24 - Is the actor playing Pres. Logan a great actor or horrible?

Every episode of 24, I ask myself the same question "Is the actor playing Pres. Logan doing an amazing job that is almost Emmy worthy or does he just stink".. At the beginning of the season, he played such a spineless, annoying character that I really hated him.. Now that he is showing a spine, he is playing that really well.

I think he's a really good actor. Any inconsistency in his performance is due to the writers, not him, IMO.

Well, considering the producers didn't let him on on the big reveal, perhaps they were scared that he would play Logan less weak than he actually played him in the first half day of the season.

They mention (and show pics in the latest edition of EW) some of the roles he is played and he is quite versatile.
I remember him on a Firefly episode and he was completely different in that.
I think he is doing a great job.

Yeah, he was great in Teen Wolf.

He's a better actor than that bitch that plays Chloe. She couldn't act her way out of a box.

You state that you hate the character for being spineless and annoying. That tells me his acting got a serious reaction out of you. That can only mean the actor is doing a damn good job in portraying the character.

Give him an Emmy! I love the way he plays President Logan. Even moreso now that we know he isn't totally spineless!

Exactly what I was going to post. An actor is only as good as his material

So, if his transformation from a spineless wimp to a ruthless oil baron seemed a little out of place, blame the writers. He is doing a great job and will hopefully get an Emmy nomination!

I can't think of anyone this year who deserves to win an Emmy more than he does.

But the producers/director can give a general idea of how they want the character played whether or not he is in on the reveal. They could have easily said "we've had a strong president, we want to go the opposite direction with Logan. We need you to be timid and act like you are uncofortable being the president, almost a push-over to your cabinet."

From what I read in some magazine on a newstand. The writers did Not know they were going this way and decided to make the President bad way into the season.

I wonder about this, since the 'big reveal' was that his character was actually the person behind all of this (or is he? )

I read in an article that they decided on that back in October(although Gregory Itzin was not informed at the time). That means they were at least 1/3 of the way through filming the season at that point.

Exactly! I go with "give him an Emmy" too. Even more so given the shift in character (going from spineless to big bad), and selling it to the audience as well as he does.

I thought he has been great the entire season, including when he seemed spineless. He has inhabited the character extremely well.

I voted for an Emmy for Itzin also. Ever since his first appearance last(?)season, his character has bugged the hell out of me. And just because he's been revealed as the villian hasn't proven him to be any less of a spineless idiot, just sneakier.

Emmy, definitely. Check out his IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0411857/

Has anyone ever been in so many shows? Amazing.

It was funny seeing him in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas after watching him on 24.
