I think this show is just emphasizing the inventor way too much. While it's nice to hear a good sob story every once in a while, that really has no bearing in regards to the quality of the invention.

Plus, I realize that they want to be able to sell something at the end of this program, but I think they are focusing too much on products and not enough on inventions, if that makes any sense. For instance, the multicultural doll or the candy house kit are good ideas, but they aren't inventions, they're just ready-to-sell products.

This show has gone from bad to worse. It is unwatchable for me, and that is saying a lot because I will watch damn near any reality show to the bitter end that I start watching no matter how insipid it becomes...until now. Hell, I'm still watching "Unanimous" if that puts it in enough perspective for you.

"Made in the USA" was really a much better execution of this idea.

What they did was every week put the contestants through a different challenge, such as a focus group, or testing, or marketing, etc. All things to help improve their product and get it to the next level. One person would go home each week, untilt hey got to the last few people and they did a live pitch/demo on QVC or something.

This repeating the story over and over and not showing anything new about the inventions just sucks. It would be like American Idol just having Kellie Pickler talk about her dad being in prison every week.

What's a ballsy?

I'm hoping that showing the process of making prototypes and developing the products will be interesting. Personally, reality TV or not, I am curious to see the different ways they go about doing that. But yeah, this show is bad.

I repeat, Word Ace made the final 12.

Enough said.

The Tonerbelt is silly.

The restroom door clip is actually a decent idea though not sure how many would sell.

The Niya doll is silly.

Not sure about Word Ace. Seemed like something you could play without the machine, but need to know more about it.

The Spherical Safety Seat it an interesting idea, but would need a gyroscope or something to keep the kid from doing 360's when the car made a turn. Too expensive, bulky.

Sackmaster 2000 is a good one. They need to market it is all-inclusive, not just something for filling sandbags because, well, who the fuck fills sandbags. Would be good for leaves, dirt, etc. in the garden.

Un-brella is good if they can create something that isn't as flimsy as the prototype and that is foldable.

The double-traction bike I'm not sure about. Do kids really want to ride like this? I would assume they would want their own bike.

The Headliner. I personally see no use for it but maybe those who wear wigs, helmets, etc. would.

Flushpure. I'm not really sure what this is supposed to do as they didn't really say much about it.

Receiver's training pole. "Coach E" is annoying and I want him to lose just so I do not have to hear him say "baby" again. Seems like an OK idea although I'm not sure how many you could move.

EZ-X gym. Interesting idea and fitness gimmicks seem to do well. If he can show that the stuff is quality and not crappy, it may have a chance.

For me the winner is the shovel. It's feasible, useful, marketable (like you said, leaves and stuff) and it can still be attached to a weepy story. In concept the winner for me is the baby car seat but I think it's far more ambitious than this show is prepared to take on. $50,000 to develop and test it? Try $5 million!

I also don't get how Niya and Word Ace are inventions. They really glossed over how Word Ace works. We have no clue what it does. And Niya is just a doll, no different from hundreds of other dolls.

For the final twelve...

I agree that Niya and Word Ace are not inventions. Word Ace has more potential of the two, simply because the idea is self-contained. Niya needs a back story to sell, and frankly I don't see how it is much different than those Dora the Explorer dolls out there. Okay, so it speaks an additional language... which reminds me of the seven-minute abs conversation in There's Something About Mary, or the SNL 5-blade razor parody commerical.

The receiver's pole, the headliner, and the sandbagger would all be niche products. Neither is somethign that's going to be in alot of households. That's not to say they won't be successful in that regard.

I missed the episode where they showed off the tonerbelt and the Flushpure, so I'm not 100% what either of those do.

The door clip and the EZ-X gym are both great "as seen on tv" products. I think they could both sell well in that regard. But they are both gimmicky type products. I mean, a "chip clip" (that they use on bags of potato chips) would probably work just as well on a bathroom door.

The un-brella may fall into that categoy, too, but if they can get it nice enough quality-wise I could see it becoming a legitimate alternative for an umbrella.

