Everybody keeps mentioning the homage to Superman: The Movie but I don't think anybody's mentioned the S:III homage -- turning a lump of coal into a diamond.

I think most have tried to forget Superman III. I know I have. |

I can't wait for an homage to Superman IV. Then again, maybe there's already been one. I don't remember much from IV.
Simply an "ok" epsiode of Smallville, I expected more, especially after seeing the preview for next week. |
Good episode. It's a shame we'll probably never see Tom Welling don the red cape. As the the new movie looks like teh suck big time.
|
I used to think the movie looks sucky too, but now I'm not so sure. Singer's done a pretty good job with the Xmen franchise and The Usual Suspects. He picked Hugh Jackman for Wolverine, who was just as much of an unknown at the time, and that worked out pretty good. But my biggest reason for changing my mind about Tom Welling having to be in the movie, is that it would just be really strange for him to be talking to a different Lex, a different Lois, a different Ma Kent. To not make it awkward, they would need to put the entire cast of the show in the movie, and nobody's going to watch Smallville the Movie (other than us of course, but nobody else). So I'm going to sit back and wait for this movie and hopefully enjoy it.

Why, why did they have to kill off Bo Duke, he didnt die in the series Lois and Clark.
|
I don't see why Tom can't wear "the suit" in Smallville. I would really like to see an entire season showing Clark's first atempts at being Superman, the people and media reaction, learning what he should and shouldn't do, etc.
Unless there are rights issues with the name "Superman" that I don't know about. |
Since Clark doesn't wear glasses everyone in Smallville would know that Clark was Superman.
|
Good point. What if he simply moved so fast he couldn't be IDed...or got a haircut? That'd surely fool 'em.
|
See, that's the big twist. Superman wears glasses! Think of the added strength to his heat vision! It's brilliant!!! I'm submitting it as a proposal for Episode #200.

This ep wasn't the best, I agree, but I don't see how some of you can be so harsh without seeing how things do change in the series as a result of the events that took place in this portion of the story. I remain cautiously optimistic.

Better story eh?

Now if the writers would like to have Clark and Lana break up for good and further the romance with Lois, that's one thing. But you know we'll get another season at least of Clark and Lana doing the same old shit. Hell, I would have been happier had they just forgot about the Lana dying scenario, and just went with Clark telling her everything. Then they could break it off in the future.
Ciao, Smithsguy |
glad it wasn't Chloe, but it sucks that it was Jonathan
I'd read a spoiler indicating someone died but had avoiding hearing who when Lana died I was happy, then they had to pull the time travel card |

Maybe it's meteor rocks in the water supply...who knows? |
Smallville has mastered the art of the cop-out. They must have really strict rules that the writers must abide by. I still enjoyed the episode (especially the first half), but I HATED the cop-out.
The episode would still be damn good (although I still wouldn't care much for the time travel.) if Smallville wasn't so known for cop-outs like this. Man, I just wanted to see what it would be like after Lana's accident (especially between Clark & Lex). Welling made it sound like it was going to be huge even that really changed things, so when I saw Lana die and Lex watch Clark run to Lana I thought that might be what he meant, but the writers didn't have the guts for that (or weren't allowed to keep it like that). I have to give them points for not using amnesia though. I think I would've thrown up in my mouth a little had they pulled the amnesia card again. :) The episode could've been one of the best they've ever done had they stuck with the death of Lana. It would seem a bit cliche` that Lana would die right after Clark tells her everything and asks her to marry him though. However, that event would be a huge event that would change everything. |

Why would anyone want to weigh down the big screen Superman movie with all the crappy writing and freaks-of-the-week of Smallville? |

Count me in as another who feels Tom Welling should have gotten the Big Screen gig. We're just back to square one. Now if the writers would like to have Clark and Lana break up for good and further the romance with Lois, that's one thing. Finally watched the episode.
Personally, I enjoyed the first half of the episode but the second half was just dissapointing. So what I would like to know is if the subsequent episodes will be "fillers" until the return of Spoiler:
|
And Tom Welling while a fine Superboy, is no Superman. Maybe he's slightly altering his voice to sound younger, but when he talks, I don't hear Superman. |
