New Andy Richter comedy: "Andy Barker P.I."

I had a LOL moment when they were trapped by the chicken plant guy holding a gun on Andy and Lew Staziak (the retired PI) shouts "I'll create a diversion!" and then promptly shoots the guy holding the gun. Then Simon responds, "That'll work."

I really like the original music for this show by Adam Cohen. I'd love to have the soundtrack some day. Reminds me a bit of what J.G. Thirlwell does for the Venture Bros.
I'm enjoying the show. Some of it really cracks me up. Good way to brighten the day.

The Lew/Simon interaction was hilarious, especially in the gym when Simon tells Lew that Andy is afraid of the chicken company, and instead of making fun of Andy, Lew backs him up.
That and "They were into everything. Drugs. Cement. Wigs." followed by the callback later with Andy telling his wife "We're not buying any more chicken. Or cement. Or wigs."

just a little tidbit, but they guy who plays wally used to be the neighbour of Will & Grace on 'Will & Grace'.
In terms of the third episode of the show, it was better then the 'pilot' but about the same level as the second ep.
overall this show focus's on plot to much and not enough on the jokes. I will keep tuning in for my love of Conan O'Brien.
im surprised through that this isn't funnier because Conan is always hilarious 5 nights a week on late night.

Finally got around to catching it today.
I was laughing my ass off at everything that obscurelabel and JasonF mentioned.

I think this show is really good. I think it's going to be more plot and character driven and less "joke" driven, which is fine. I'm pretty sick of laugh-track comedies and jokes every thirty seconds. I really think that the idea of this noir world running into this character's suburban existence is a terrific concept. I'd have liked to see it skew darker, with the Andy character having difficulty adapting and being less successful as a P.I. But as it is, the concept is as promising as "My Name is Earl," and it shows the same promise for character driven humor.
The reviews have been very favorable, so hopefully NBC will give this one room to breathe.

Ouch, no comments yet? Maybe everyone has already watched all the episodes on-line? *looks around hopefully*
I am still enjoying the show, even as I thought this episode was the weakest so far (including the pilot, which I thought was fine). I still liked it, but the show's reliance on whimsy and quirk rather than explicit laughs will probably doom it. And I didn't think enough worked for this to be a very good episode.
I like the running gag of people being cooperative but Andy's sidekicks not seeing it and plowing ahead with strong-arm tactics (Thursday it was Simon, previously Lew).
Andy's father-in-law getting beaten up (twice) didn't bring any laughs for me.
I couldn't figure out Simon's reaction to Lew's line re the un-manly coffee: "I'm growing a set of jugs just lookin' at these". Was Simon getting aroused by the though of Lew with a rack????
Andy wandering around, trying both to elude the gunman and find a wireless signal (including stumbling into the pot growing room), brought smiles but no laughs. I did laugh at the e-mail being sent successfully just before the laptop crashed to the ground.
Do Simon and Wally both live at their businesses?
Do Andy and his wife have kids? We've never seen them AFAIK.
WHERE IS NICOLLE? I think she has the potential to be a great character. Maybe they felt the cast was too large, but why introduce her in the first place?
Favorite part of the episode: the ending with Lew and Andy.
Lew: How'd you like to make a quick two grand?
Andy: What are you doing? It's 3am!
Lew: Not in Hong Kong it's not.
(Chinese gong)
Also note that Lew is holding one of Simon's sissified "coffees".
I also like the running gag about the end of the episodes introducing adventures that we never get to see.
In theory I love this show. In actual execution it has to be better than this episode.

I agree about the weakness of the last episode. The jokes were to few and not really any solid laughs. I did chuckle when Simon and the pornstar both gave a thumbs up.

I have to agree this episode was much weaker than even the pilot. I had high hope after the "Chicken" episode that this show will improve but this one didn't do anything for me.

Not sounding good:

I liked it, thought it had good potential. Too bad it sounds like it won't get any time to develop.

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The good news: NBC plans to broadcast "The Lady Varnishes" - the previously announced "online only" episode of "Andy Barker, P.I." (read the story).
The bad news: both it and "The Big No Sleep" - the last installment of its six-episode order - will run on Saturday, April 14 starting at 8:00/7:00c.
The news, confirmed via scheduling updates this morning, does not bode well for the show's chances for a second season.
In its place on Thursdays, NBC will bump up the 9:30/8:30c time slot premiere of "Scrubs" by one week.
"Barker" posted a series low 1.8 adults 18-49 rating (according to preliminary Nielsen data) for its special 10:00/9:00c airing last week, making the decision not much a surprise.

NBC is giving up on "Andy Barker, P.I."
After a lightly promoted four-seg run, the Peacock has pulled Conan O'Brien's critically adored midseason laffer from its Thursday perch, effective immediately. It will be replaced by "Scrubs," which had been set to inherit the 9:30 p.m. timeslot April 19.
NBC has been streaming and selling all six produced episodes of "Andy" for several weeks now. This week it will also air the skein's final two segs in network TV's death slot, Saturday from 8 to 9.
O'Brien, Jonathan Groff, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger exec produced "Andy," which starred Andy Richter as a CPA-turned-private eye.

Personally, I don't mind watching a show like Andy Barker P.I. and it getting canceled. While I'd obviously like shows I enjoy to continue, I don't feel like I wasted my time, and there's no continuing storyline that doesn't get resolved. A show like Smith or the LOST clones that have a continuing storyline and get axed are far more frustrating.

I gave it three episodes. First was decent the others, not so much.
