I say there's too much TV coming out on DVD, only in terms of money. Not having an unlimited budget, I find myself having to pass on shows that are released that I would otherwise buy if there weren't so many other shows coming out that take priority for me.

Having said that, I think TV on DVD is great. I buy very few movies on DVD now, except for the occasional recent theatrical release. DVD is a great way for me to be introduced to older shows I've never seen and aren't in syndication, shows that are on premium channels (i.e. Mr Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm), or current network shows that I didn't start watching when they started (i.e. West Wing, Lost).

One of the best things about TV on DVD, for me, opposed to movies is the convenience of being able to watch an episode in less than 25 or 45 minutes when you don't have time to watch a 2 hour movie. For example, I work nights and don't get home until 1:30-2:30 in the morning (depending on when I get out). I normally don't go to sleep until 3-3:30, and there's nothing on TV that late (except SportsCenter and an occasional West coast game still going on on ESPN) so I usually pop in a TV show on DVD (right now I'm making my way through X Files and Curb Your Enthusiasm) and watch an episode or 2 before I go to sleep. At 2:30 in the morning, I don't want to devote 2 hours to a movie, so a couple 22 minute episodes or a 45 minute episode is perfect for me at that time of night.

As far as shows not yet released, I'm still shocked that "Police Squad!" remains unreleased from Paramount. It was a 6 episode series (could easily fit on 1 or 2 discs), and was the precursor to the popular "Naked Gun" series of films. There's definitely money to be made on that series.

I've pretty much stopped buying TV shows on DVD because I just have an unending backlog of unwatched DVD sets and after the birth of my son I can barely keep up with all the shows in my Tivo. I used to be the biggest DVD collector, but if I still haven't watched my DVDs of season 2, 3, and 4, I am not going to buy 5 and 6 when they come out.

That said, I would instantly run out and buy the ABC show Home Front if it got a DVD realease.

Also missing: Melrose Place, L.A. Law, and the season season of Twin Peaks.

I absolutely hate commercials. It is a waste of my time sitting there waiting for the stupid commercials to end. Between my dvr and tv-on-dvds I can now enjoy a show without interruptions.

Also, you have the luxury of watching a series from day one.

As others have mentioned it is easier to find 40-45 free minutes to watch one episode versus finding 2 hrs to watch an entire movie.

Hill Street Blues is coming out at the end of January and it will be mine.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as they are still making tv shows, there is not too much tv on DVD. A person can have too much tv on DVD, but the market will always clamor for more because everybody is discovering that it's the best way to watch.

My vote for a show needing to be released is Twin Peaks, season 2.

In terms of retail space there might be too much tv dvd but I have noticed my Target and Circuit City devote more and more space to it now. But am a TV DVD addict I have 53 different shows most have multiple seasons. I keep a list of what is coming out so that i can keep track of all my wants. I also have a list of shows i want mostly short series that last a season or less with unaired episodes. I say keep them coming and keep bringing the prices down plus offer rebates for buying muliple seasons.

Also give me uncut tv episodes on dvd which is the whole point of getting the dvd set for a tv series. If i want to see cut episodes i can just watch reruns on tv. Keep the music intact as much as possible. Production order is important for shows which studios should check out quickily on the internet. For example the recentily released American Gothic episode order is so screwed up because of the way it orginally air that tvshowsondvd.com put a memo on the site on the correct order to watch it in. Even a show like Saved By The Bell because there is a episode a few in on the 1st set where a new student Slater starts Bayside. Don't cram too many episodes on a disc like 6 hr long of a drama and we perfer one side discs not episodes on each side of a single disc which is more prone to issues such as straching. Also extras are fun deleted scenes, commentary, and others are welcome.

An addition to no commericals, benefits of tv dvd include
NO BUGS
NO LOGOS TELLING ME WHAT STATION AM WATCHING BECAUSE AM NOT A MORON

Top Want Unreleased Birds of Prey

Another example of a show that stopped at Season 1:

Malcolm in the Middle (I think Season 1 came out in 2002)

Just have to echo many of the comments already made.

I don't believe there's such a thing as "too much". There's always more that hasn't been released yet, and everybody who is into it has at least one (or more) show(s) that they want which still haven't come out yet. I get excited every few months when I find out a show I've been waiting for, is finally getting a release date.

As has also been stated, there are many shows that I never watched (when they aired), or got to see (because they had a short run)- which, thankfully, with thier DVD releases, I have now been able to enjoy.

I know that I buy much more TV on DVD releases than actual movies these days. Many times I buy stuff because I do watch it over and over again (Buffy, Angel, Roswell, Firefly, Babylon 5, Deep Space Nine, That 70's Show, Kids In The Hall). Other times it's strictly for nostalgia (Kolchack-The Night Stalker, HR Puffinstuff, Superfriends).

The added bonus of watching it when, where and how I want, instead of relying on regular TV - is also one of the things I appreciate about it.

My list of stuff I'm still awaiting a release for...

Twin Peaks - Season 2
Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman
Justice League/Justice League Unlimted (full season sets)

Oh, add "Battle of the Network Stars: The Complete Collection" to the wishlist.
