2 recap episodes in 1 season. An all-time low for television.

Cusm 04-26-06 08:39 AM

Is this a clip show with little to NO new footage? They need to show a damn clip show everytime there is a new episode since it is so long between new episodes. Kinda odd to show it now as we have seen about 4 new episodes in the last 6 or 7 weeks.

Josh-da-man 04-26-06 09:35 AM

Enough with the muh-fuggin' clip shows, already.

Jesus, Saturday Night Live is going to do a lame sketch about them if they're not careful.

Before next season starts, maybe they'll show a clip show that condenses the previous clip shows.

Groucho 04-26-06 09:38 AM

What the fuck? This isn't Family Ties.

Chew 04-26-06 09:42 AM

If the show producers get their wish and the season is broken up into 7-7-8: We might get three clip shows next season.

superdeluxe 04-26-06 09:58 AM

A clip show..after a week hiatus..and before that..1 minute of actual story progression, and 55 minutes of back story.

ugh. I am done with lost.

GuessWho 04-26-06 10:14 AM

I don't see the big deal.

The fact is, we're getting 22 new episodes a year.

Whether they stretch that out with reruns, or clip shows, or Paper Mache with Celebrities, it doesn't matter.

We're still getting 22 episodes.

cdollaz 04-26-06 10:21 AM

There were 25 episodes the first season.

Tracer Bullet 04-26-06 10:30 AM

So this can be skipped with no repercussions?

nevermind 04-26-06 10:32 AM

Yeah fuck it. Hard Drive space is precious to me on my HD-DVR. Not even gonna bother.

Amen.

Also, cdollaz, we're actually getting the same number of episodes this year as last year. Last year was actually 24 and this year is 23. The only reason they had the extra last year is because the pilot was cut in half.

cdollaz 04-26-06 10:37 AM

Regardless, each year we are getting less shows. That's shit.

Phil L. 04-26-06 10:46 AM

So just to be sure...tonight's episode has no new content at all?

I'm not sure how we would know, from what I've read it says that it's all recaps. But I always like watching the recap shows since whatever they focus on will be the focus for the final stretch of shows. But with these guys you never know, there could be one new frame somewhere in this planted so we would talk about it until next week's new ep.

It does matter, Because there are so many frigging story lines, and they skip around so frigging much, its tiresome.

Just do it like 24, and play them back to back.

GuessWho 04-26-06 11:00 AM

Back to back would make a 6-7 month hiatus instead of a 3-4 month hiatus.

If you have trouble remembering multiple storylines, won't you retain more over 3 months instead of 6?!?

24's seasons are much more isolated and don't carryover storylines like Lost. You don't need to retain knowledge over a long break. You're comparing apples to oranges.

TheGodfather 04-26-06 11:13 AM

SHOCKER  :

A LOST thread where posters are debating the scheduling of the show!!!!!

I never thought I'd see the day.

The show's scheduling is this season's rant flavor the way the "They don't answer enough questions" rant was last season's.

Enjoy!

I would prefer this to the current 5-4-3-2-1-4-5 of this season.

Jimmy James 04-26-06 11:55 AM

I think 11-11 would be ideal, but I'm not one to complain about this issue most of the time. In fact, the only show that has really thrown me with its scheduling this year is Everybody Hates Chris, not LOST.

raven56706 04-26-06 12:06 PM

isnt this the episode where Lana gets in a car crash and .... wait a minute.... sorry... Wrong Reckoning show... rotfl

edstein 04-26-06 12:08 PM

Looks like Ana Lucia and Libby were tipping the sauce too much. And Ana did a week in Jail for it.

