I'm going to keep collecting nominations until, say, midnight Eastern tonight, and then work up the brackets for the first round. I have to mix in the nominations here with the ones I got from friends and on another message board where I posted a similar thread.

Lots of good shows in here, and some mentioned in other places that weren't mentioned here. (One of my favorite shows would definitely be Moonlighting, I don't think anyone has nominated it here.)

Buffy & Angel

I would nominate more, because there are several show that I love (I own about 60 TV DVD Box sets. Many complete sets), but these two are my favorites. I consider them the 2 greatest things I've ever seen (as does my best friend after I got him hooked. ).

The Dick Van Dyke Show is awesome, but I find Seinfeld and Friends to be funnier.

It is like "I Love Lucy"... ive seen the show so many times that I just do not care to watch it anymore. I have probably seen Friends/Seinfeld even more (since sometimes Friends is on what 6 times a day) and never get tired of them.

I don't know what it is, but I find most old shows kind of annoying (especially sitcoms and extra especially, I Love Lucy). I loved them when I was a kid, but I've turned on them. Imo tv has gotten a lot better in the past 10 years or so.

Okay, folks. I've got to take my daughter to ballet this morning, but when I get back, I'll work up the brackets and open voting for round one. We had a lot more shows nominated than I expected (well over a hundred) so we might have a few more than 64 shows in and have a big play-in round.

I guess the question is whether we're picking best shows or favorite shows. If we're going for best, I Love Lucy has to be up there. Desi and Lucy invented the three camera sitcom, the rerun, and a host of other things we take for granted. Not only was I Love Lucy a brilliant show, but it was also one of the most groundbreaking and influential shows ever, if not the most.

Obviously if we're going for favorite that's a whole other thing.

For what it's worth, my nom's were based on best, not favorite. My list would have been substantially different in that case.

BTW, tasha99, I'm not really replying to you directly or trying to pick a fight. After reading this thread there is some confusion in my mind over how we're supposed to interpret "best", and your quote just helped me illustrate the question. Please don't take this as an attack!
