I have never been that big on Chloe Sevigny, either. She is a decent actor and all, but her looks bother me. Ginnifer Goodwin (Margene), on the other hand, yes please!

Oh, hell no.

Although I did lose a friend to this glorified "cult" when his father essentially blackmailed him into going to BYU or he would be expunged from the family. My friend was whisked away literally minutes after our high school graduation and returned 4 years later, a white-bread zombie, with a thousand yard stare, a permanently "happy" smirk and able only to repeat variations on one theme when you spoke to him: "What's your five-year plan? Where do you see yourself in five years? But five years from now, where will you be?"

Fucking creepy.

not only the viagra, but when he had sex there was no foreplay. right down to business. it was more like a chore for him.

I love Rome. Couldn't get into Carnivale.

I thought this was a pretty good first ep. I think it has a lot of potential. I ended up loving Rome, but the first few episodes of that left me a little cold. So I'm prepared for another HBO show to slowly draw me in.

If nothing else, you have gotta love this show at least a little because its storyline is something that probably no other network would even consider tackling. So thumbs up to HBO for at least giving us something that is a little different than all other offerings.

I agree on Chloe Sevigny. Her looks and talent are nothing special. If I was Bill Paxton, I'd refuse to do any kissing scenes with her for fear of tasting Vincent Gallo's hog.

I would have never had sold my life story to HBO if I knew it would turn out like this!

Geez!!!!! If she hasn't brushed her teeth or used mouthwash since then (what's it been, two years since that scene was filmed?) Gallo's hog would be the LEAST of his worries.

I thought it was ok. I'm not a big Chloe Sevigny either so I hope her part is limited.

Wonder if we'll get a Waterworld reunion with Tripplehorn and Majorino

That was like watching a nightmare. I can't imagine being married, let alone to 3 women. That one scene with the youngest wife dealing with the one kid pissing on the floor, the other eating mayo , and the other running around, would have made me shoot myself.

What the fuck did he ever see in the 2nd wife? She sees him as a wallet.

As for the show, I don't know. It had that Six Feet Under feel to it. I'm worried I'll watch the 1st season, say meh, then wonder why it gets a bunch of accolades from Emmy voters.

I kind a got the idea that she's not some gold digger but thats she a complusive shopper when she started crying after placing that order and having maxed out the other card.

Probably to touch her dad's $$$ for building his store up + the "first wife can't have any more kids" combo.

It's pretty clear the transition from the compound to the material world was a little rough on her. I think she tries to buy all of these things in an attempt to feel like the other wives feel. The first wife gets so much joy out of remodeling the house and buying new drapes, so she does the same (in large volumes) to try to understand it. The same for the sound system she bought for wife #3, she wants to feel the value in giving someone else a material gift. I think she covers this in the talk to her mother, how she feels a lot of it is meaningless and empty.

I think someone said that she was hired to help out the family with the kids and all, but then they decided to bring her in as a 2nd wife because they liked her.

Off topic: I looked up this place called Hildale, Utah and there really are polygamists living there. Pretty interesting and weird stuff.

That would make sense. Would be consistent with her spoiled girl persona. Otherwise, I can't see why on earth he would marry her.

I totally agree. I really enjoyed the pilot. And felt it had a "Six Feet Under" feel to it. But kept thinking "How on earth are they going to stretch this out to be a (possibly) long running series?". I mean, can I really watch 46 kids run around week after week getting ready for school as their moms gives them their lunches? Actually, with the right writers, this show could go somewhere. Here's hoping. Great cast!

The way there setting it up looks like he's trying to 'con' the cult out of money, and he needed the prophet to get the ball rolling

In the hospital, he mantioned 'the clans' and 'feuds'...plus with him trying to screw the cult leader out of money, this could get real interesting

Well it certainly hasnt shot up to the top of my list of TV shows but I try not to judge a series on the first episode alone. Hopefully by ep 3 it'll have me hooked. If not I'll prolly be ready to drop it.

And like dvd182 said Bill Paxton most likely married #2 so her father would stake his business.

I agree.

Am I the only one who thinks Napoleon Dynamite's gf wants Amanda Seyfried (Sarah) for more than just a friend?

I agree with you. That is EXACTLY what I thought about the 15%. Mormons are expected to give 15% of their income to the church ASIDE from any earnings that Bill owes the Prophet from his partial ownership of the first store.

This could get interesting if only from this aspect as the Prophet has clearly be preaching against materialism yet is going to get into a legal entanglement with Bill over the "franchise" escape plan he used to keep all the money from the second store to himself/in his family. Technically the Prophet would never know if Bill was giving the "church" their full 15% as the franchise would be out of his supervision.

It seems like Bill is angling to set up his own little compound. I'm interested to get the backstories of all the wives (as opposed to the little bit we got about Tripplehorn's battle with cancer).

Was I the only one creeped out by that 14 year-old who was Miss Pretty Princess BITCH because she was the latest addition to the Prophet's harem? How old do you have to be to realize you're only one in a line and after you've pumped out a few babies and are no longer thin, young and pretty, you WILL be supplanted by another younger you? Yuck.

Ever since Basic Instinct...I have LOVED Jeanne Tripplehorn. She is so damn hot. Even in my 20's I still want to have sex with her so badly.
