Supporting the troops and our country is not mutually exclusive with disagreeing vehemently with the actions and policies of our government, or pointing out it's failures. So many Americans seem to love this country mostly because it's where they are from - like the school spirit silliness I saw in high school. I love this country mostly because of what it can be, and I hope to see it get much closer to that potential in my lifetime. That is why I criticize ideologies which undermine the best in us, and the apathy of the general public which allows us to be so poorly represented.

All I know is during the 60's,70's,80's Christmas was Christmas all over the place.
During the 90's I didn't notice a change, but in the 21st century just these stories and how the stores didn't want to use the word Christmas. And you can't sing certain Christmas songs in schools and how they want to change it to "WINTER BREAK" instead of Christmas. And what makes it look even worse is when likeable people like David Letterman says he doesn't believe this is going on. Or won't even look into it himselft the stories O'Reilly said he had instead he shakes his head and just says he doesn't believe it. I know liberals have a cetain mind set because I have delt with them in my life, but if you want to win a young generation over your not going to do it buy not looking at both sides. I am not a liberal but am for afrimative action, why because I have seen blacks who are should have been promoted get screwed over and a white person given the job. And this wasn't just at one work place. But it took for me to see it,because I wasn't for afrimative action.

Is it really a "WAR ON CHRISTMAS!" though? I mean who really gives a shit. I mean c'mon.... the WOC is the result of having to fill a 24 hour news cycle without having the majority of the news be actual news. Because if it was actual news than most people wouldn't tune in. I think that was what set Dave off. I don't think he really did himself any favors by admitting that he had never seen O'Reilly's show after saying that 60% of what comes out of his mouth is lies.

It's funny when Bill and all of the right start to decide for themselves which person in a family is or isn't right, just because they don't agree with the most obvious choice.
Terri Schiavo's husband was a liar. Her parents were not. She was also not brain dead because they found one doctor and one doctor/Senator (who's apparently not good at either job) who says so. Turns on she was.
Now we disregard the mother of Casey Sheehan, because a letter was signed by "grandparents" and "cousins" and "uncles."
I don't know the truth, no one here does, but if I was dead, unless my grandparents, uncles, and cousins were the ones who raised me (in my family and in most families that's not the case), I would want my mother to speak for me.
If Casey were brain dead and Cindy wanted to keep him alive and the extended family wanted the feeding tube to be removed, you'd be screaming that the mother should be the one who decides what's best for her son and how dare the other family members for getting involved.
I am Jewish and married to a Jewish woman and we have a Jewish child. Guess what, we celebrate Christmas! The war has someone managed to stay out of our householdl; maybe we're just lucky?
Letterman had a Christmas tree on his set and has so every year that I can remember. They annually have a ceremony where they put a pizza, a miniature Statue of Liberty, and a meatball on the top.
That's a major network show with an audience of all kinds of people that in no way hides from Christmas. I graduated from a high school that was 99% white and 95% Christian in 1986 and it was called winter break WAY back then. We called it Christmas break or winter break amongst the student body, but it was on the school calendar as Winter break. Did the war start back then and in a school that didn't have any reason to be politically correct? No. All the schools had winter break. Or winter recess. There is no war against Christmas, never has been, never will be. It's still all over the place, even at Petsmart, where our daughter and our dog got their picture taken with...Santa Claus (not Jesus whom the holiday is supposed to be about).

For those who think Dave "proved" himself to be not so smart, Bill O'Reilly doesn't agree with you. Here's what he's said about Dave.
"The late-night program hosted by David Letterman is the toughest interview show on television.
That's because Mr. Letterman is a smart guy who can spot a phony with telescopic accuracy and expects his guests to bring something to the table. If a guest begins to sink on this show, the bottom is a long way down."
O'Reilly column
John Stewart best summed up Bill's phony war on Christmas.

I really believe that people on both sides are going to side with 'their guy' in that fight because the arguments on both sides have merit depending on your viewpoint. Personally, I thought it was more entertaining than anything else. It was certainly fun to watch O'Reilly squirm for once, but I also got a kick out of Letterman being unable to control the conversation. IMHO, the best point of the night, that almost stopped the interview dead, was O'Reilly telling Letterman that both of them are entitled to their own opinion. I thought it was well timed and said, about the only thing that actually got to Letterman a bit.
I can't watch the video at work, and I know I'm making the same wrong assumption that Letterman got called on here, but (IF IT HAPPENED AS DESCRIBED) the only personal/childish event of THIS whole thing is the pencil in the water deal. I'm very anxious to watch the video of that because I'd be pretty surprised to see that from Letterman. Only because I just cannot see him blatently disrespecting another quasi-political guest on the other side of the political aisle the same way, such as an Al Franken or George Clooney. Even though I don't see O'Reilly as the 100% GOP cheerleader he is portrayed as, but that would be how I perceived Letterman approached the interview.

The Sheehan family letter came from her ex-husband's side of the family - from people who according to Sheehan didn't even know Casey very well.
