VH-1: Supergroup
from melodicrock.com:
VH1 START FILMING SUPERGROUP REALITY SERIES: Exclusive - Stand by for a new reality TV show. VH1 commenced filming on their new show - tentatively titled Supergoup - this week in Las Vegas. The premise of the show is to lock several musicians in a house for 10 days and get them to write and record some new original music. Originally the network wanted the group to record an album, but at this time it is understood they will settle for one song and hope for more. So just who makes up this supergroup which has until now, been kept under wraps? The line-up is: Scott Ian (Anthrax) - Guitar; Ted Nugent - Guitar; Evan Seinfeld (Biohazard) - Bass; Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) - Vocals and Jason Bonham (Bonham, UFO, Foreigner) - Drums. In addition to the 5 musicians, star manager Doc McGhee is in charge and is also living in the house for the duration of filming/recording. The show will air on VH1 in later this year. |
They should call that show "Group" 'cause the "Super" sure is missing.
|
Doesnt Ted Nugent have enough experience with "supergroups?" I mean, I am still waiting for the third Damn Yankees album.
|
I thought Sebastian Bach was already part of a "supergoup", too...

I'm in. Bas Bach, Scott Ian and Nugent in a band? Should be fun.
And I too, am waiting for the 3rd Damn Yankees album. :D |
I'm in. Can't pick a much better vocalist than Sebastian Bach.
|
I would be in except for Bach, of all the out of work former rock stars this is the one they settle for?
|
I'm definitely in. Thanks for the heads-up. :)
|
This should be good. Ian, Bonham and Nugent definitely get my interest, but Bach puts me over the top. As just about my favorite '80s metal vocalist lets hope he's still up to form... I know the other guys are.
|
Sebastian Bach -- Keep bottles away from him. Never really a fan of Skid Row.
Scott Ian -- Cool dude. Ted Nugent -- Shitty guitarist, even worse songwriter. Evan Seinfeld -- Been doing hardcore porn since he got out of Oz. Didn't know he was still playing music. Hell, if I could fuck Tera Patrick any time I wanted to, I'd consider a career change. Jason Bonham -- I'll cut the guy some slack even though he's been riding on his dad's coattails for two decades. All in all, it's a pretty lame line-up. Maybe that's what they're going for. I would've preferred a better vocalist and lead guitarist. Bach and Nugent are both pretty weak; and Flea would've been a riot to have around. I'd name Dave Navarro as a lead guitar candidate, since he's been whoring himself out to reality TV a lot lately. (But not with Flea, I remember Dave's brief tenure in RHCP and don't want that to happen again. Ever.) My ideal line-up might look something like: Vocals -- David Lee Roth (might as well run with the concept) L Guitar -- George Lynch, Alex Skolnick, or someone else similar. Maybe let Yngwie unleash the fucking fury. R Guitar -- Scott Ian (eh, I like Scott, he'd be good to have around) Bass -- Flea Drums -- Jason Bonham |
This could be great, too bad we don't get VH1 here in Canada.
|
I would rather this group be on Rock Star, and have Tommy Lee and his gang here. This group is far superior to me.
Any chance we'll hear Sebastian bust out Hollaback Girl again? |

Wasn't a bad show, I liked seeing the guys but heads, from the preview there seems to be some fists thrown later on in the season. Can't wait to see what name they come up with for the group.
|
Liked the first episode
Bach's list of potential song titles (stored on his laptop) was hilarious. It's like a 4th grader thought of them. |
As just about my favorite '80s metal vocalist Can he really define a decade when he existed for 10% of it? ;) |
I like the first ep. I'm not that crazy about Bach as a singer or songwriter, but I like the guy. Ian is in the first band I feel in love with so its cool to see him. Nugent - never liked his music, but he is somewhat entertaining. Evan & Bonham I'm not really familar with. It would have been cool if they could have gotten Tommy Lee on drums.

Well I dvr'd it so Ill watch it tonight...I hate Bach, Bonham, and Nugent, but big fan of Biohazard and Anthrax so this will be fun tonight to watch. Off topic question here but anyone know if they are going to replay the Behing the Music of Pantera again any time soon? I caught the last 10 minutes of it, and thought it was the best BTM I've seen, just based on the fact that Phil is really the biggest whack job in music. Anyways, sorry to derail the thread, but was just wondering if anyone knew off hand.
|
Tommy Lee is in Supernova, the other reality tv supergroup.
I thought the episode was just ok. I was really looking forward to it but it's edited in a slack way somehow. PLus a little Nuge goes a long way. Still, I'll watch. Almost more entertaining was the post-show on VH1 Classic where the guys (minus Nuge) sat around with Eddie Trunk basicall cracking wise on each other. That was very fun. |

Nugent: "so how do you pronounce your name?"
... "ok, get cooking" and gotta love how they ripped apart the "backstreet boys" people |

They had a lot of old footage of the band from the early-to-mid 80s when they were "glam," which was kind of funny (esp. the bits where they were playing at what looked like a roller-rink), but they looked like they were having a lot of fun. It would be great if they released this on DVD; it was fantastic. I'd even recommend it to people who hate metal music. (What would be really great would be themed boxed sets of BTM. I'd be first in line for the "metal" one!) |

