I guess its looking pretty bleak for a Veronica Mars Season 4 these days. :(

TheMovieman 02-07-07 02:00 PM

I highly doubt CW will renew it. The retention out of Gilmore Girls was pretty bad and the ratings throughout the year have been pretty poor...

dvd182 02-07-07 02:13 PM

I actually wouldn't be too surprised to see the CW renew it. If pilot development goes as bad as it did for them last year, they won't have much else to air. Also, Rob Thomas appears to be agreeing to nearly everything the CW wants for the final season 3 episodes (standlones, no big overlying mystery), which isn't something you wouldn't think he would do if he knew they were going to get cancelled. Who knows, though.

TheMovieman 02-07-07 05:18 PM

But if you're the execs for VM, how do you explain the terrible numbers. Gilmore Girls got 4.6m viewers (against American Idol) and Veronica Mars managed to tumble by 46.5% in viewers. Granted, it's not the greatest back-to-back lineup (unlike The Unit following NCIS), but that was pretty bad.

I wonder if they should try moving to Thursdays at 9 after Smallville since, from what I've seen, Supernantural isn't pulling in great numbers...

Jeremy517 02-07-07 05:50 PM

CW has at least four shows that could conceivably not come back (unless i missed an announcement somewhere): One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Seventh Heaven. It seems unlikely that they'd let all four go away at the same time.

TheMovieman 02-07-07 06:30 PM

I've read somewhere that it's very likely 7th Heaven will not return. Apparently advertising for the show is almost zilch and CW is just going to let it die. Don't know if that's what will happen but out of those, it seems 7th Heaven will be gone and perhaps then VM will be saved...

Isn't Reba gone now too?

'Seventh Heaven' is long gone because a) the ratings are significantly lower this year than last, and their just isn't any more advertising power left behind the show. 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Smallville' are both loosing steam, yet they have large advertising power, hence CW is going to try and keep them around for as long as possible. 'One Tree Hill,' 'Smallville,' and 'Veronica Mars' are the swing shows. 'One Tree Hill' is much cheaper than the other two to produce and has high advertising power because of the steady audience numbers, and their female demo which leads me to believe that (pending the products of the pilot season) that it will be back, 'supernatural' is 50/50, and sadly I am not expecting 'Veronica Mars' to come back.

8-9pm (7-8pm):
NCIS is such a great show and i don't understand why people watch garbage like american idol. at least NCIS is in the #2 spot. nice to see it beat americas (un) funniest home videos.

9-10pm (8-9pm):
wow law & order: ci in #3 spot. house in first, i have never been a big fan of it but i see the intrest. i have lost all intrest of the unit at this point, its not as good as the season 1 to me.

10-11pm (9-10pm):
nice to see law & order: svu in the #1 slot, it was a good episode last nite. like i said before the unit is not intresting to me anymore, i would have liked to have seen boston legal in the #2 slot but it really isn't that important to me.

Top Shows - 18-49 Demo
Winners:
nice to see NCIS & Law & Order: SVU in the winners section, not happy to see american idol in the winners place but i knew it would be #1.

Losers:
wow people arn't watch "to catch a predator?" what a surpise, i don't think people like that kind of stuff some people might feel aquaired.
nice to see piss poor ratings for the cw. 1.3 million for veronica mars, may the cw should keep reba on the air cause the networks gonna go under and i can't wait till it does.
reba is a great show and they cancelled it so i hope the network dies.

Looks like Criminal Minds got a million or so viewer bump from it's averages due to the post Superbowl slot.

superdeluxe 02-08-07 12:28 PM

14.58 for LOST? Is that low? Seems low.

It's on par with where it was this time last year, though last year it was going against Idol in the timeslot. Now it's just later.

And yeah, it's about 2m lower than this years average (which was about on par with what it was doing during season 2 after the first couple eps.)

DJariya 02-08-07 01:29 PM

Wow I'm impressed with Bones' resurgence. It's one of my favorite shows and now it's pretty much a lock for a 3rd season if these numbers keep up.

I kinda figured Lost wouldn't be able to overtake CSI:NY. I like both shows and the numbers seem solid for Lost. I also like Medium, but they are looking at 3rd place the rest of the season.

As for Criminal Minds, solid numbers as usual.

Well, I gotta cross my fingers now for Friday Night Lights survival.

nateman 02-08-07 11:05 PM

8-9pm (7-8pm):
wow bones beat a repeat of criminal minds? criminal minds is a way better show then bones thats for sure, but that episode was just on sunday so i see why bones got higher ratings. nice to see "Knights of prosperity" getting low numbers, i watched that show on the timeshift channel and it was not that great (bias-i hate most abc comedies, there just not that good-slapped together gargbage) i watched a half decent episode of george lopez before that. it wasn't that good either but better than "Knights".

