Although I did lose a friend to this glorified "cult" when his father essentially blackmailed him into going to BYU or he would be expunged from the family. My friend was whisked away literally minutes after our high school graduation and returned 4 years later, a white-bread zombie, with a thousand yard stare, a permanently "happy" smirk and able only to repeat variations on one theme when you spoke to him: "What's your five-year plan? Where do you see yourself in five years? But five years from now, where will you be?"
Fucking creepy.

I think what this show REALLY needs is more 'Veronica Mars' cast members in it. Two just ain't enough for me.

I thought this was a pretty good first ep. I think it has a lot of potential. I ended up loving Rome, but the first few episodes of that left me a little cold. So I'm prepared for another HBO show to slowly draw me in.
If nothing else, you have gotta love this show at least a little because its storyline is something that probably no other network would even consider tackling. So thumbs up to HBO for at least giving us something that is a little different than all other offerings.

That was like watching a nightmare. I can't imagine being married, let alone to 3 women.
That one scene with the youngest wife dealing with the one kid pissing on the floor, the other eating mayo
, and the other running around, would have made me shoot myself.
What the fuck did he ever see in the 2nd wife? She sees him as a wallet.
As for the show, I don't know. It had that Six Feet Under feel to it. I'm worried I'll watch the 1st season, say meh, then wonder why it gets a bunch of accolades from Emmy voters.

Off topic: I looked up this place called Hildale, Utah and there really are polygamists living there. Pretty interesting and weird stuff.

That would make sense. Would be consistent with her spoiled girl persona. Otherwise, I can't see why on earth he would marry her.

Actually, with the right writers, this show could go somewhere. Here's hoping. Great cast!

In the hospital, he mantioned 'the clans' and 'feuds'...plus with him trying to screw the cult leader out of money, this could get real interesting

Well it certainly hasnt shot up to the top of my list of TV shows but I try not to judge a series on the first episode alone. Hopefully by ep 3 it'll have me hooked. If not I'll prolly be ready to drop it.
And like dvd182 said Bill Paxton most likely married #2 so her father would stake his business.

Am I the only one who thinks Napoleon Dynamite's gf wants Amanda Seyfried (Sarah) for more than just a friend?

This could get interesting if only from this aspect as the Prophet has clearly be preaching against materialism yet is going to get into a legal entanglement with Bill over the "franchise" escape plan he used to keep all the money from the second store to himself/in his family. Technically the Prophet would never know if Bill was giving the "church" their full 15% as the franchise would be out of his supervision.
It seems like Bill is angling to set up his own little compound. I'm interested to get the backstories of all the wives (as opposed to the little bit we got about Tripplehorn's battle with cancer).
Was I the only one creeped out by that 14 year-old who was Miss Pretty Princess BITCH because she was the latest addition to the Prophet's harem? How old do you have to be to realize you're only one in a line and after you've pumped out a few babies and are no longer thin, young and pretty, you WILL be supplanted by another younger you? Yuck.
