Despite my agreement with almost all of the sentiments in these threads about this season, I have continued to watch. That is going to change though after tonight. It was simply the worst. The challenges aren't even laughable anymore in their ease. Just end it now, please.

At least I will take some solace away knowing that the petty vindictive losers made one of the most boneheaded gaffes and won't be taking home any money.

I have to admit the Paolos are growing on me. They constantly fight, but I think deep down it's all frustration and hot air and they really love each other a lot. I'd like to see them make it far, at least top three for sheer entertainment value. I definitely consider them underdogs since both parents are pretty out of shape and none of them seem all that sharp (although they were smart to do the log detour). The dad's reaction at the racetrack when he found out what they were doing was hilarious.

The shrill housewives can go anytime though. I hate the way anytime they're racing somewhere on foot one of them has to yell something like "crazy ladies, comin' through!!!!". Um, yeah I think everyone can see that. And the crying and bitching at each other...take some midol, ladies, please.

Next week
Spoiler:
they finally leave the US!!! Not that I was hating it now, but it'll be fun to see how they all deal with the various cultures and language barriers

I'm starting to like them too. The father was just way too excited for some things! It was funny to watch.

I completely agree on that part, I was just referring to the thing about their father. I don't like that team either, (well the mother anyway), but I still feel that what happened to their father was awful and it would mess me up too.

Way, way too much crying in general there.
^Co-sign

I just about turned off the TV I was so sick and tired of the crying, it so fucking annoying. Damn. Especially the girl "1 second makes a difference" I mean shit somebody gag her already.

I bet it was tough entering the race track for that family that lost the father. I lost both my grandpas from cancer (smoking) and I don't get upset seeing other people smoke or from cigerette ads, I don't know maybe thats different though. its life, it happens and it fucking sucks.

I agree with the above poster on the "fun for the whole family tasks" very lame.

The thing I am most sick and tired of is the helping. YOU ARE THERE TO WIN QUIT HELPING!!! I hope one of these families drops the soap and helps another family win the 1 Million, I would laugh my ass off and it would make the whole lame season worth it, watching another family lose because they helped out. Probably would never happen, but would still be great!

This show will probably only last in my lineup till the NBA season starts.

See this I don't get. How hard or time consuming is it to play consecutive hands of blackjack until the dealer busts three times? The house has set rules and is forced to hit with a good chance of busting. If you were playing with real money it might cost you, but seriously the odds are that the dealer must bust, I dunno, 20-30% of the time, right? (edit : I looked it up, it's 28% of the time or 1:3.57, good guessing, huh) Let's say it's 25% and that a hand of Blackjack takes 5 minutes to play (which is absurd since it's much quicker than that). Now on these estimates, it would take at most 60 minutes to beat the dealer three times, and that's never beating him straight up.
Remember that the Gaghans were cutting with two, not four as well. They should have stuck it out.

Gas stations, big chairs, and trailer parks? Seriously, WTF?!?! How did an Emmy winning show get flushed straight down the toilet? At least the roadblock tonight was cool though...oh..wait...never mind they decided this episode didn't need one. Have a hard time believing someone actually earns a paycheck by deciding a task will be to drive to a BP and ask Earl..or Gus..or Joe Bob..or whatever the fuck his name was for a clue. Shit had me on the edge of my seat wondering which of the 2 BP workers held the magical clue.

At least Survivor is good this season.

the pro's in wood cutting cut a log solo handed like this

SINGLE BUCK
A single sawyer uses a one-man bucking saw to cut through a 20-inch diameter white pine log. Dion Lane placed first last year with a time of 12.41 seconds

Surely a team such as the linz could get through one cut in 2 mins, even lets say 5 tops, thats 2 in 10mins, I am pretty sure the canoe over took probably 2-3 mins. maybe 5, so I would have thought that I'd have cut 2 chunks in the time it took them to row over and back.

I think the part you are missing is that all 4 members had to beat the dealer, I think that changes the odds.

I agree. So nice of her to make me hate her just prior to being eliminated. How ironic that they got lost in their hometown. I was hoping Phil might say "I have good news for you...this cab will take you home". Felt kinda sad though at the end when the dad talked about how this experience made them stronger for when bad things happened to them. If he only knew what was coming...

Nope. You just stand with the two cards you're delt. Can't bust with two cards.

2 people cutting. 7.38 seconds..

JACK AND JILL SAWING
Jack and Jill bucking contests consist of a man and woman and are against time. Starting cuts of no more than one-half inch deep, in order to set the teeth of the saw, are allowed. Logs must be cut completely through. Timing starts on the signal “GO” and ends when the block is severed. The wood is 20” white pine. In 2004 the first place team of Mike Sullivan and Nancy Zalewski bested the pack with a time of 7.38 seconds

Yes but the dealer has to only beat 1 of the 4 teams.

So you get dealt 14, and he gets 15. where the other 3 have 21

Dealer wins.

Have you ever played Blackjack?

The dealer has to hit on 15 (or anything below 17) and has to stand on 17 or higher. Everyone on the table could have a value of less than ten, if the dealer draws 15, he HAS to hit. If the next card is a 7 or higher he busts. Period.

Okay, I've never played black jack in a casino so I done been schooled.

If it is as simple as you say and the odds are as you say then something else is amiss is it not?

So does the dealer have to deal himself if one of the 4 busts? Or not?

Since the dealer only takes his cards after all the players have had their turns; if all the players bust, he never even has to take one card. This skews the odds slightly in the house's favor.

You can find all the rules here. That's where I found that 28% statistic.

now you can see why I laughed when Phil stressed they were going up against a "Professional Dealer". It's not like playing poker against a professional -- the house rules are set and do not involve any skills or even decision-making on the dealer's part.

Those Gaghans keep advancing by the skin of their teeth. As much as I enjoy watching them and hope they make it far in the race, it seems pretty clear that they are not very good racers. They remind me of the Smith brothers from last season in that they're quite capable when it comes to doing the physical tasks, they're just not good with the driving and finding things.

Who needs inter-team rivalries when you get friendly moonings?

Spoiler:
Baseball and a shipping port... Panama?

Yeah, isn't this the third week in a row that they've been second to last?

It's like, if you see the Gaghans behind you, you're fine. If they're ahead of you, you're about to be philiminated.

Next week, I expect them to be in Canada. They aren't going anywhere exotic, that's for sure.

I really am not enjoying this race at all. I can't help but to watch, so as long as there are no non elimination legs, hopefully this one will just wither away.

Between all the internet chatter and the negative critical response to this season, I sure hope the producers learn a lesson.

Wow, the Great Lakes are in the south now? That wasn't the same person who didn't know PA was a state, was it?

This episode finally gave me an idea for a new sig: "Chew's Quote of the Day". It doesn't have to be the best quote or the funniest, just anything that strikes me from all my TV viewing.

And the way they do it reminds me more of some OCD ritual which has to be completed, than someone communing with their God.

Glad to see the Schroeders go. I hated that family. The dad is an arrogant asshole and the scene last night when they were riding the party bike and making fun of the Weavers about having a hard time at the racetrack, all with a devilish grin on their face, made me realize that they are just not nice people. Good riddance bastards.

You Jesus-haters can say what you will, but the power of the Lord was evident. Notice how the Weavers sped through the blackjack game (a contest of "luck") while the Gaghans (who are presumably Atheist or worse) were stuck there.
