game the producers had the chance to make the two different endings, so atleast there will be a 'fitting end to the series'

unless the WB promotes the crap out of the Everwood series finale like they did for an entire year for 7th Heaven I don't see Everwoods ratings going up much.

On Monday, a repeat of Seventh Heaven drew 50% better numbers than an original Everwood. I loved Everwood, but TV is a business above all else...the fact that some great entertainment happens to air is merely a side effect.

I'll also note that the WB stuck a shiv in Everwood's rating by treating it poorly (sticking it on unexpected hiatus) this season.

One Tree Hill = Cheaper then Everwood
Repeats of Next Top Model = Free
Everwood = Cost Money = Less Ratings then REPEATS of Next Top Model.
Yeah, it sucks. But if I ran a network and could save $40 million a year and get better ratings, wouldn't you?

The real factor here is the One Tree Hill brand. The non-TV business side is much more attractive than Everwood. Similar to the OC model, though slightly (significantly?) less popular.
With OTH, the DVD sales are much higher. You are also able to sell all sorts of misc. merchandise. They are even selling clothes from Sophia Bush's character's clothing company from the show. If you are able to market merchandise based on an imaginary clothing company, then that is free money.
Any of you interested in buying an Ephram branded piano? Deliah caps? Frumpy clothes inspired by Hannah? Dr. Abbott bobble heads?

I would guess that OTH is a cheaper show to produce, though not significantly so.

With 'Everwood' Treat Williams costs a pretty penny (and Scott Wolf as well)... And not to mention 'everwood' has more regular characters on the pay roll they need to worry about, and their writer/directors are more established, and therefore more expensive.
Another factor is the fact they are both filmed on location, and "One Tree Hill" is in an established (thanks to Dawson's Creek) filming town, and is able to have sets never the location shots, everwood on the otherhand is almost completly on location.
And one last factor is the fans, OTH fans have proven that they are loyal to the end, and will do alot (the 'save one show' proved that), and also, like it has been said above, OTH is more marketable as well.

As for why Everwood never did better....is that even a serious question? 7th Heaven is to TV what McDonald's burgers are to the dining out industry. Everwood is definately of a higher class. Like McDonald's burgers or pop corn movies, shows like 7th Heaven will inevitably draw in higher numbers because that's what sells. Kinda like the Da Vinci Code being a best selling novel, when it's hardly a great book at all, while great novels struggle to get the attention they deserve. The majority don't mind being spoon fed crap.

The first two seasons of Everwood was rerun quite a bit. Easy view and it wasn't replaced mid season like it was this year with Beauty and The Geek.
The problem was Everwood did even worse in reruns than the first runs.
I am a huge Everwood fan. The first two season are some of the best TV I have ever watched, but I blame Berlanti for leaving the show in the hands of a Rina Mimoun. The show hasn't been the same since.

It seems to be a problem of the WB that with the exception of '7th Heaven' there Drama's never really reran very well. I mean it can be traced all the way back to 2000, when 'Felicity' and 'Jack and Jill' shared a time slot (Felicity from Sept to Nov, J&J from Dec to Mar, Felicity from Mar to June)...
I honestly think that if the CW wanted to make money right out of the gate they should have adapted a schedule like Fox's, that has seperate 'fall' and 'spring' lineups... For Example: Have '7th Heaven' be year long, but then have runaway end in Dec and bring 'everwood' in Janruary, do the same with one tree hill/hidden palms, and smallville/aquaman...