The bike is interesting, but who is really going to buy one? If you are really planning on having an extra passenger that often you might as well buy a tandem bike.

Finally, the car seat... if, IF that thing really does what he says it does, it's found to be safe otherwise, and it can produced at a reasonable cost, then that should be the winner.

I sort of liked the idea of this show the first time I watched it. I could get through some of the stupid comments by the judges because it's fun seeing what ideas people come up with. Since then I think this show is gawd-awful. Who can cry the most? There's your winner!

The first hour was just a re-tread and seeing the same stuff for the 3rd time was useless, especially the paper sheet lady. If they were going to show something again I would have preferred to see the bear stick, I mean wand. The second hour was interesting as it showed them further developing their product.

I think the Sackmaster guy would have moved on if he wasn't so stubborn and arrogant. No one wants a shovel that fills sandbags, other than maybe a few emergency workers. Pull your head out of your ass. It should be marketed to people who garden and similar. You aren't going to saves millions of lives. Get over it. One of the ladies in the focus group mentioned it could be used for leaves, and he shook his head when she said it. Only spending 2/5 of the money and using it to buy a suit and get a massage was idiotic. He got what he deserved.

I still think the umbrella is pretty good if she could have made it work a little better but I do not see how they could have made any more compact than it already was.

Football guy is annoying but he came throught the most last night and deserved to go on to the next round. Still can't see a large market for his item.

Show is interesting again in parts, but it's still really sappy and too long.

I admit I like that they broke them into groups of three, and are limiting the audience vote until the end. I initially didn't get how it would work to keep showing the same inventions each week, but this idea makes sense.

The trainer guy deserved to win here. Granted his product isn't going to be a mass seller, but I think it is something that can be a legitimate product in sporting goods stores and whatnot. I can see high schools buying these for training and whatnot, although I doubt every football playing kid is going to necessarily buy one for himself. But there is a market.

The shovel guy was too self-righteous. Considering that Gobagger thing posted above is already out there, it takes away from the novelty of the Sackmaster (although I think the Sackmaster appears to be a better version of that concept).

The un-brella is still a good idea in theory, but so is a time machine. If you can't get the thing down to a manageable size it's pointless. Nobody is going to want to carry an umbrella the size of a baseball bat around, unless they want it double as a defense item. Come to think of it, maybe she should have pitched that angle... "No rain, no pain!"

Next week it appears to be
Spoiler:
Niya vs the portable gym vs the bike. I just hope anything but Niya wins... but it'll be the woman judge deciding so who knows...

Do we know if these people can still take their idea and have someone else help them with their invention? I'm curious what kind of rules the show has placed on people sent home.

because, IMO, this whole thing is about the SHOW, not the product.

abc doesnt give a shit about some crappy invention that they can mass produce and sell at walmarts. this is about creating a SHOW that people like, and thats where they make millions.

so instead of going after the best products, they go after the best people and stories - thatll sell more in the end.

i compare it to the apprentice - donald trump makes this show looking for the next brilliant guy to work for him. yeah, right. he created the show FOR THE SHOW itself. the show is his product. he could give a shit about giving a guy a nice 6 figure salary and let him run around doing some crap job supervised by people he trusts. in exchange he created a hit show and makes 10 times that guys salary and it goes into trumps pocket. hence, he doesnt have to keep the most qualified people - just those who make the best TV. the show is the product.

In the "there are no new ideas" category, here's a 1916 Patent form I saw on another TV message board:

I was wondering the same thing, like if they were able to use part of the money to purchase a patent or something. There are a couple of ideas (I would have said like the Sackmaster but I guess it's already being made) that I can see actually being made despite the show not choosing them. I would hate to see an in-brella or un-brella, whatever we're calling it now, in stores next year and find out that woman isn't profiting in anyway, unless of course someone already had that patent.

Tough decision this past week. They all had done pretty will with the $ they were given. I am so glad Niya is gone. That damn song is still in my head. I still think the portable gym would sell the most via infomercial, but the bike thing turned out alright. Not sure who would buy it though.
