ROME Begins Production of second season

HBO's epic drama series ROMESM has begun production on its ten-episode second season, it was announced by Carolyn Strauss, president, HBO Entertainment. Filming of the new episodes will continue at Rome's Cinecitta Studios through next October, with debut set for 2007.

"This exciting series offers a spectacle unlike anything else on TV," noted Strauss. "The new episodes of ROME will go deeper into the intriguing characters and provocative storylines that made the first season a hit with critics and subscribers."

Chronicling the fall of a republic and the rise of an empire, the first season of ROME wrapped last December. TV Guide hailed it as a "feast for the eyes" and a "ripping good story," as well as a "shamelessly enjoyable historical romp," while the Washington Post described the series as "ravishing and wickedly shocking," and "a feast for the senses that includes generous portions of food for thought." In addition, ROME received two Golden GlobeŽ nominations: Best Television Series - Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama (Polly Walker).

I've only seen the pilot episode, but look forward to watching the rest once season 1 is out on DVD. I, for one, hope they give us more of the exciting adventures of "Julius" in the second season!

10? is this UK only cause didnt they get 10 only?

And Lucious and Titus better be coming back. They made the show!

kvrdave 04-28-06 02:22 PM

"Guilty pleasure" is a very apt description of this show. Glad it will be back.

Is this worth watching? I now have HBO but didn't when this originally aired... Hopefully HBO will offer the first season On Demand though.

What the hell would make you feel guilty about watching one of the best shows on TV?

Charlie Goose 04-28-06 02:58 PM

Not as good as Deadwood, but still very well done and enjoyable.

I am stoked.

My favorite show of 2005.

Geofferson 04-28-06 05:01 PM

I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed season 1. Can't wait for the sophomore season.

MEJHarrison 04-28-06 07:10 PM

I was very surprised with how little I enjoyed season 1. But I'll still check out the sophomore season.

Seriously. It didn't do much for me. At least not compared to most HBO dramas. But I still tuned in every week for some odd reason and probably will again this year. I'm not saying it was bad, just that I didn't get as excited about it as I do for Deadwood, Oz, Six Feet Under, Big Love, etc.

I would assume so, since they were the main characters of the series.

I really enjoyed Rome and look forward to it's return, though obviously it'll be harder for the writers to root the drama against the historical background of the era now with the Caesar saga concluded.

Two years between seasons?! And I thought The Sopranos was bad at overly long breaks!! (But it at least reminds me of one of the two main reasons why I don't get HBO anymore. The other is lack of OAR.)

Anyway, when is the first season of ROME coming out on DVD? (My now preferred way of watching HBO series ;) )

Darkfriend 04-29-06 02:38 PM

Yay! Can't wait to see what Pullo and Vorenus get themselves into

You would rather wait longer for the DVD's to come out?

Great news. I enjoyed this show very much in its first season and can't wait to see S2.

Yes, because it's a lot cheaper that way. Otherwise, it's paying for 2+ years of HBO just to see 20 hours of programming.

I loved Season one, it'll be interesting to see what they have in store for Octavian in the coming season.

I am looking forward to it, too. I think Season 2 is really going start building on Octavian more.

I loved season 1, but felt they rushed it. The Egypt episode should have been broken into two separate episodes.

I would have loved to have seen the Roman Legions run roughshod over Ptolemy's troops.

The actor playing Julius Caesar is one of those guys I've seen before but never really remembered. Rome changed that.

I was delighted to see him in Munich, which he was great in.

Yea but cinsidering how they skipped years so freely, they may start S2 with Augustus at 30 with Titus and VOrenus as old men; maybe dead.

The biggest drawback for this show was NO war; that pissed me off alot. Hopefully season 2 will have that.

Red Dog 05-02-06 08:13 PM

That's good news.

TyroneJordan 05-02-06 09:45 PM

Dunno, personally the show kind of let me down.
