My Name Is Earl -- Quit Smoking -- 9/27/2005

From NBC.com
Spoiler:
MY NAME IS EARL QUIT SMOKING 09-27-2005 9:00PM
SOMETIMES ALL YOU NEED IS A LITTLE PUSH - While continuing on his karmic quest Earl (Jason Lee) is faced with the dilemma as to what bad deed he should tackle next. To quite smoking is one option, but this turns out to be a bigger challenge than Earl originally anticipates. Randy (Ethan Suplee) and Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) see this as an opportunity to trick him into apologizing to Donny (guest star Silas Weir Mitchell), an intimidating former classmate. Five years prior, Earl robbed a donut shop while wearing Donny's football jersey and let him spend two years in prison for the crime he committed. Earl not only receives forgiveness from Donny, but at the same time kicks his smoking habit while pushing Donny's mom (guest star Kathryn Joosten) to give up the addiction too. Meanwhile, Earl's ex-wife Joy (Jaime Pressly) finds Earl's video will, which leaves everything to her, and attempts to kill him. Eddie Steeples also stars.

I really hope this is even funnier than the pilot and that people continue to tune in.

What happened to the funny?

Went from a comedy to a drama in one episode.

I wouldn't say it went drama on us, but it wasn't as funny an episode as the pilot. The cookies slayed me, though.

I thought it was pretty good. I'm enjoying this program much more than I had anticiipated.

Spoiler:
The scene where Earl's ex-wife tries to kill him via bow and arrow was pretty funny. I wasn't expecting such humor in this show...though it has been done many times in shows like THE SIMPSONS.

I thought it was good but not as strong as last weeks. The scenes with the brother and the cookie's and Earl getting beat with the bible were pretty good.

I thought it was very funny, and certainly not a drop off from the pilot. Maybe a laugh track would remind some people when to laugh?

I don't think there were as many laughs as in the first episode (which also didn't have a laugh track, thankyouverymuch), but the pacing is really what threw me more than anything. It seemed like the set-up was so slow that they had to rush through the part of the plot that matters (the redemption stuff).

Upon further reflection I think I liked it better than the series opener. It just seemed a bit sillier, which resulted in me laughing out loud more. This program has some definite potential.
