Anyway, being as this was HBO and being that I know the 'realness' that this show is and the quality that the creators are striving for, I don't think Vorenus' actions were at all a foregone conclusion. In fact, from about the midpoint on, I was just about praying for him to 'do the right thing' because I thought it was a very real possibility that Pullo would die. So so glad Vorenus did. Somewhat expected, but still nailbiting and 100% satisfactory. As with everyone, I agree that this was a great, great episode and I just cannot convey enough how great of a show this is. Bravo HBO!

It wasn't specific or anything, just a broad description and like I said, I didn't know what that meant, only that it couldn't be good. If we have to spoilerize speculation or statements something that is only generalized as good or bad then we truly have some problems IMO. Also, nobody said that my source was official info, it was just an opinion by whichever writers of the article who had seen it. It might mean nothing!

On a point of agreement, I too was thinking that Pullo was going to die at the hands of that huge gladiator at the end. I almost marked out when Vorenus charged the arena.

That same description basically fit this last episode as well.

Caesar's writings of the Pullo/Vorenus story seem apocryphal. Perhaps not, but that sort of thing is common in history.

Spoiler:
If you watch the clip for the next episode, it makes it look like Vorenus might be the one to get the chop. He walks in on the assassination.

Loved this episode. I found myself jumping up during the arena scene with beer held high, shouting "13!".

I wonder how many times I uttered "Wow" in those last 5-10 minutes and for several minutes afterwards. I don't think I've ever been that moved by anything I've seen on TV, and maybe only a few times by movies.

I'm with everybody else. The gladiator sequence was really something else. This, of course, isn't an "action" series, but that was extremely well staged.

Looks like I gotta jump on the wagon. My mouth was on the floor throughout the whole scene. I swore Pullo was going to die and when Vorenus when it too help; I too was moved. A show has NEVER moved me like that did.

I cant wait to watch it again and own the DVDs. That 8 minute gladiator fight (better than anything Ive even seen on film) makes the whole show worth sitting through. At the very least, to get attached to Titus and Vorenus and see them during that gladiator scene.

Fucking amazing. I actually have no idea what happened after the scene as I was still in awe and couldnt even pay attention.

Just got around to seeing this episode last night and agree with everyone else about the WOW factor.

Also have to give props to Octavian for sticking up for Pullo and trying to get Vorenus and Caesar to have Pullo released from the dungeon.

Can't believe there is only one episode left with some uncertainty regarding the next season, and if there is a second season it will be a very long time from now.

Wait you mean Ceasar dies?! But he was declared a God, clearly you need to do some fact checking!

This was truly a great episode. My wife was constantly paging me from upstairs to turn it down, but fuck it man, wathcing that battle in HD and surround sound was well worth the bitching I took for it afterward. This was the one new drama I selected to watch this season and it has really payed off.
I just worry that next season won't be able to keep up the drama without the Caesar stuff. I guess we'll see in 2007 (sigh).

BTW : Despite all the complaints by almost all the characters on the show about Caesar being such a tyrant, he actually seemed pretty level-headed and fair for a dictator. Maybe I'm missing something but except for paying for that hit, he seemed to be a pretty good guy who was essentially forced into battle by Pompeii and then just succeeded in everything he did from that point forward. I may have missed some stuff, but he hardly seems like the villain on this show.

In any case, the decision of the producers to make the main characters of the series be Pullo and Vorenus rather than Caeser and the senators was certainly the correct one.

IIRC Rome did away with monarchy for a Republic, ruled by the people and not one single person. It was not so much the way Caesar ruled, especially with later Emporers, but the idea that the Republic which had stood for so long was being destroyed, and the power the senators held. This is the condensed version, you should read up on it a bit, it is such an incredible time in history and while this show is awesome, there is no way to really capture everything in a tv series.

Really. I'm sick of the spoilers on this forum.
This weekend I rented Titanic and I don't want anyone spoiling that and giving away the ending about what happens with the ship.

Really people.... Such drama queens you lot...

I was just trying to help people out by being so harsh. What's more ignorant? Not knowing history, or pretending obviously fictional characters (or at least storylines) are part of it? Dr. DVD posted something that was clearly not speculation, something written by someone who had seen the finale, and somthing that, while not specific, 'spoiled' the near future of two main characters. If you can't see why that should be spoilerized, then I'll see you in the arena!

And may god rest the souls of Jack and Rose...forever lovers...

that fight at the end kicked so much ass! a few minutes that was infinitely better than gladiator ever thought of. the only bad part was the i didn't get it in HD so i had to suffer through normal. i want to see pullo go up against jack bauer.
