Hell, I'd rather eat dogshit than watch another episode of Sons and Daughters.
I actually reply mostly to say that I'm glad you mentioned Campus Ladies. I stumbled across it one day when they ran at least 2 episodes in a row (I know because I saw 2). It was like a train wreck that I couldn't look away from. I'd like some of whatever led to that concept. It was far and away better than those two S&D episodes, but that really isn't saying much.

Whereas Sons and Daughters should be called Arrested Development For Dummies.

Ahhh, now I see where you're coming from!

What surprises me more than the hate for the show is the number of replies to the thread. New comedies premiere all the time and usually they don't get a very big thread. The show S&D most reminds me of is Free Ride. FR premiered after AI and yet this thread has 10 times as many replies.
I don't find S&D comparable to CYE or AD at all. The biggest difference is that the latter 2 shows just go for the comedy. The characters never develop and the plot is there mainly to facilitate more jokes. Free Ride and S&D have more of a dramedy feel. I really care about the characters and where the plot is headed.

Yep...to repeat what I said before...this show is nothing like Arrested Development. So it has a family and it's a comedy. There are lots of comedies with families in them.
I find it funny how some posters claim this is the worst show that has ever come out, yet feel the need to make like 5 posts claiming how bad it is and how they will never watch it again, like somehow this will help make them more secure in their opinions.

I finally finished both episodes.
Gotta say. I really like this show.
After seeing the "equestrian" commercial, I can't wait for the next episode.
My guess is that the unscripted parts will gradually fade away, although the actors will still probably be given alot of freedom.
Great potential.

Husband actor? Check.
Absurdist premise with protagonist adrift amidst wacky family? Check.
Grandparent marital issues? Check.
Care to revise that statement, chief?

- Network promotes show heavily with ads that make it quite apparent they targeted AD
- Buzz is bad
- Contrarian reviews come in
- People watch, filled with either high AD expectations buttressed with reviews or very low buzz-related expectations.
- People react negatively
- Other people who liked the show react defensively
- The original people who trashed the show react defensively
In a way, this proves that the marketing for the show was successful in a perverse way. If you believe there is no such thing as bad publicity, this has to be considered a huge success.

I hated the pilot episode of The Office remake and I thought the Coupling remake was a disgrace, but I gave those shows a chance. The Office found it's stride at the end of it's short first season and Coupling had some decent original episodes in which most of them never made it to air. I'm willing to give all shows a chance and I'll stick with Sons and Daughters for a few more weeks.
However, even The Office remake showed signs of improvement during the second episode. The second episode of Sons and Daughters wanted me to kill everybody involved with the show. Except Dee Wallace. She needs to leave the trainwreck while she still can.

I'm still around in this thread because I find the reaction to this show to be very interesting.
