I hope the hook a electro-stimulus device to Isaac Mizrahi's nads and give him a jolt everytime he thinks about gropping/peeking/squeezing/slapping/noodling the people on the red carpet.

Here's to Crash pulling the upset in the big category and Steven Speilberg nabbing the director statuette.

... and a premature congratulations to Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamitti on their respective wins tonight!

Far be it for me to point out the transparency of the emperor's new outfit, but actually looking through the list of nominee's this year it strikes me how unenthusiastic I am about nearly all of them. I enjoyed a few, but find little that I truly can't wait to see win a statue. Maybe I'm just getting crotchety, but I hope the class of 2006 has stronger offerings.

That being said, I am leaning towards Goldberg74's picks as well.

I am pretty lukewarm about this year's Oscars. I usually feel more emotionally invested. It's not that I didn't like many of the films, it's just that I guess there isn't one performance or nomination in particular I'm really rooting for.

I would love to see Good Night, and Good Luck win big, but I know that's not going to happen. Instead, I guess I will expel most of my energy vehemently rooting against one film, that film being Crash. Judging by comments here, I see I'm still in the minority in my intense dislike for this film.

After catching Sarah Silverman hosting the Spirit Awards-and talking at length about her vagina and other extremely interesting issues-I hope that she will get the Oscar gig permanently next year no matter how Stewart does tonight.

It's about movies, but it is being shown on TV.

And you think just them performing is going corporate? Just look at some of these snippets from a couple of articles I have seen over the Entertainment wire at work:

From one article: The group had to change the song's racier lyrics into more television-friendly fare. One key phrase in the chorus was cleaned-up to become "a whole lot of witches jumping ship.'' When Henson let the b-word slip out during a rehearsal, her face registered the mistake.

Here's another article in full:

Oscar finds it hard to listen to `Pimp' lyrics
By Timothy Finn
Knight Ridder Newspapers
(KRT)
In the category of songs, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aimed for genuine controversy, then settled for compromise.
When the hard-core rap "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp'' was nominated in the best original song category, it caused a stir. "Pimp'' is a cut from "Hustle & Flow,'' a film about a Memphis pimp who wants to be a rapper.
It was written by the Memphis rap group Three 6 Mafia, and it includes plenty of offensive language, including the "n-word'' and terms that demean women.
"Pimp'' also portrays the cut-throat street life in Memphis and one man's fight to survive and escape his violent surroundings.
However, viewers of tonight's Academy Awards show won't hear the version of the song that was nominated. Instead of what actor Terrence Howard, as DJay, performed in the movie, Three 6 Mafia will perform a sanitized version of "Pimp,'' which has been rewritten to appease the censors. Even with words, terms like "messed up'' inserted in place of the obvious profanity, Three 6 Mafia will convey the song's inherent message, which is about how cheap and disposable life can be in some parts of America. And for that reason, it ought to win the award.
The two other nominees (and performers) are Kathleen "Bird'' York for "In the Deep'' from best picture nominee "Crash'' and Dolly Parton for "Travelin' Thru'' from "Transamerica.'' It's an odd, short field — the first time since 1980 that fewer than five songs have been nominated — that ignores worthwhile cuts from soundtracks like "Brokeback Mountain'' and "Elizabethtown.''
On the good side, however, this year's field is void of sweet, grand treacle from Diane Warren, James Horner, Elton John, Phil Collins and anything Disney.
Of this year's small group, Parton seems the likeliest winner. "Travelin''' is a redemptive, nostalgic country anthem, festooned with strings, banjo, fiddle and slide guitar. Much like Bob Dylan, who won for "Things Have Changed'' (from "Wonder Boys'') six years ago, Parton is an institution who commands interest, if not respect, from people who aren't even fans.
"In the Deep'' is an appealing but innocuous slice of wispy, after-dinner indie-pop from Kathleen "Bird'' York, who plays Andrea Wyatt on the TV drama "The West Wing.'' "Deep'' is also a cut off her full-length studio album, "The Velvet Hour.''
If "Pimp'' wins, it will follow a precedent set two years ago, when Eminem won an Oscar for best original song for his infernal go-for-it rap, "Lose Yourself,'' from the movie ``8 Mile.'' At least lyrically, "Pimp'' is more unsuitable for prime-time audiences, primarily because it depicts (some would say exaggerates) the walk and talk of a more repugnant character.
Happy to be nominated and invited to perform, Three 6 Mafia cleaned up the words — but, one can only assume, not the ideas — that might offend. In case it hasn't applied enough cleanser, the network will use a five-second delay to help its censors, according to the group's attorney, Aaron Rosenberg.
"It's admirable that voters are recognizing the hip-hop generation and its influence on American culture,'' he told Reuters last week.
It's a compromise, for certain, but at this point, everyone involved seems to feel like a winner.
(EDITORS: STORY CAN END HERE)

BEST ORIGINAL SONG
The Academy Award nominees for best original song:
"In the Deep,'' from "Crash.'' Music by Kathleen "Bird'' York and Michael Becker. Lyric by Kathleen "Bird'' York.
"It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp,'' from "Hustle & Flow.'' Music and lyric by Jordan Houston, Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard.
"Travelin' Thru,'' from "Transamerica.'' Music and lyric by Dolly Parton.
———
OSCAR SONG FACTS
This is the first year since 1989 the best original song category fielded fewer than five nominations.
Kathleen "Bird'' York, nominated for "In the Deep,'' from the movie "Crash,'' plays Andrea Wyatt on NBC's "The West Wing.'' She had a small part in "Crash'' as "Officer Johnson.''
Dolly Parton's nomination for "Travelin' Thru'' is her second best original song nomination. She was nominated for her song "Nine to Five'' from the 1980 movie of the same name. "Nine to Five'' lost to "Fame,'' from the movie "Fame.''
The first original song Oscar was awarded in 1935 to Con Conrad and Herb Magidson for "The Continental'' from the film "The Gay Divorcee.'' The film starred Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

No offense but that doesn't make sense. Sports games are on TV but they are talked about in the Sports forum. If you see a movie on TV you don't talk about it in the TV forum. The awards show is all about movies. If I listen to it on the radio or watch it on the internet should I talk about it in the Music or Tech forum? I really don't care so much, but I think that reasoning is flawed.

yeah, I think I could just as easily "leak" a "winners" list. Some of these aren't even close to plausible. Namely all of the acting categories
