Andreas Katsulas, Babylon 5's G'Kar, passes away at 59

We've lost too many of these guys, Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin), Tim Choate (Zathras), and now Andreas, way too soon these past couple of years.
Andreas Katsulas, the character actor known to SF fans as G'Kar on Babylon 5 and a familiar face from Star Trek and other SF&F TV shows, died Feb. 13 of lung cancer in Los Angeles, his agent, Donna Massetti, confirmed to SCI FI Wire. He was 59.

Damn, he was the best thing about B5. Such a wonderful actor. I think today marks the official death of B5. It wouldn't be proper without his participation.

Wow this really hit me hard. I can't think of B5 without thinking of G'Kar and the amazing job Andreas did during the character's development. My favorite character on the show and I think one of the finest acting jobs I've ever seen over the run of a TV series. RIP.

My sister went to school with his daughter, and since our name is "Kenny", she'd always be nexts to "Katsulas" alphabetically. She'd meet him at school events all the time.
Sad to see him go.

I hate to say it but most of the other actors on B5 were pretty average as far as acting abilities go. But I remember thinking about Andreas' performance as G'Kar once while watching an episode in which he figured prominently. Of all the actors on B5, his was the only performance that I found 'transparent'. I never thought of him as acting, I just accepted his characterization as natural. Also, he was one of the few cast members who had the range to run through the whole emotional spectrum -- and do it well. In the end, I think this is the highest praise you can give an actor.
I would like to thank Andreas for sharing his talent with us and my sympathies go out to his family and friends.

If I had to point to one moment on B5 that truly showed what an amazing actor he was, it's the scene in "Acts of Sacrifice," after G'Kar has learned about the official Earth and Minbari response to the Narn/Centauri war -- he walks out, leans against the wall, and just *kills* you with a combination of tears and laughter, shock and surprise. Amazing.

Holy crap. First Richard Biggs, now Andreas Katsulas. Both B5 actors died WAY too young.
This really sucks. Katsulas was a fantastic actor, with serious range. His performances as G'Kar were nothing short of brilliant, and his interplay with Peter Jurasik as Londo was one of the highlights of the series.
I'm just stunned. I liked Katsulas a lot as Tomalok, and came to love him as an actor in B5. After that I paid close attention every time I saw him in something - and was always impressed. Even guesting on mediocre TV shows or TV movies with poorly written parts (which he did from time to time) he could still come off pretty well. He was also a great choice to play the "One armed man," in the movie version of The Fugitive.
But, in the end, it was as G'Kar in Babylon 5 that he had his greatest opportunity to show his talents - and show them he did!
This is very sad news, indeed.
It's funny, I was thinking just a couple of months ago how it seemed that both he and Jurasik had retired because I haven't seen much of anything about either of them doing any movies or TV appearances recently. With Katsulas, now I know why.
I already missed him, but now it's just so damned final.
Damn.

I loved his speech about it being easy to be brave when you don't have a Centauri ion cannon pointed at your head. The guy could deliver a damn monologue like no one else.
