Sex Fiend 11-16-05 12:02 PM

No question, this is my favorite show on TV right now. Character based comedy at it's best, with just the right amount of exaggeration in the personas of Michael and Dwight to give it that little extra touch of daffiness.

And I have worked in a few small office environments just like Dunder-Mifflin, and I can attest that this show captures the feel of that absolutely perfectly. The people writing and producing this show obviously have a great awareness and/or personal experience of small office life. The ensemble cast is perfect, in look and acting performance. They all seem completely authentic in their characterizations.

And I also love that the show seems to have a genuine affection for all of its characters, even Michael and Dwight. Believe me, I am a tough sell when it comes to network sit-coms, but I cannot say enough good things about The Office.

No, his real-life wife was the real estate agent a few episodes back.

right, we're obviously watching the documentary. But I meant, why would someone make a documentary of office life? Why that particular paper company office in Scranton? Things like that.

rotfl ^3

Dwight's prep time before his review was also hilarious.

The boning line had me in stitches. I was laughing so hard, I had to pause the tivo!

Even thinking about that line now makes me giggle. This show just gets better and better!

Yes, that is the one.

I love when shows reference other shows. i.e. Trump and Smallville. It is rare(especially giving a nod to a show on another network), but it makes it seem more realistic.

Giving a nod to a show on the same network usually seems forced and a cheap plug, but not the Trump line, it just seemed to fit.

"I heard they made out and had sex."

"I heard they just made out."

"Well, I heard they made out...and had sex."

 I think this might be the best episode yet.

A former co-worker had a fitness orb in her office. I sort of liked bouncing on it every now and then...

Nesbit 11-16-05 07:56 PM

Do they really work? I would get an orb for my home office if I could justify it as excersize.

Patman 11-16-05 08:03 PM

She had it as her seat because it was better for her back (she had back surgery).

I actually used my wife's for a few days at home before she bought me a new ergonomic office chair. It was okay, but it was too low for my computer desk.

Tommy Ceez 11-16-05 10:19 PM

Fitness orb?!? Its a swiss ball!

Nesbit 11-17-05 08:12 AM

Yeah well now it's called a fitness orb.

Michael Corvin 11-17-05 08:21 AM

Looks like you haven't seen Startup.com

Also some docs are about taking the ordinary and making it extordinary. Shine a light on the little things.

Big Boy Laroux 11-17-05 01:53 PM

argh. i know the idea behind documentaries like this. and i have seen Startup.

I was just wondering if anyone had mentioned WHY they chose this office. WHY did they choose this as subject matter. I just think it would be interesting to see it one day. Maybe see who's behind the camera.

If there is one nit pick with the Office US version, it's it doesn't seem to have a difinitive goal as to why they are making this documentary. In season one of the UK version, weren't they filming it to see how the office would deal with the cut backs they had to make, and in the second series, it pretty much covered David's downfall. And the Christmas Special covered their reunion/where are they now kind of thing.

I love the US version, don't get me wrong, but you just don't get that feeling of there actually being a purpose behind what they are trying to show us with the "documentary."

And, I have no idea why they chose either offices to film the documentary at. I suppose David Brent would claim because he was such a great boss!

Big Boy Laroux 11-17-05 03:50 PM

thank you. was my question just not worded correctly?

El Scorcho 11-17-05 04:47 PM

Why does it really matter why they're there filming the documentary?

Big Boy Laroux 11-17-05 04:52 PM

it doesn't. I was just wondering if they mentioned it, and I missed it for some reason.

Well, it adds to the show if there feels like there is a reason for this to be happening. Like Best In Show...would it have been funny if it was just about random dog owners? Under good direction and good writing, I suppose so, but once you gave the movie a focus, it was a lot better.

Like I said, I am not slamming the US version at all. It's a minor nit pick in the greater scheme of things. It's just something I noticed. One thing I liked about the UK version is that there seemed to be a reason they were making the documentary, but that also made the writers of the show feel limited in what they could do, which is why we never saw a season three. So the US version is great because it's giving us more and going in different directions than the UK version, and it's working great.

Jimmy James 11-17-05 10:27 PM

I would definitely like to see the question resolved, but it does not hamper my enjoyment of the show.
