Plus they have more features.

I watched 4 eps. about 2 months ago, I need to get back into it, I set it aside to get through my Cheers, ER, & Lone Gunmen sets. Now I just picked up the Muppet Show and Undeclared, so it may sit a little while longer.

Do you ever find time to leave the house? I thought I watched a lot of TV.

Well I only work 7 minutes from home, so I can get through a 44 minute drama when I go home for lunch or 2 half hour comedies 5 days a week. That is when I watch most of them.

Figure 2 half hour comedies for 5 days is just under half a season.

I've been very slowly catching up on this series over the last few years. I'm near the end of season 3, but something that's really bothering me is the sound. I don't know how to describe it, but I've noticed the sound quality being really bad this season. It may have always been like this and I just didn't notice it before.

I taped a bunch of episodes off sci-fi and that's how I've seen most of the episodes. My library recently got all the dvds and I was surprised that the sound was just as bad on the dvds as on my tapes. Since I never see anybody else complain about it, I guess it could just be my setup, but I don't really have problems with other shows or dvds. Actually, I've noticed everything on CBS has sounded really bad the last couple months, but I thought it might just be my affiliate.

Oddly enough I've just started this show and Babylon 5 after hearing a lot of praise from this board. I ordered the first Starburst set, hasn't arrived yet, and I've caught the first four epsiodes of B5. I know that it eventually takes off on a larger arc, but it's kind of slow-going right now, albeit interesting enough to keep me watching.

you just have to drag yourself through the first season......there are a few good episodes in the second half.......but B5 didn't really get its hooks into me until the last episode of season 1.

did you watch "The Gathering" before seeing the first 4 episodes?

I just finished volume 4 of season 3. I watched the final episode on the computer and the sound didn't bother me as much, but it still wasn't right. It sounds like every character is speaking through a large tube. The voices are kind of echo-y and hollow.

I picked a bad episode to jump back on with. I think it's been a year since I watched an episode and Infinite Possibilities didn't do anything for me.

Spoiler:
I had forgotten about the 2 Crichtons. What episode did that happen in? Maybe I should go back and watch that episode again.

I didn't like Revenging Angel either, but The Choice and Fractures were much better. I do hate how they conveniently kill all the new characters in Fractures. I've never been bothered by the focus on Crichton, but I do wish they wouldn't be so afraid of dealing with a larger cast. I like that they do change up the cast throughout the series, but they always seem to get rid of characters before the cast gets too big.

The end of Fractures was good. This storyline has dragged on too long imo. I was about to say way too long, but I guess it hasn't been that bad. It's not unusual for TV shows to drag storylines out too long. I just feel that the show hasn't quite lived up to it's potential.

Looks like a thread similar to my Buffy threads.

I've been waiting for someone to so something like it with Farscape. Farscape is my all-time favorite TV show. I can't imagine anyone not being completely sucked into it, but too each their own. If you are worried about things, not changing, don't worry, something major happens in Season 2 that changes the show forever, & really until that happened, I wasn't too into the show. After that, Crichton become my favorite character by far.

Too bad you don't like Chiana, she is one of my favorites, & IMO a very unique TV character.

Sessa, What plot point (In spoilers of course) are you speaking of?

I was sucked into Farscape right away so I dont get all the critical comments but to each his own.

I'm pretty sure it is right in the middle or maybe near the beginning of Season 2 when
Spoiler:
Scorpious captures Crichton & thus the beginining of Crichton going mad
which changes the show forever. Really before that I thought the show was just good, not great, & Crichton was a decent lead, but a little bland, some of my least favorite eps are in the first season. After that the show is beyond brilliant IMO & Browder/Crichton is the main reason why, his acting is just phenomenal by far the best ever in any type of genre show IMO. I also think maybe my favorite ep of the entire series is in season 2, "Crackers Don't Matter", I may have the episode title wrong.

Now I know what it is like for the Buffy fans in my threads, b/c there is just so much about Farscape I love.

Spoiler:
The 2 Crichtons stems from the Season 3 ep "Eat Me" -- where the crew has to deal with an alien that has a rather disgusting-looking (and at times flawed) method of creating duplicates of people.

At least for me, the Season ending arc of Season 3 is one of my favorite parts of the entire series (pretty much kicking into gear after "Fractures"). A rare case of the pay-off being more than worthy of the build-up.

