I don't know, I think the genetically engineered idea could be a good one. Aliens have been done before (and are being done in the present, and will continue to be done in the future) and if they really were just new creatures from the depths of the ocean, then all the cover-up and the murders don't really make any sense. Once you find out they are actually part of a genetic experiment gone wrong, then it all comes together.

I agree. I like the angle. I especially like Martha Plimpton whom we see way too little of.

It does make sense if a govt. (the U.S. govt. for example) wants to attempt to use and exploit these creatures for some type of new bio-weapon. And be able to harness the rejuvinating and healing power they apparently have, and keep this all for themselves without the rest of the world getting involved.

Especially since our biggest enemies now live in the desert, it really makes sense that our inept government would develop a killer sea creature as a weapon.
