Don Knotts has died

Not entirely a surprise, but still sad. Like many here, I grew up watching him.

From The Associated Press:

Actor Don Knotts dies at 81; made being a nerd OK

By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ
Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Don Knotts, the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on ‘‘The Andy Griffith Show,’’ has died. He was 81.
Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs ‘‘The Andy Griffith Show,’’ and another Knotts hit, ‘‘Three’s Company.’’

Knotts was absolutely superb as Barney Fife in The Andy Griffith Show, to say the least. But before this role, Knotts was also a well-known comedian with many TV appearances--he was extremely hilarious as a regular on Steve Allen's TV shows in the role of the "man in the street" that acted nervous all the time.

He will be seriously missed.

I hated Knotts as Furley at first but liked him the more I saw the reruns of Three's Company.

RIP Barney/Mr. Furley.

I never watched Andy Griffith, but I was a huge fan of Three's Company as well as his comedy films, especially those with Tim Conway. Supposedly, he was super nice to everyone and always had time for his fans.
