Best serialized TV?
I seem to love more of the serialized type of TV (one long evolving storyline week after week). Shows like Prison Break, 24, Veronica Mars, O.C. (season 1, at least), etc. Any suggestions on a new, or old series i should start in on?
|
Don't bother going any further with The O.C.
I suggest The Shield, Nip/tuck, Rescue Me, Sopranos, Deadwood, Oz, and Lost to name a few. |
I second Nip/Tuck
Alias until this last season is also good. |
The Wire
|
the new Battlestar Gallatica is great, Roswell, Dark Angel, Angel
|
I can second:
Angel, Nip/Tuck, The Shield, Oz, and even LOST I suppose. If you're going to get into Angel, Buffy is another nice show that is at least semi-serial once you get past the first season or so. Everwood is the show to suggest if you like the teen serial, though it does offer more than just that. Homicide is another show I can definitely recommend. It's more serial than most other cop shows. ETA: I forgot Gilmore Girls. Great stuff there. |
Babylon 5 excelled at the continuing storyline. A planned out 5 year story. Some small moment or episode from season 2 turns out to have great significance to the story in a later season. Story telling at it's best.
Mr. Morden: "What do you want?" Vir: "To see....(ah, why spoil it) |
Anything HBO:
Oz, Rome, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Carnivale (even though there's only 2 seasons and it was cancelled).... amazing series :) |
Babylon 5.
Don't question us. Just watch it. ;) |
I'm going to put in a plug for a favorite of mine: Everwood. Though only season 1 is on DVD, it's well worth watching. Extremely well-written, and likeable characters. It's great family drama.

Farscape
plus, like mentioned above The Wire, Deadwood Lost and Early Alias |
Buffy (mainly after the first season, but it's a mix, so it has stand alones too, but many of the stand alones help develop the characters and can still be important).
Angel (see above.) Alias Lost (I personally haven't seen this one yet though). Carnivale Nip/Tuck |
Arrested Development is ten times funnier to people who've seen every episode. Damn Fox. :(
|
SportsNight
|
Definitely The Wire.
Also Oz, Six Fet Under, and just about any HBO or FX show |
The Wire is a great show with fantastic story archs that span multiple seasons.
Carnivale, Deadwood, Oz and Lost are all strong as well. |
I'll give another vote to The Wire, amazing show. I'd also recommend Veronica Mars, highly underrated.
|
Everwood
Rome (The Anti-Everwood) Lost |
Babylon 5
Farscape Six Feet Under Deadwood |
Two words....General Hospital
|
Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Best show on TV. |
More votes for Battlestar Galactica and Veronica Mars.
|
He mentioned Veronica Mars in his original post, so presumably he already watches it. But if anyone else here doesn't, they should be...

Another vote for Babylon 5 - which I just decided to give a watch through again.
And also...Deep Space Nine, Farscape, the new Battlestar Gallactica, Roswell...etc...etc. |
I have been thinking of finally watching Babylon 5. I caught a few of the early episodes but that was a long time ago. Think I may finally give it a go.
