LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC is developing a series based on "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," the hit thriller that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
The network has ordered a pilot, which the film's director, Doug Liman, is expected to shoot, subject to availability.
It envisages the pilot will be ready for midseason 2006-07 or fall 2007 consideration.
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith," revolving around a pair of married assassins hired to kill each other, earned more than $186 million at the North American box office last summer, and sparked a real-life romance between the two leads.

Didn't like the movie, as it was almost too gleeful in its sadistic portrayal of a marriage gone bad!

So would this pick up after the movie, where they know about each other's secret life? Or would they position this before the movie with them not knowing and replay that reveal in the course of the series? To me, just a plain husband and wife spy team thing would be boring. The double-secrecy (and the aftermath of its reveal) is what made the movie fun IMO.
