Dane Cook was supposed to join the SNL cast the 2003-2004 season (IIRC, it may be the 2004-2005 season). He was approached by Lorne Michaels after he saw Dane's stand-up, but in the end, Dane declined the offer.
Dane's a hilarious guy, but SNL would instantly make him un-funny.

Lots of credit to Eva Longoria. She's the first guest in a long time that wasn't constantly staring at the cue cards. She actually seemed very prepared and even did a pretty decent Lucy Ricardo. Too bad most of the material sucked.
I have to admit that I got a good laugh out of the Vincent Price Thanksgiving Special. Sanz's slow walk as Hitchcock, Wiig's looney Judy Garland, good stuff.
Odd to see Dane Cook. He's damn funny, but SNL's more about promoting big stars nowadays. Maybe he can energize the show a bit.
Korn was awful. And what's with all the repeat commercials? It's becoming a bit pathetic.

if they're going to keep doing bush stuff every week they need to do funny bush stuff

I'm not too surprised that Eva would be good on SNL - she's a former soap actress, yeah? Quick memorization is the biggest (some would say only) skill needed for soaps.

On a profile of her on E! there's some footage of her working with an improv group in L.A., as well.

I'll see all your "Who's Dane Cook"s, and raise you a "Who the fuck is James Blunt"?

... never heard of him or his music. Must be Loren's nephew or something.

That, my friend, is funnier than anything I have seen on SNL so far this year.

I saw Blunt's "You're Beautiful" video on MTV2 not long ago. It was kind of sensitive indie folk, like a lot of Damian Rice's stuff. I hope he does the song "No Bravery", a really sad one about his time as a soldier in the British Army. I can't see many guys on here going "wow amazing performance!", but honestly if SNL can give a snoozer like Jack Johnson a spot (as they did back in March...sorry but that dude's boring and that barefoot parody was right on), a good relatively unknown guy like this deserves a chance. I like the choice of Dane Cook too. I'd been hearing and reading lots of hype about him and thought he was pretty funny in a goofy frat guy way on Leno a few months back. We'll see how talented he is at elevating crap.

Only the cheezily funny Vincent Price bit kept this from being the first time I have ever watched this show and not found any -- not one single nugget -- of humor in it. I only laughed when Price got pissed at Hitchcock for walking too slow. That was it. The entire 90 minutes, and that was it. Now to be fair, I am discounting the commercials which were funny the first 3 times I saw them last month. The SNL well is officially dry.
It didn't help that having never watched Desperate Housewives I knew nothing about Eva Longoria. I was not impressed much with her either, though she appeared to be trying hard. She's not even that good looking.

When is the last time Korn even released an album or toured? Hell, why not have Eagle-Eye Cherry on sometime?
And whoever compared Faith No More to Korn on the first page - you need to have your ears cleaned out.

I thought Korn was awful, but even worse they already seem really dated.
Like not too long from now you will see a repeat of this show and will not be able to believe that their whole look and sound was ever considered happening. Sort of like Guns & Roses syndrom.

Next host is Dane Cook. I don't mind because he's a great standup and should do a good job, but I would bet that the vast majority has never heard of him. Interesting choice.[/QUOTE]
I didn't realize who this was until now. Very funny standup. This could be a sleeper!
