I absolutely agree that we should maximize the fun of the people playing the game, but I think the voters are a key ingredient there. We could just pick seasons now without a game, but what fun would that be?

I still like the idea of allowing two seasons per show. That would make more sense if we are supposed to "argue" for a particular season.

On the subject of seasons vs. shows, my problem is that I can't seem to get consensus on what people want. Right now, opinions seem to be equally divided amongst taking the following approaches:
* Pick Shows only
* Pick seasons, no restrictions
* Pick seasons, restricted to two
The current approach (Pick Seasons, restricted to one) is an attempt to compromise. As with most compromises, it seems it's made nobody happy.

The only thing that really concerns me about the seasons unrestricted approach is that it will result in a lot of well known, long running shows taking spots in the game. I really don't want to see five teams with this:
Seinfeld season X
Cheers season X
Friends season X
ER season X
L&O season X
Mary Tyler Moore season X
Sopranos season X
How do people vote on that when they keep seeing it?

I agree with that concern. I want to have 32 vastly different lineups.
Right now I'm leaning towards allowing 2 seasons per show, but only one per player.

I understand that some of you want to make it harder or more sophisticated, but Jimmy James said on this page is what it comes down to. Although shows do have better and worse seasons, there are some shows with many good seasons. How interesting would this be if half the shows (7x32=224) were duplicates or triplicates from one show. IMO that would make this thing as boring as possible. I'd like to know the final rules before playing as well, I'm not sure I'd play depending on what rules do get implemented.

And while I appreciate the difficulty of keeping people involved, I'm still in favor of more selections if possible.

I've got a crazy idea. When a network exec renews a show or greenlights a new show, he doesn't know what the quality of the season will ultimately be. How about we choose the show and then roll for a random season. The only problem with this is shows with only 1 season will have a big advantage.
With this idea you could limit only 1 choice for the whole tournament for shows that lasted 1-5 seasons. For shows that lasted 6-10 seasons, 2 people could choose and would be able to choose either first half or second half and shows with 11+ seasons would have 3 options of early, mid, and late in the series' run.

And we could choose the season from a weighted algorithm based on the numeric values of the letters in the particpant's username, his timezone, and his blood pressure at the time of selection ...

Changed the rules slightly, to allow two seasons of any show to be drafted, one per player. Unfortunately, there's no rule I can make on this that's going to appease everybody, so this seems like the best compromise.
So, the rules are pretty much set, unless there are further comments. I'll set up the actual draft tomorrow sometime.
