I'm watching all three, but I really think if Brent Spiner wasn't in it I'd ditch Threshold
and William Fitchner will keep me watching invasion even if it turns bad, but the pilot episode wasn't too bad

vaporware 09-28-05 08:46 PM

At first I thought Threshold was the best but based on second episodes I think maybe Surface will be the best.

Plus Brannon Braga produces and writes Threshold and that makes it hard for me to support.

Well, I'm going to bitch-slap myself here.

Just watched the military school ep, and Threshold has taken a major dive. That was awful.

I will second that motion. I am really suprised at the production quality of this show. The creature running around at the pool party was very well done. Although it could have been a sock on a fine thread ;-P

But I will continue to watch all three as none of them are bad. Give them half of a season to cull the heard.

After last night's episode of Invasion I'm done with that show. I think I'm going to give up on all of them soon. I find myself watching and thinking why.

I'm trying to figure out what I'd think of Threshold if I didn't know he was involved in it. I think my opnion might be slightly tainted due to my hate of him

Very helpful thread. I hadn't heard of Surface, but I have Supernatural, Invasion, and Threshold on my Tivo. I did a much better job of keeping up with TV during the summer when there were only 3 or 4 shows I was trying to watch.

I put my vote in for Surface after watching the 2 first episodes of each show. I have the most fun watching it, and I think it does have the best suspense and creature action.

I'd go for Invasion 1st, Surface a close 2nd. Both shows are enjoyable. Invasion has maintained its very creapy feel. I'm totally hooked. Surface was a surprise for me. Very funny, though lately it seems to be floundering a bit and perhaps its been targeted more to the 13 year olds. A big thumbs down for its dumbed down intros with the voice overs.

Threshold, though I shouldn't be surprised, was a huge let down. It had the money, and the stars, but you just can't compensate for bad writing. They lost me when the "virus" locked out the computer wis with a "quantum encryption code". How he can determine this sight has spawned enless speculation. What the hell it even means is another story.

Unlike Surface and Invasion, Threshold is holding on to a dead format. And I have to say this, even though i'm a huge trek fan, Threshold is way to Star Trek in its quick wrap ups in the last 5 minutes. That, a nonesense plot (seems our invaders haven't heard of radio), the horrible premise (the protocol), etc.... I doesn't surprise me it was just axed. I think Braga is just damaged goods in the sci fi genre. I think he needs to take a rest or switch to cop shows or something.....

I dumped Invasion after about four episode. It wasn't going anywhere and I couldn't even pay enough attention to keep straight who was married to who and who were exes. I voted for Threshold back then but it has been getting further bogged down and the aliens seem too stupid in having problems spreading the signal. A moron could do it. I'm not upset at the cancellation.

Surface, while far from a great show, is silly, goofy fun, and I find myself looking forward to it. If I were voting today it would easily get my vote.

FaustBos 11-27-05 09:23 AM

Hi Movielib, I completely agree with you on the dump aliens in Threshold. I just can't get passed that. I also can see your point with Invasion, however, having kept with it, I think it has maintained and even intensified the creepy factor. Not saying you should give it another shot, but I think if you happen to catch it again, you might find it has found its nitch.

Agreed again on Surface. this one was a surprise for me. But I laughed my ass off in the first 6 or so episodes. Two boys keeping a sea monster as a pet and hiding it from parental units.... it has its humor side. I fear it might be slipping a bit but I'm still in for the time being.

As we know now, none.

pinata242 05-23-06 12:50 PM

I wonder how this same poll would turn out today.

Cusm 05-23-06 01:04 PM

My vote would be unchanged, although my #2 would have gone from Threshold to Surface.

Doug Heffernan 05-23-06 01:33 PM

It just too bad Invasion is gone - even if it hadn't premiered around the time of Katrina, people still would have gotten bored in the lackluster first 5 or so episodes.

Damn you Shaun Cassidey for starting this off so slowly!

cajun_junky 05-23-06 02:30 PM

I thought invasion was being picked up by someone else?

I agree. Threshold never did it for me. Invasion was always my favorite and I'm very sad to see it go. I think it was one of the finest network programs to come around in some time.

I say this much... I have no faith in the networks to stand behind their product. Invasion has been engaging from the get go, for me, even the dreaded first 5 slow episodes. ( I have a theory why slow doesn't work on US TV. The commercials are out of control. I was recently in the US and found it impossible to watch anything on TV. Even news was a chore)

Anyway, the network is throwing away a very good show. I do hope someone picks it up but I doubt it. Mark my words, I will never watch a network show in season 1 again. I'll wait and see if they have any faith in their product before making that mistake again.

Invasion over Lost.... anyday of the week.

Shame about Surface too, though I my interest was being to slip. THough, I would have stuck around for that one as well.

Threshold just had the wrong Idea. Was trying too hard to be CSI in the Twilight zone.

It's so sad that a show has to jump from the gates with all kinds of revelations and action to keep an audience returning. Those of us who stuck through it with Invasion were rewarded with some really good TV.
