Stargate SG1 S9/Atlantis S2 general discussion thread

These shows tend to be overlooked on Fridays against Battlestar and don't get their own threads too often, so I figured a general thread was in order.

I'm looking forward to both tonight. From the previews it looks like they are taking a break from the Ori/Wraith and visiting a couple of new worlds.

Glad to see they've both gone back to having real opening credits--both shows did without them for the first half of the season, and I was missing the full theme songs!

SG1 felt like a retread Star Trek: Voyager episode, which was a retread in itself.

I didn't agree with SG-1. Basically, they're trying to tell that government how to run. Bad things happen and the administrator bent over backwards to help them and they still acted like they were lording over everyone.

I knew that plot felt familiar! I kept thinking the administrator had something to do with the murder but I guess not.

I do like the direction of this new season, and think that they have the ability to continue this a few more seasons with great results. However...

>I thought that the way they healed every one last night was almost a cop-out, like they just wanted to get rid of that plot line. Oh, and was anyone surprised that the Ori are going after the Ancients? I kinda saw that one coming.

You can read the transcripts of last weke's episodes.
Spoiler Warning!!!
The SG-A page seems to have transcripts for episodes that haven't even aired yet.

SG-A: Scroll down to 2.11 "The Hive".
http://www.twiztv.com/scripts/atlantis/

SG-1: Scroll down to 9.11 "Fourth Horseman [2]"
http://www.twiztv.com/scripts/stargate/#season9

Now as for this week's episodes. SG-A's villain this week did feel like yet another Predator rip but it was an okay episode. And as for the SG-1, the memory thing - well, I never really watched ST: Voyager but this episode did remind me of some parts of ST: TNG. SG-1 was still good, the flashbacks made me feel like I was watching a bit of CSI.

The SG-A page has transcripts for episodes that have aired - in Canada We're up to episode 17 here (just aired this weekend, so no transcript is up for it yet).

Still watch and love both shows. Friday night is the best night of the week!

Thought both were solid but not great this week.

Thanks. I skimmed the latest SG-1 transcript, but I didn't see... I really just wanted a quick description of how they figured out how to beat the priors.

It sure would've been the perfect oppotunity to bring back Anderson for SG1. I can't believe he isn't on an SG1 team in every alternate reality.

I also was looking to see if he would pop up as a member of one of the alternate teams. Would have been neat to have him leader of the "evil" team.

Good stuff (1/20 episodes)

These were good stuff. Much better than the week before. I liked the subtle variations in teams. Any inside jokes that anyone noticed? I thought I saw a team with the "super-hero" arm bands from season N. Also a team in Farscape? spacesuits.

First time we've seen an Asgard in both series on same week?

Ciao,
Smiths Guy

Always good to have Ball (and/or some System Lord) making an appearance. It seems the "threat from space" or "attack on earth" just hasn't been nearly as present with the Ori.

So could Mitchells friend be a new symbiote candidate? Ever since Sams father died, that's another thing missing in this show.

Wish this thread got more love. SG-1 is at it's best in 9 years (well...season 5 was damn good)...and Atlantis has seen a marked inprovement over last season - still need to get rid of Tayla though.... =/

This week's SG-1 was okay. I thought all of the situations were a little forced. We did know there was tensions still brewing back on the Jaffa world, so I suppose this summed that all up. Wonder if Tealc really is turned and just pretending, or if that Tirtonen poisoned him.

Atlantis was good as well. Obviously a filler ep, but McKay is just too damn funny. Great stand-alone ep.

I don't know if I'm losing interest or what, but I give both SG-1 and Atlantis a rating of "Meh..."

SG-1: Teal'k gets captured by the Go'uld (Bal). This has been done too many times.

Atlantis: McKay gets hit in the head and has to fight a concussion to save the ship. Just a redo of an SG-1 episode from last year.

Amanda Tapping in a wet bra was about the high point of the night...

I thought they could have put her in a much better bra/bathing suit top for that scene, but that's the Adult talk in me typing.

Amanda did look nice, but I agree that both (of last week's) episodes were rather weak.
