I concur 100%. And Comedy Central certainly will air all the produced episodes without cancelling it. It seems they never pull the plug on a show until its season is over.

Heck they're recooping their investment in The Chappelle Show by airing the skits from season 3 they were able to cull into 3 episodes in July and puming them out to DVD.

The only thing I am sure of (and know for a fact) is that Comedy Central is notoriously cheap. Futurama is expensive even for major networks - I just don't buy that CC will shell out the dough required for it's production.

Yes it was. I remember working Tuesday nights back in 1999 and having my mom record the show. It aired in the same night as "Family Guy" and the short lived "PJ's" show.

FOX then came up with some shit about how they "didnt want thier network to be filled with cartoons" and that is when it switched to Sunday nights.

Unless they aired it on a different day in your area, but here it started out on Tuesdays nights.

Futurama used to be expensive, even for major networks. But it was expensive because of the computer shots. Those can probably be done a lot cheaper now than they could three years ago.

Very good news! Long live Robot Devil and the Hypnotoad!

Imagine a two-hour block of Daily Show/Colbert/South Park/Futurama. Unbeatable.

Oh, in case no one's seen it yet, here is actual NEW Futurama footage... well, it' really just a trailer for Al Gore's movie, but still, it's written/produced by the usual Futurama gang, and it's pretty funny.

Another confirmation of this story...

It's Official: Futurama Returns!
Fry and the gang will be back for at least 13 new episodes on Comedy Central.
by Eric Goldman

June 23, 2006 - Futurama fans can finally celebrate, as a long rumored revival of the series is going forward. For several months now there had been word that the show -- which ran on FOX from 1999 to 2003 -- could be coming back, particularly after the return of animated favorite Family Guy and a last minute renewal/return of King of the Hill seemed to prove there was an increasing confidence in the overall fandom and long term prospects for series of this type. Earlier this year, Futurama voice actor Billy West actually stated on his website that the show's return was a done deal, only to recant the statement. However, he did continue to say something was in the works, whether it be more episodes or direct-to-DVD movies.

Now we have official and definite word the show itself will be returning, with 13 brand new episodes set to air on Comedy Central. Like Family Guy, Futurama proved its popularity and earned its return thanks both to DVDs and also to repeats on Cartoon Network. Apparently there had been some negotiations needed in order to secure the return of the cast, but that is now resolved and all of the major voice over talent, including West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio will return to tell new tales about Fry, a pizza delivery boy who ends up 1000 years in the future.

The deal to produce new episodes of Futurama goes in tandem with Comedy Central's acquisition of the 72 previously produced Futurama episodes, after Cartoon Network's current deal ends. Fans shouldn't exactly hold their breath in anticipation, since Comedy Central will not be airing either the old or any of the new episodes until 2008.

I hope they go a different way then they were going in the 4th season. Some episodes were downright sad while the romance between Leela and Fry was too sappy.

But other than that, I'm glad it's back.

"Jurassic Bark" was one of the most saddest and heartbreaking episodes that I ever seen on TV.

I still can't watch "Jurassic Bark". I can't even watch it with the commentary.

The ending gets to me that much.

"The Sting" is still a great episode, sappy or not.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. "Jurrasic Bark" is just too awesome. The show can bring on the funny AND still do fantasic episodes like that too.

I still thought Bender was hilarious in "Jurrasic Bark" even if I do still cry at the end.

"The Luck of the Fryrish" is pretty sad either.

The Sting is like one of the great classic episodes of The Twilight Zone and also reminds me a bit of Solaris.

Great news about the eps, too bad about the wait.

The "Jurassic Bark" episode just confirmed me of Futurama's greatness. The fact that it can be so funny, yet have such a heart (even if it does make you sad). It's like how The Simpsons used to be.

I can barely stand to watch that episode because I know how it ends.

It's the perfect episode to show people who don't believe that cartoons can be thought out and important.

UP CLOSE: DAVID X. COHEN
The 'Futurama' co-creator talks exclusively to Toyfare about the long-awaited new season...
By Justin Aclin

Posted December 12, 2006 12:00 PM

It’s the good news everyone has been waiting for! A new season of "Futurama"—the brilliant, animated sci-fi comedy from "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and executive producer David X. Cohen—is finally being produced for a 2008 release.

It’s still not determined whether the new episodes will debut on Comedy Central or DVD, but we’re too excited to care! We pinned down Cohen to get the skinny on what we can expect when "Futurama" reawakens from its cryo-sleep.

ToyFare: So where are you right now in the production of the new season?

DAVID X. COHEN: We’re about halfway through the writing, but just getting started on the animation. One big decision we have not yet made is how, once again, to “end” the series—hopefully not for the last time.

How long after the last “series finale” does the new season take place? And what can we expect for the Fry and Leela relationship?

COHEN: When our story resumes, two long years have passed. As for the Fry/Leela relationship, we will be visiting that subject right away, so I refuse to tell you where it will lead on the grounds that I want you to buy the DVD.

How much continuity will the new season feature?

COHEN: Within the new season, we will definitely feature more continuity than in the past. We will also be shedding light on several lingering questions from the original run, including hitherto unknown facts about Nibbler, dark matter and Seymour the dog. By the way, that was my first use of the word “hitherto” in an interview. I think it went well.

[Laughs] Nice. How much of the original cast and crew were you able to put together?

COHEN: We have the entire cast back, as well as a good chunk of the writing staff. We also have Rough Draft Studios animating once again, and they seem determined to top even their own amazing work from the first time around. To complete the reunion of our original crack team, it looks like we will also have Chris Tyng back to work his magic on the musical score.

Are there any guest voices lined up yet?

COHEN: We will have a number, yes, but I can only officially report on the one we have already recorded—up-and-coming voice-over star Al Gore. For the first time, we are going to show what really determined the outcome of the 2000 Presidential election.

Toynami’s going to be making new Futurama toys—are you into the toys at all?

COHEN: I think I have every Futurama toy legally produced so far. I loved their I-Men [block figures]... It’s especially fun for me to see toys based on side characters like Calculon and Roberto. Personally, although I think I speak for millions, I would like to see toys of Hypnotoad, Slurms McKenzie and Hedonismbot. Also, I’d like Fry, Leela and Bender in their superhero forms: Captain Yesterday, Clobberella and SuperKing.

Are there any new characters being introduced in the new season that you’re excited about?

COHEN: Yes, particularly Nudar, the evil alien nudist. We’re not sure what the censorship issues are as far as showing unrecognizable alien reproductive organs. I guess we’ll just put it on the air and see what happens.

Well, until Nudar debuts, who’s your favorite minor character on the show?

COHEN: Hypnotoad. By the way, we are looking into producing a full 22-minute episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad for the DVD release. I am serious.

Great to see how far along they are.

I really hope they give the Seymour storyline a happier ending (maybe re-animating him) since the end of Jurrasic Bark is so damn depressing.
