I would say it's definitely a slow starter, and the first season is a lot of buildup. And as with any first TV season - it's very much still trying to find it's way and figure out what it's going to be. Just look at the changes from the Pilot- "The Gathering" - to the first epsiode, and you'll get some idea of what I'm talking about. Things do pick up around midway through, and the end of Season 1 is pretty great.

It just get better and better from there - with, I'll very much agree, the 3rd and 4th seasons being some of the best Sci-Fi TV out there, period. I actually started watching the show during Season 3, got hooked, and had to go back and play catch up borrowing a friend's tapes.

Some people found actor Michael O'Hare to be very wooden - but I always liked the guy, myself.

Anyway, tell your wife to give it another try and hang in there. She will end up being very gald she did. Hope you both enjoy the ride!
