How William Shatner Changed The World - Discovery Channel

Did anyone watch this? It was excellent. Shatner was entertaining and the interviews, etc. were great. Surprised we had no thread. I did the search.

Perhaps I am the only person to see it.

I recorded it, but have yet to see it. Given all I have to watch, it might be a weekend project.

I know *my* world has never been the same -- since stabbing my ears with a pencil while listening to Mr. Tamborine Man.

Actually, it was a misleading title. But they do show how the cell phone, personal computer, ipod, even some things used by NASA all trace back to star trek and talk to the people that invented it to verify it. Basically Trek came up with cool items and then nerds tried (and did) make them a reality. But most amusing is the many many cut scenes to Trek. It was very much like an episode of Dream On from HBO.

On the Discovery Channel? Is this in Canada? (I'm asking because it was - and will be again - on the History Channel in the U.S.)

Sounds like a rip of Discovery Channel's "The Science of Star Wars" from a few months ago in which comparisons were made with SW technology to today's technology

I saw some of it was good. The end was funny as it bashed all the post TNG series.

I know he has a reputation of having a huge ego. Not quite sure how much of that was acting or his ego but damn was it entertaining. Couldn't say how many times I burst out laughing. I'll take Shatner over any of the other Trek-turned-narator actors anyday.

The only bad part was no Marina Sirtis or Gates McFadden cameo. We get Frakes brushing his teeth but no Sirtis eating a muffin?

Over here in South Korea this was called "How Techies Changed the World." Not Trekies, but Techies. I thought I heard the title wrong when the commercial came on, but sure enough, it was Techies. I like the title "How William Shatner Changed the World" better, it fit the tone of the narration much better.

It really was a great show. Extremely entertaining and informative.
