Man, after seeing the show awkwardly cut around Theron's character so as not to make her retardation too obvious we finally get a totally Rita episode and Theron was fantastic--hilarious and cute to boot. It's a shame she is leaving right when she gets so much comedic freedom from the plot.

MrX 12-05-05 10:52 PM

The scene with Rita and George Michael in the car when he realizes she is retarded was hilarious.

Once again I prepped myself for tonight by watching the last 2 episodes (the special hour last month). I firmly believe that this show is better on 2nd viewing (almost pissed myself again on the jetpack instruction DVD). Tonight was great. I've accepted that the end is near, and am thankful I will always have DVDs of the first 2 seasons (and there better be a 3rd!) to keep me happy.

Heartagram 12-05-05 11:24 PM

Fucking brilliant episode, great moments:

"why am I floating on this water!"

Super Dave firing himself.

Busters Roboto dance.

"It's not a trick, Michael...."

On the next Arrested Development

"... it's an illusion!"

"Just because a woman gets pregnant doesn't mean you have to marry her. Too many lives have been ruined because some cheap waitress at a HoJos said she used an IUD."

"It was Stuckey's."

"But I believed you!"

It wasn't obvious to me.

At least, until RKillgore mentioned it ~10 posts before yours. ;)

Bill Needle 12-06-05 12:27 AM

This episode was brilliant on so many levels. I absolutely loved it. Inside and outside jokes everywhere, and the best last 15 seconds of any show I have seen in a long, long time.

Daniel-A 12-06-05 12:42 AM

It really doesn't matter if we watch or not. There is no way for them to know whether we watch, only those nielsons. That being said I did watch and continue to love this show. Kinda sad to see this hour of good tv get canceled. :(

hahn 12-06-05 01:03 AM

The pre-plastic surgery picture of Charlize Theron from Monster.

mayfieldbrian 12-06-05 01:27 AM

HOw did the episode end? My Tivo cut it off just as she was walking on water.

This episode was great. It makes me wish they made Therone a regular. The jokes they could of played off her would have been awsome. I guess it wouldn't mater anyway.

Mr. Roboto Commercial

No friggin way!! I would have never known that  That made this episode even funnier than it already was!

Chew 12-06-05 05:59 AM

Awesome ending.

Didn't know about the Hale/Roboto connection either.

nope, they didn't include the simpsons..

but now, how does that make sense? AD didn't work out after the simpsons, which translates into: people who watch the simpsons don't watch AD. so, knowing that, why advertise AD during the simpsons?

i saw 10 spots for Skating With Celebrities during NFL Football!! COME ON!!

scoot95 12-06-05 06:30 AM

The scene where Rita is all excited she gets to listen to "young people" music with George Michael and then turns on the Wiggles had my Wife and I rolling.......

We also loved GM and his light saber fighting on video........his comedic timing is brilliant.......

Oh, so that's what the [1] at the top of the page means. Apparently if I click on that, it shows me earlier posts. Who knew?

Fielding Mellish 12-06-05 08:17 AM

Somebody owes me money for the damage to my white couch, after I spit out my Coke thanks to the "Monster" gag. In all, a nice "return to form" episode after a few questionable ones.

Somebody please save this show.

Michael Corvin 12-06-05 08:17 AM

Brilliant episode. The Charlize payoff was worth it.

Ron Howard was exceptional again.

All the call-backs were killer.

"we should get a second tape" on the lightsaber
Lindsay winking just like Lucille
"Come On!"
"I wanna make Pop-Pop"

Nosebleed 12-06-05 08:27 AM

Thank God the whole Charlize thing is over now. If that run of episodes was any indication of what to expect from the remaining few, then I won't be that disappointed about its cancellation. As many others have mentioned, the ending was great--probably the only joke to get a laugh out of me, aside from the Monster bit.

That's how they get you.

My friggen cable went out last night around 5:45...

uteotw 12-06-05 09:21 AM

Agree it was brilliantly funny.

The slow-motion moment where Michael realizes she's retarded, followed by the inevitable yet perfect: "I've made a HUGE mistake."

How many more eps will we get to see on TV, and why haven't they figured out a way to track the two or three non-Nielsen people watching shows using TIVO??

dick_grayson 12-06-05 09:31 AM

are the ratings out from last night yet?

The two sites I check haven't posted them yet. Shouldn't be too much longer.

thanks. I've seen people freak out when someone posts the ratings in the episode thread (where else are they supposed to go?) and thought maybe they were already out somewhere. I'd doubt that the viewership changed much.......although I hope to be wrong.

Cusm 12-06-05 10:22 AM

The flash back scene, Theron was smoking playing the banjo. I am gonna have to go rewatch that episode again.

I don't think she was smoking. She had her tongue kind of sticking out, but I didn't see her smoking anything. I just watched it (torrent) since I forgot to dvr it. Good stuff.

Spoiler for those who don't want to know the ratings:

Spoiler:

It lost to a repeat of 7th Heaven....

ABC won the 8 p.m. hour with a 7.7/12 for "Wife Swap" (and football on the West Coast). Reruns of "The King of Queens," 6.5/10, and "How I Met Your Mother," 6.1/9, put CBS in second. NBC was third with an early showing of "Las Vegas," 5.7/9. The WB snagged fourth place with a "7th Heaven" repeat, edging FOX's "Arrested Development," 2.8/4, and "Kitchen Confidential," 2.1/3. UPN trailed with "One on One" and "All of Us

Sorry I meant she was smoking HOT in that scene.

I certainly agree with that.

For the past few years, I didn't think she was all that (for some reason---same as I currently feel for Cameron Diaz). Anyway, since AD, she's now toward the top of my list.

I'm sorry, but i'm beginning to see black helicopters circling..

There's NO FUCKING WAY this could be right..

It's a conspiracy. Seriously.

movieking 12-06-05 11:17 AM

Most people give up on cancelled shows that continue to air. No real surprise the rating is so low, lower than normal.

DaveNinja 12-06-05 11:49 AM

This was the first episode i watched in "real" time. i finally caught up. it sucks that fox didnt put out the dvd seasons until the next season was already going. After watching season 2 on dvd i went on the internet for the first 5 episodes of this season. fianlly caught up and it gets cancelled.
Will arnet is amazing.

majorjoe23 12-06-05 12:03 PM

I set my DVR and went to watch at a friend's house. When I got there an ad played saying the show was delayed 2.5 hours for an Iowa State/Drake University basketball game.

So I got to see it, but not record it :(

"It's not a trick, Michael... It's an illusion!" was great, as was Mr. Roboto, the Monster pic, George Sr.'s "Her?" and so much more.

DRG 12-06-05 12:06 PM

For the record, the ratings of Arrested Development were technically HIGHER than
Spoiler:
7th Heaven. According to Futon Critic, 7th got 2.7/4 (18-49: 1.5) while Arrested got a 2.8/4 (18-49: 2.1). Arrested did beat 7th, but barely. Zap2it is referring to the hour block ratings, meaning 7th beat out Fox's average for the hour, which is the combined rating for Arrested and Kitchen Confidential.
