Thankfully with the 2-tuner directTivo and my limited TV interest it's rare for conflicts to come up. When they do I just pick the one I want to see the least out of the 3 and skip it.

My wife has actually suggested a dual-tuner pvr. However, we do not want something that requires a subscription. Right now, we have the panny E85, and I record stuff on my computer. She DOES have an older pinnacle TV card on her computer. Maybe I can rig it....

Wednesdays (Lost/E-Ring) and Thursdays (Alias/Smallville) are killer. Once Sci-Fi fridays go into reruns, that clears the way for Threshold and Numb3rs.

Some of these nets should consider a second weekend slot!

The few conflicts I have had with new shows involve NBC, and it seems they are having encores on their other channels such as Sci-fi and Bravo. If I needed it, I changed the season pass to those channels instead. Has anybody had to drop a show before it even started? Any problems? I guess this is sort of venting/advice/selection thread.

There's something called "timeshifting" in Canada. If you have a digital receiver, you are able to get sister Canadian stations from the Atlantic, Central and Western Canada which repeats the programs that you have a conflict with.

Here's the tentative rundown of my fall TV viewing (* = checking out, # = real time viewing, ^ = on probation):

There are 4 timeslots with 4-way log-jams, and 1 timeslot with a 5-way log-jam. Hopefully I will be able to cut out some shows that don't quite merit timeshifting by the end of October.

Most of the time I will skip the show I feel I can pick up again in reruns later if I really want too or ones that don't mater if you miss an ep here or there..

Then there is the really strange issue in the Sacramento area of ALL of CBS's prime time being on one hour early so they can push a 10pm news (their news sucks by the way). Sep it's ONLY the cable and local that are early, the HD feeds OTA (over the air) are at the normal prime time slot..

soooooooooooooooo throw in having two HDcards and being able to get all networks OTA, this one hour time shift for CBS and normal cable with out a CBS time shift, I can do some really strange ---you watch too much tv-- sort of juggles. Watching a 8pm show on CBS at 7pm but then recording the show after that at the "normal" time of 9 in HD even when it's on cable at 8 so I can watch some other.......... you get the idea.. it's really strange...

it also causes other issues like tonight.. With bones and Threshold both starting out here at 8pm even if Threshold should not really start til 9...

NC-36 09-16-05 08:31 PM

3 dual-tuner DirecTiVos
Locals (all 7 networks) + NY & LA ABC/NBC/CBS/Fox feeds

Hell, I set up 2 Season Passes each (1 east, 1 west) for most network shows just in case I get rain fade during the early run :D

coladar 09-16-05 09:12 PM

Before I went HD, the Tivo worked fine. Only on very rare occasions did I have a conflict. But since going HD three years ago, Usenet is the only way to go. More and more are high res HD rips being posted, and even the non HR-HD rips are still 16:9 rips from the HD and higher quality than SD.

Having FIOS makes it even sweeter... Five minutes or so to download an hour-long show. All that combined with a DVI cable from my computer to my HDTV makes for conflicts, schedules... Hell, I don't even know what night half the programs I watch are on anymore. :)

Jadzia 09-16-05 10:09 PM

Patman, as usual, our lists are quite similar. I have Direc*Tivo, so a 2-way conflict is no problem on my main TV. However, in the case of 3 or more conflicts, I have to record the show in the bedroom or basement which can mean a delay in watching it.

I'm going to have to purchase a VCR. I don't watch enough TV to purchase a Tivo.

There is only one show I want to watch weekly, and that is House. However, I just found out that the only other interesting show for me, My Name is Earl, is on at the same time. So, if that show is really good, I'll be buying a VCR, which I never thought I would own again.

Daniel-A 09-17-05 12:51 AM

My 2 major conflicts this season (Lost, Veronica Mars, E-Ring, and maybe Related/Criminal Minds) and (OC, Smallville, Alias, Survivor, Joey, and Everybody Hates Chris). No idea how I'm going to get around the Thursday conflict. Definitely will get 1 live, 1 on tape, may get to tape a second. But at best that is 3. I'm hoping a lot of show will have double airings throughout the season, not jsut for premiers.

Evil 09-17-05 08:25 PM

Only for REPLAYTV users, but I deal with my conflicts by using www.poopli.com

DJariya 09-17-05 08:35 PM

Here's another issue that some of you may encounter. Some shows are running 1-5 minutes longer than their actual time, which is creating conflicts with Tivo recording on 2 tuners.

For example, I can't record Bones on Tuesday because the Nip/Tuck (higher priority on my season pass) premiere is 92 minutes long (starts at 7pm for me on Directv) and my other tuner is already recording NCIS at 8pm.

I noticed Survivor ran 61 minutes, the OC is 61 minutes and I predict Lost will run an extra 2-5 minutes as well.

Nip/Tuck is a cable show that repeats several times a week, so I always put those at a lower priority than the network shows that only air once.

Daniel-A 09-18-05 12:53 AM

What does a DVR go for? Maybe I should invest in one if the season proceeds as is (3 or 4 hour-long timeslots with 4+ things I want to watch).

Exactly what I do. The only problem I have is that now I can't pad these network shows by a minute because then it moves to the next hour, and it may cancel another show.

Rypro 525 09-18-05 11:48 PM

just found out that season 2 repeats of veronica mars will air sunday at 7, so those with conflicts wed at 9, have another option. I wish other networks did this.

This is some excellent news. Rypro you cleared some good space off my conflict list. Where'd you hear this? I rememebr the WB used to rerun Everwood and something else at 5 and 6 on Sundays. Hopefully they will do it again.
