I just noticed last night that I have a new HD channel on my Cox cable lineup, unfortuantly it is MTV (not Fox or TNT or WB or UPN, etc). I only watched about a minute of it all night due to other shows and Xbox 360. Does anyone else have this? Watch it much? Worth anything? I just hope they show videos on this channel and not the same crap MTV 1 & 2 show now.

It has been rumored that Comcast will be adding this.

I'd much rather have ESPN2HD or UHD.

Over on the AVS forums, rumor has it thet Universal HD and MTV-HD are rolling out on Comcast at about the same time.

Well, more HD channels is always a good thing... but I can't say that I have much interest in this specifically.

Maybe it will show music videos, I doubt any of the current crop of MTV shows are shot in HD, so why bother broadcasting in HD

Yeah, now that MTV is a 24-7 teen reality show channel this does seem rather pointless. It would be nice though to have them add the M back to MTV and show some musically diverse HD videos. But who am I kidding?

What I saw last night was a 50 cent concert, but I can not stand him so I flipped it back to 24 (my SD feed of 24 ), I will check it out again tonight.

MTVHD doesn't bother me. I don't watch anything on it, but maybe something cool will come of it with concerts and live shows.

Universal HD is pretty good. Some great movies show on there, commercial free. I can't imagine a more useless HD channel that MTV in its current state.

I think it's going to be mostly a concert channel right now. I've heard that the Unplugged series will be shown. It'll be some time before we start seeing enough HD videos.

Instead of MtvHD, DirecTV is getting CD USA. It's pretty much a concert channel and most likely have lots and lots of reruns.

We just received Universal HD through Time Warner at the beginning of the year. It does not appear to be a channel I'll watch much. I think they show Law & Order like Comedy Central showed SNL.

Well I flipped several times last night and all I saw was hip-hop videos, I guess they may have been upcomnverted, and one song from Bruce Springsteen's VH1 Story Tellers series. I hope they do not go with 90% hip-hop which seems to be the case now.

How do you think music videos are shot? I'd imagine that the number of music videos in standard/heavy rotation on MTV/VH1/CMT that aren't shot on film or high-definition video is extremely small. Editing/post-production in HD is what counts.

that was the first thing that popped to my mind as well. It would make more sense for a music channel that not only showed music videos but also more 'live' shows in HiDef to be presented as such.

Not sure since I haven't seen a video in quite some time. I probably was thinking more along the widescreen side of things.

Okay it seems they are pretty much showing everything in the library, but I have not caught anything I like yet, as they had some country videos on last night. I would guess right now they may be doing a VH1 classics type format with a block of like videos, but I have not watched it enough to figure out the logic of it.