9-10pm (8-9pm):
nice to see the new episode of criminal minds get high ratings. also nice to see american idol get a bit lower ratings, maybe people are finally seeing the light and won't watch that garbage. finally nice to see that other piece of garbage-deal or no deal get beat.

10-11pm (9-10pm):
wow milestone for csi: ny. i like both csi: ny & lost so it didn't really matter to me. lost was such a hit during season 1 now it just seems like a "oh its back, nice to see" not "yea" at this point-and i know all the lost fans are going to get mad that i said that. losts episode last nite was a good one through and im glad theres going to be no repeats for the next 15 weeks.
csi: ny was decent last nite as well- i can't stand nelly retarded and shes going to be hosting the junos here in canada.

Shows by 18-49 Demo
nice to see lost & criminal minds in the top 3. good to see "one tree garbage" in last place.

WINNERS:
nice to see criminal minds in the winners section. everyone knows that i think american idol is garbage and i could care less about bones.

LOSERS:
i don't like knights, medium or FNL- so its nice to see them all in the losers section.

HONORABLE MENTION:
lost and csi: ny were the top three shows of the night in my opinion with criminal minds.

The reason AI got lower ratings was because it wasn't like the previous airings. It wasn't exactly a repeat, but it wasn't like new new. It was just showing the singers who got cut out the last time around. Anyways, I'm almost positive the ratings will be above 30m once the competition begins.

BTW, the winners/losers section isn't my opinion on whether the show's ep was good or bad, just whether the ratings were good or not. Even though CM's numbers were on par with previous eps (IIRC), but to do it against (an albeit weaker) American Idol and the Lost recap, that's pretty impressive.

I too like CM (just got into it) but this two-parter wasn't very good by comparison to the one's I saw earlier.

DISHONORABLE MENTION
Men in Trees (ABC), The O.C. (FOX)

I've added a dishonorable mention category for shows that weren't exactly losers but didn't perform well either. Now, the reason I have Men in Trees in there is for its consistent 50% fall in viewers out of Grey's Anatomy whereas Shark only fell 35% and ER actually grew out of 30 Rock... I wouldn't expect MIT to be at the same level as GA but it should be at around 15-17m with that kind of lead-in.

LorenzoL 02-09-07 03:25 PM

Those are not good numbers for Supernatural and 30 Rock. Come on people, you need to be watching both shows!

GradVT06 02-09-07 03:37 PM

Glad to see Shark up near 15m. I found this show last month and have enjoyed every episode since!

nateman 02-09-07 10:52 PM

8-9pm (7-8pm):
nice to see ugly garbage get beatin by survivor: figi- it wasn't the best survivor premiere, the people this season arn't very intresting exept for "Dreamz" and the guy from minnesota who wasn't shown that much. i wish my name is earl was in the #2 spot instead of ugly garbage because its a quality show along with the office. earl was good last night.
the war at home and til death are doing really bad, they will probally be gone by the end of may. nice to see the cw in last as always.

9-10pm (8-9pm):
damn it more people are watching greys garbage over csi. i am not a huge fan of csi but it was a really good episode last night, any csi episode is better than garbage anatomy. i would like to see my favorite show scrubs and the decent 30 rock be in the #2 spot over both those shows. scrubs can pull off both comedy and drama better than both csi & greys combined in my opinion.

10-11pm (9-10pm):
i would have liked to have seen men in trees in the #2 spot and er in #1 spot cause there both better than shark. i don't hate shark its just that kind of show has been done to death. a lot of the audience probally has to do with csi being on before that, through men in trees is on after greys anatomy and its the lowest rated show of this timeslot so i guess it has nothing to do with that. i guess people like safe shows. james woods is a good actor and alot of people like him so that probally has alot to do with it.

Shows by 18-49 Demo
stupid greys garbage in 1st.

WINNERS
good to csi & survivor in the winner section but not greys garbage.

LOSERS
i dont like to see 30 rock in the losers section, supernatural deserves to be here through.

HONORABLE MENTION
er, earl, office & shark deserve mention but ugly betty doesn't deserve any mention. scrubs deserves mention cause it a great show and i hope more people watch it.

DISHONORABLE MENTION
men in trees doesn't deserve a dis-mention but the O.C does.

Deftones 02-09-07 10:57 PM

I'm shocked at how Earl still consistently beats The Office. Seems like a show about rednecks only caters to one part of the country, where as The Office is a show everyone can seemingly relate to.