With all the fuss about scheduling, I took a couple minutes to compare Lost's air dates to those of 2 very popular shows on other networks. While I admit that the scheduling drives me nuts with Lost, I'm thinking it's because I'm used to watching cable series that just air their episodes back to back. Without cheating, see if you can guess which of these is Lost, based on how this season has aired, up through this week:

1. 3 episodes - 4 weeks off - 5 episodes - 1 weeks off - 1 episode - 3 weeks off - 1 episode - 3 weeks off - 3 episodes - 1 weeks off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 5 episodes

2. 5 episodes - 1 week off - 4 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode - 3 weeks off - 1 episode - 1 week off - 4 episodes - 2 weeks off - 2 episodes - 2 weeks off - 3 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode

3. 5 episodes - 2 weeks off - 4 episodes - 5 weeks off - 3 episodes - 1 week off - 2 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 4 episodes - 2 weeks off

Spoiler:
1. House
2. CSI
3. Lost

I hate this scheduling for any show, I still think ER is the worst, but with a show like Lost, long waits will kill the audiance and it is hell to watch as a fan. I wish all shows would run either straight through (my favorite) like 24, The Shield (or any fx show) or HBO shows, or split in half like USA and Sci-Fi shows.

riley_dude 04-26-06 01:50 PM

The critic in the San Francisco Chronicle made a comment this morning about it being another Clip show. He was not happy.
I'm surprised this hasn't lost more viewers over the season kinda like Commander in Chief.

They still dont answer enough questions this season. How far has the story advanced this season?

RichC2 04-26-06 02:00 PM

The problem with Lost being broken up is that it's a serial. House and CSI, for instance, and highly episodic (though House has background stories going on, they rarely take the foreground). Lost, on the other hand, it's way more annoying since theres really very little closure in every episode.

It needs to just go on like 24, dammit. :) (4 eps - 1 ep - 1 ep - 1 ep- 1 ep - 1 ep - 1 ep - 2 eps - 1 ep... so on and so forth)

ABC is destroying its new found life. And this is almost the lineup it should have been from the get go (8p Alias, 9p Lost, 10p Invasion).

das Monkey 04-26-06 02:01 PM

Fucking ABC. So this is, what, 6 clip shows for their 3 major series in under 4 months?

das

DVD Josh 04-26-06 02:39 PM

I'm finding it humorous how you people are more upset that it's a clip show than you would be if it were a repeat!

It's because it just shows that they know the scheduling is lame for a serial show.

They know they show it so fucking sporadically that they have to have a couple clip shows per season so people know what the fucks going on when it comes back.

GuessWho 04-26-06 03:17 PM

How far has the story advanced this season?
Quite a bit, I think.

...there were no tailies
...the hatch was just a door in the dirt
...the others were just a few pirates we saw on a boat once

Everything we know about the above came from this season

Comparing Lost to House or CSI is pretty stupid, as there are hardly any long-term storylines in House and CSI, whereas Lost is all about the long storylines.

The problem is (with the exception of the others) most of those revelations were in the premiere or the first 2 or 3 episodes.

And all together probably 4 or 5 eps have answered those questions, while the rest have just stalled.

I think it's a nasty tactic. It is pretty much a wash for the casual viewer. Some people will be happy they can get caught up quickly. Others will be upset that they remembered to tune in and got this.

It's the hardcore fan these things screw. Many will feel the need to watch to see if the arrangement of the clips hold some sort of clue to where we're going. Others will suspect they'll show us something very important.

As for me, I plan on recording and then reading anything I see online that evaulates the importance of the clip show. If it's just stuff I have seen, I'll kill it without watching.

Repeats don't clutter up my Tivo.

And just like you tell your TIVO not to tape repeats, so can you not this episode.

I thought the clip show was interesting in it's reach (from day one on). It's clear what the producers want us to concentrate on - faith vs. science. That will be the central theme for the remainder of the season.

The Antipodean 04-26-06 11:03 PM

Fucking ripoff episode. And the TV guide claimed it was "New." Hah!

Mok 04-27-06 12:08 AM

I hated the fact it was a clip show, but I must say if it wasn't for a clip show I would never have caught on to Lost. So chalk up as a show for the new viewers. Off to watch Bones.

It's losing viewers...

New Lost Hits New Low
Wednesday's installment of Lost — unofficially titled "The One with Rose, Bernard and Three Minutes of Actual Story Progression" — drew 15.7 million total viewers, the series' lowest ratings for a new episode this season. Electromagnetic impulses can't heal wounded Nielsens?

Definitely agree. Though, Lost is all about long storylines that demand you pay attention to the little nuances to fully enjoy the show (or at the very least, read the threads here ;)).