Finally watched this episode, and it wasnt bad...I was really hoping Evan would have punched Nugent. Oh well, so who will win out, the heavier Ian and Sienfeld or the hairness of Bach, Nugent, and Bonham?
And thanks for the heads up for the Pantera BTM...Will be dvr-ing that one. |

Uh, sorry but so far Even is really coming across as Mr. Prick. Don't get me wrong, Ted is obnoxious and overbearing, but Evan was really a punkass (thinks he)knows it all on the first day. |

Rock n' roll... is a savage animal! Savage animal! It just rolls off the tongue: savage animal! C'mon man, savage animal! Rock n' roll is like... a savage animal.
|
I'm disappointed we didn't get an explanation for Celebutard.
|
celebrity + retard
|
...but it would be better to hear Bach explain it.
"Celebutard! Rock n roll is full of celebrity retards! As the frontman, it rolls of the tongue and I'm a celebrity. And a retard. Celebutard! Rock n' roll! A name like Skid Row comes once in a lifetime, but Celebutard, man!!" |
At least they didn't go with Godwar. That name makes me think of some death metal group.
BTW, there is an official site up for Damnocracy: http://www.officialdamnocracy.com/ The logo/band name with the US currency font is actually pretty cool. |

I was interested in this show at first, but I am finding myself more and more bored with it. Anyone know how many episodes are left? |
Ya think VH1 might find the time in their busy schedule to show the actual concert that they've spent the last 7 weeks or whatever building up to? I mean, 25 minutes or so was more time than I expected them to spend on it but it was still just a series of snippets. What the hell.
|
I would buy a Damnocracy cd wasn't bad from what I heard.

I bought into the initial idea too, but looking back, it was a realllllly bad idea (really..., Damnocracy?). And Sebastian not messing with Stranglehold, yeah right... You have to see this stuff coming.. (sadly, I see why Skid Row failed.) |
from sebastian...
Well I have seen the Season Finale of SuperGroup. There are some facts that I need to address: -Valerie & Doc, you seem to not understand why I feel entitled to some sort of control over the 'Skid Row' name. Please let me explain (although Doc already knows all this). Back in 1987 when I joined the band, yes it was already called Skid Row. I did not think up the name. But the fact is we bought the name 'Skid Row' from legendary British Guitar hero Gary Moore. His band 'Skid Row' was around in the early seventies & Gary Moore owned the name when we started in 1987. When the guitar player, bass player & myself all got signed to Atlantic (only 3 out of 5 members of the band were actually signed to the label ), Gary Moore heard about it & said we could have the name for $35,000 US Dollars. Snake & Rachel walked into rehearsal & said "We have to pay Gary Moore 35 grand to use the name" & so we, as a band, bought the name from Gary Moore. We were all glad to do it because it is a great name for a band. I remember looking at Scotti & Rob saying "wow, thats alot of $ but we gotta do it!" What I did not know was that Snake & Rachel put only their names on the copywrite / trademark of the name. No other members of the band has ownership of the name, even though 3 of us were signed to Atlantic. That's the music business for ya. It was not until years later after we bought the name from Gary Moore that I learned that we meant only 2 out of 5 members of the band. When I joined the band we had sold zero records. By the time I was fired in 1996 we had sold over 15 million records. Do I deserve a say in how the back catalogue is distributed, marketed, packaged, remixed/remastered etc.? Yes I do. Do I have any control whatsoever over my voice & image for at least 10 years of my career? At the moment, no. I hope to change this situation in the future. - I would like to apologize to Uncle Ted Nugent for being an 'unprofessional' during our show at the Empire. The song 'Stranglehold' is one of my favorite songs ever but the song clocks in at 8 or 9 minutes & during a 50 minute set that is a considerable amount of time! So I really did not know what to do onstage during this musically incredible but vocally nonexistant part of the show. I knew there were a stack of DAMNOCRACY shirts backstage that I saw before the gig so I figured, why not give these shirts to the people who came to see the show. I in no way meant to be 'distracting ' during Ted's lead. I'll bet the people who got free DAMNOCRACY shirts did not mind that I did this. Sorry Uncle Ted but all I was trying to do was get people to have fun & have a good time. - This is a reality show but it is more "show" than "reality". The world has to know that: a) Doc McGhee does not manage me (have not talked to him since March) b) Valerie & Jay are in no way my "publicists" (have not talked to these people since March) c) I do not have a 'stylist'. d) Unfortunately, there are absolutley no plans at this time for the band DAMNOCRACY. No tour, no album, no nothin'. I would love to play / record / whatever with DAMNOCRACY but at the moment all of us are busy with our Rock & Roll, Adult Film, & Hunting careers. I am recording my second solo CD entitled 'Angel Down' which will be in stores this October. See http://www.sebastianbach.com for video updates. My solo band will be on tour with Guns N' Roses this July in the UK. Hope you all enjoyed 'SuperGroup'. See ya on tour. Sebastian Bach |
Thanks for posting that, GuessWho! I enjoyed the show. It seems rather weird that nothing really comes out of this whole process as they are all busy with other things!
|
Bach seems reasonable in that post.