Chianna takes some time to grow on people -- I've heard this from a number of people when Chianna is first introduced. As viewers, we're not really sure what she's up to, or what kind of character she has in those early episodes. I think the creators of the show intended it that way -- for the viewers to feel the same unease and initial distrust that Crichton and his friends had. If the OP still feels that way down the road ... then that's a different story.

I had trouble getting into Crichton at first too. It's one of the things that turned me off the show early in the first season. He just seemed like a standard Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon clone. I'd seen enough sci-fi to have my fill of good-looking, wise-cracking heroes, especially one with a habit of continually throwing in 20th century Earth references to make jokes. Fortunately, the character evolved as the series went on, and Browder was able to show viewers a lot more as the character was put in different situations.

I've never noticed a problem with the sound, but my stepdad couldn't watch it because of the echo. I wonder if it's more noticable with certain types of hearing problems (he's got hearing aids in both ears). It ticks me off that my discs don't have English subtitles--I bought them individually and at the price they were, I think someone could have done some captions.

Maybe its your speakers? I know the disks sounded like crap when I played them on my computer, but whenever I watched them on my TV (and surround sound system) they sounded spectacular.

Maybe it's a bad case of downmixing the 5.1 audio track to stereo. The audio sounds fine on all my discs.

You're undoubtedly right, but once I got through the first season of Starbursts I had to get my hands on the older sets to finish the show and Peacekeeper Wars. Much more expensive, but the show was easily worth it to me.

For eps I particularly liked, I might double dip the Starburst for the extras.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I know I can hear certain things other people can't. For instance, my cable dvr constantly emits a high pitched noise that nobody else can hear and I can always hear when a tv or monitor are on.

Does the second season of Farscape get better? I blazed through the first season, and while I didn't love it, I enjoyed it. It seemed to be getting to something big in the last few episodes of the season, but season two seems to be regressing. It was the "crazy depressed Chiana" episode that really got to me... I watched half of it, turned it off, and didn't go back to it for a week.

The beginning of season 2 has some really bad episodes, but it ends up being fantastic by the end of season 2 imo.

Not one of my favorite episodes either. Like even the best shows, "Farscape" has some clunkers. It picks up once they get back to multi-part stories, and ongoing plots (some of which will impact the next couple seasons of the show) -- specifically, I would say things pick up at the "Look at the Princess" arc.

Well I cant say I agree with the "majority" here that it gets better every season but the costs for all these dvds was worth it just for S1 and S2.
Spoiler:
The show started to feeling like it was missing something for me a few eps into Season Three. I guess I didnt realize just how much I enjoyed Zhaan, she provided such a delicate balance to the show. Splitting the team in two ships was not working afterwhile and it was quite obvious to me what they planned to do with two Crichton arc. Jool was interesting replacement but they never delved into her character and all her education much, it was just that annoying bitchering with Chi all time. Since they had two ship background stages we didnt see them adventuring to new planets as much. I did notice a big increase in the gore factor and attempting to try to make complicated speices. Alot times though I just busted out laughing. Like that monkey race that held up the eattery was laughably bad. By this time scorpius talking in Crichton's head was also beyond annoying. The Season 3 cliffhanger was interesting and intense but after watching first two eps of Season Four last night it seems like its still declining. They show Crichton with a wacked out beard but make no mention of just how much time has passed since the end of the intense Season Three events. Then they introduce Sikozu but they talk so convulutedly fast and vague I had no idea why she was there beyond something to do with ship fluids nor why she was being chased really. Then suddenly Rygel(who mysterious is now different color) and Chi are back, somehow knowing exactly where Crichton has been all this time, just in the nick of time for an action sequence. Crichton slapping his ass until the creature fell out of the invisible port hole didnt work for me either. Then I started second episode of Season Four and witnessed one of the most confusing and retarded things I ever seen a tv show do, they showed recaps to something that we had never seen!? So I stopped the disc, wasted an hour online to learn that my dvds were not are out of order. I'm still enjoying Farscape but I surely cant say the show steady improved each season.

I think the general consensus (even amongt FS faithful) was that the first half of S4 was out of left field, but at the half way point (4.11 Unrealized Reality to be exact) the season takes off. Bad Timing nearly had me crying like a little bitch.

That is good to know I already seem abig improvement on what I watched last night, I Shrink Therefore I Am and Prefect Murder. I enjoyed them and character bonding.
