Sci-Fi has a worse history of cancelling sci-fi? Farscape's ratings wouldn't have lasted one episode on broadcast TV. It would have been pulled halfway through the pilot. First Wave would have never even made it on television. Come November, if this comes to pass everyone will be praying BSG's removal from NBC's lineup doesn't spell the death of the show.

I realize it's old news, and that SciFi itself has cancelled fan favorite shows (I could never get into Farscape or the Stargate's personally). I just feel that the old network mentality will in all likelihood still be present at NBC. I mean, BSG isn't a reality show and doesn't have a former cast member from Friends, I'm not too optimistic about it's chances on a mainstream network.

Moving this to NBC would KILL this show. Even if they managed to get the whole viewing audience from Sci-Fi, it would probably get canned as it doesn't get big enough ratings for network . My guess is this show might cost a bit to make and they need an excuse to can it, and keeping it on sci-fi won't be enough, though it worked with FarScape.

See now *I* would watch that. Heck, show a new episode every weekday night at nine instead of repeats (or the daily onslaught of Let's Make a Deal!)! I could see everything from the start and be caught up by the time season 3 airs!

Would anyone who has already seen S1 & S2 rewatch it on NBC as re-runs if it aired in HD?

Side note: do I need to manually set my DVR to record tonight's ep. , or will the season pass I gave this show know not to cut off after an hour despite its extra half hour?

But Sci-Fi is a channel specifically for shows in the science fiction, fantasy realm. When this channel continually cancels fan favorites and IIRC their bigger rating hits, it is not a good sign. Das does not hate Bonnie because she is a proponent of good sci-fi, and knows what it's viewers want to watch.

That said, I do not think it would do well on NBC, and we would be complaining about it getting the axe after one season. I think NBC should move the first run shows to Universal HD (along with Monk) and allow the HD viewers the chance to catch the current season in HD.

What type of DVR do you have? That might answer the question. Most of them are going to know it's scheduled for 90 minutes.

milo, the unfortunate situation with Star Trek was based on the fact that Neilsen Media Services back in the 1960's didn't have the type of demographic breakdown in terms of viewership we have now--it was based on just sheer number of viewers. Small wonder why NBC cancelled the show, based on the Neilsen ratings data available at the time.

If NBC were able to see viewership data based on the changes Neilsen did in the early 1980's with its much more extensive breakdown of viewer demographics back in the 1960's, NBC would not have cancelled Star Trek, because they would have noted the very large number of loyal 18-34 viewers who watched the show regularly. With the updated demographic data, that's why NBC was able to nurture Hill Street Blues into a successful show.

I'm conflicted about this... there are definite pros and cons to it, that's for sure. Like people have said, having NBC broadcast in HD would be excellent, not to mention us up here in Canada would get first run episodes simulcast with the US, not a few months behind. Also, the show could pick up some heat if it was marketed right and they showed a few back episodes leading up to it. I know a lot of people who have heard about BG, they know it's critically acclaimed, but they haven't seen a single episode...if it was on NBC, I'm sure they'd tune in.

Of course, if people don't tune in and NBC were to axe it, we'd be missing out on a lot. On Sci-fi and with the dvd/itunes sales, this show is going to be around for another few seasons at least. If there was a guaranteed "kick back" clause, where if the show failed on NBC it would go right back to Sci-Fi, then I don't see a downside really...but I have no idea how that could be worked into a deal.

Also I worry that they will do the typical network thing and start pumping more money into it once it becomes a network show. Then when it fails on NBC they will have to can it because it is now "too expensive" for cable tv.

Not all of them. I don't get broadcast TV, so if it moved from SciFi to NBC I could/would no longer watch it.

I understand why science fiction fans feel the way they do (as though the network that airs their favorite show is itching to cancel it), but it makes me sad to see it nonetheless.

It seems to imply that the show is just waiting to start in October so they can show it in one shot, and based on how the show ended tonight, it does seem like it will be back on sci-fi channel rather than NBC.

DH says the shows ratings have dropped? With all the buzz it's received!?! huh?

Buzz can go either way, if you want proof just look at Arrested Development. Critically praised but recieved poor ratings half the time.

Maybe Richard Hatch can get his aborted "Galactica: The Next Generation" show on NBC. Then we'll have two BSGs, one with the current continuity and one with the original series continuity.

There seem to be a lot of people who are taking this SPECULATION way too seriously; this is just a few people trying to think above what they think they understand about what is going on inside a huge corporation, but because of the internet, this "news" gets spread around over and over so it starts to sound like fact at some point.

I personally think moving BG to NBC will be a bad move; sure, the fans will follow it wherever it goes, but I really can't see a Primetime NBC audience somehow latching onto this show. Not to sound snobby, but it is too smart and complicated for the people who are tuning in to Law and Order for a quick and easy problem/solution in 44 minutes (I like Law & Order, btw).

Seriously, it's quite possible that NBC may just end up re-broadcasting the Friday night SCI-FI airing of the show on Saturday night. NBC has pretty much given up on Saturday night and could accept a show that just makes it in to the Nielsen weekly top 100 ... as long as the demographics are right. So there you go: When Galactica returns in October you may be able to view the first weekly airing of the show on SCI-FI and then catch it's HD premiere on NBC the following night!

That depends on how fast DirecTV, Dish Network and the cable companies expand HDTV transmission capacity. I wouldn't be surprised that the Sci-Fi Channel goes HDTV within the next 18 months, especially now that DirecTV has begun its long-awaited expansion of HDTV broadcasts over satellite usihg MPEG-4 signal compression.
